'Why change a winning team?': Orlando Pirates legend rants at technical team
Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has slammed his former team following their shock 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United on Saturday. Playing in front of a packed Orlando Stadium, the Sea Robbers failed to find the back of the net in their first Betway Premiership match of the season. Despite their 2-0 win against Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-finals, Pirates looked sluggish a week later against an organised Sekhukhune side. Speaking on the Soccer Beat podcast, Josephs felt Orlando Pirates players took the match for granted after their impressive MTN8 quarter-final win. 'Everyone was looking forward to this season, looking at how last weekend's game went but we have to be constructive as well,' he said. 'This team looks like a team that got results last weekend and thought to themselves, 'I just need to be on the pitch, and the results will take care of themselves. ' 'That will not happen; we never looked like we were going to hurt them. This is Orlando Pirates, we must know that the team that faces us will want to beat us; they will be more motivated. 'We came up against a team that has structure. Eric (Tinkler) structured that team and we can't break them down; we don't have plan A or B.' We have all the ammunition to break them down, but we are using them in the wrong areas. We have to go back to the basics, simple as that,' Josephs said in a rant. The double treble winner questioned Orlando Pirates coach's decision to experiment during the first match of the season. 'Listen, these results hurt because we spoke last season about what we need to do to stay up there. We need to start well, we need to start on the right foot. 'Time for experimentation is gone; hence, you had the pre-season. My disappointment as well comes from the technical team, because why didn't we carry on with the team that did well last season? because they know exactly what is expected; the tempo, the pressure and then slowly introduce these new players,' said the Orlando Pirates legend. Orlando Pirates face backlash over Mbuthuma signing
Orlando Pirates have come under fire from former goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, who has openly criticised the club's reported signing of Richards Bay FC striker Yanela Mbuthuma. The 23-year-old forward has reportedly completed a move to the Soweto giants despite recently inking a fresh five-year deal with the Natal Rich Boyz, a deal signed just four weeks ago. Mbuthuma had also attracted interest from Pirates' fierce rivals Kaizer Chiefs. But if reports of the move are accurate, the Buccaneers would have had to pay a hefty transfer fee to secure his signature. However, Josephs doesn't believe Mbuthuma fits the profile Pirates should be chasing. He believes the club should focus on recruiting from the league's top-performing teams. 'Why are we looking for players from clubs that are not above the top eight [small teams]? No offence to the player that we have signed,' Josephs said on SoccerBeat . 'Look at how many goals he scored last season: he scored six goals in 27 games. However, no offence to him, but how many games did he start? So, that's like one goal every six games, pardon me if my math is off.' 'But my mind is telling me that we should be looking at the big boys [from big clubs]. We should look inside the top eight teams because outside of the top eight, there's nothing.' In contrast, Josephs had nothing but praise for Pirates' acquisition of AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi. The 24-year-old, who officially joined the Buccaneers two days ago, impressed for Usuthu last season with four goals and seven assists in 31 appearances. Josephs applauded Moremi's attitude, hunger and potential to thrive at a big club. 'Yes, I like Tshepang Moremi. He looks the part and is hungry. That boy looks like he wants to do something and achieve things, you know,' said Josephs. 'So, he is not someone who is going to be happy with getting two pairs of Adidas tracksuits and one pair of sneakers and going to the mall.' Is Mbuthuma a good Orlando Pirates signing? Moeneeb Josephs criticises Orlando Pirates players for lack of loyalty in joining Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs, meanwhile, finished their second successive season outside the top eight as they ended their campaign in ninth. Pirates finished last season in second position, as Mamelodi Sundowns won their eighth league title in a row as they were crowned Betway Premiership champions. Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako both had their contracts run out at Pirates, and have reportedly made the move down the road Naturena. Josephs Criticises Lack of Loyalty and Ambition in Modern Football 'The boys these days go where there's money. I wanted to make a video the other day and say thanks to the boys for everything, but I saw where they went [Chiefs],' Josephs said on Soccer Beat. 'I mean, these boys don't have ambitions after crossing the road like that. The team on the yellow side will be posting our players. There's no loyalty in this game anymore and pride for the badge anymore.' Earlier on Monday, Pirates also made the shock announcement that they had appointed Abdeslam Ouaddou as the new head coach of the club. Speculation had been rife as to who would take over the coaching role after José Riveiro did not renew his contract at the end of last season. Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena had been widely tipped for the position. Having played from 1999 to 2013 as a centre-back, the Moroccan took up his first coaching role in January last year when he was appointed AS Vita head coach. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport

'These boys lacks ambitions': Pirates legend slams departed stars
Orlando Pirates legend Moeneb Josephs has criticised the former Bucs duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. The Buccaneers released the two players a few weeks ago, and both have been linked with Soweto's rivals, the Kaizer Chiefs. Mako spent six seasons with the Buccaneers, earning over 100 caps and winning six trophies. Speaking to Lebohang Mokoena on Soccer Beat , ex-Pirates goalkeeper felt players these days chase money and lack loyalty. 'The boys these days go where there's money,' Josephs said. 'I wanted to make a video the other day and say thanks to the boys for everything, but I saw where they went [Chiefs]. 'I mean, these boys don't have ambitions after crossing the road like that. The team on the yellow side will be posting our players. There's no loyalty in this game anymore and pride for the badge anymore,' said the Pirates legend. With the Buccaneers set to start their pre-season in the coming days, there's still no word on who the club have appointed as their new coach. Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena is reportedly the favourite for the job. Josephs, however, has made his feelings known about the club potentially bringing back Mokwena. He said the Soweto-born coach caused friction in the team during his short tenure as coach in 2019. Rulani is a free agent after parting ways with Wydad Casablanca. According to reports, the 38-year-old coach is in talks with the Pirates management.
