Flooding debris cleared from Shoal Creek bridge crossing

JOPLIN, Mo. — The City of Joplin removed several truckloads of debris damming Shoal Creek. Tuesday (4/22), Joplin Public Works employees were able to safely get heavy equipment on the Low Water Bridge crossing on Shoal Creek. Flooding over the weekend swept large branches and tree debris into Shoal Creek, which began to collect and create a dam at the Low Water Bridge crossing in McIndoe Park. On Easter Sunday (4/20), water flooded the bridge and overflowed its banks by several feet. Flood waters receded Tuesday morning, allowing Joplin Public Works crews to cross Low Water Bridge and remove all the debris. Joplin Public Works cleared debris and inspected infrastructure at other low-water crossings across the city. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
