Metro surpasses 50k ridership in 3 days

Indore: Indore's newly inaugurated Metro Train became an instant sensation, running 'overloaded' with thousands of enthusiastic citizens flocking to stations for a 'joy ride' on the city's latest mode of transportation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In just three days since its launch, the Metro comfortably surpassed the 50,000 ridership mark, a clear indication of the overwhelming public excitement. However, the current surge in ridership is expected to see a considerable drop after June 7, when the initial 'Joy Ride' period, offering free rides, comes to an end. Despite recording over 15,000 daily ridership between 8am and 8 pm, a significant number of travellers are eagerly awaiting the extension of the Metro. Currently, the Metro operates on an approximately 6 km-long 'Super Priority Corridor' on the Super Corridor. However, citizens are keen for its expansion to the approximately 17.5 km-long 'Priority Corridor' that will reach Radisson Square. Many believe this extended route will provide a "suitable" transportation option due to the comfort, hassle-free nature, economical fares, and its pollution-free, eco-friendly ride. Among the hundreds of passengers enjoying the Metro's maiden run were employees of a major IT company located on the Super Corridor. "I reside near Bapat Square and currently commute to the office on my bike," shared Rajat Sharma, an IT professional. He expressed his eagerness for the Metro's extension, hoping for an economical, weather-proof, and comfortable ride directly between his colony and the IT company's entrance. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sharma's colleague, Akshita, who lives near Chandragupta Maurya (MR-10) Square, highlighted her daily commute challenges. "The bus service recently stopped, and now every day, I have to somehow manage to reach the office," she told a local daily. "However, this will not be the case once the Super Priority Corridor of the Metro is commercially operational and extended." Madhu Mishra, an MBA student who also works part-time in Vijay Nagar, echoed the sentiment for a longer commercial run. "Apart from offering all these facilities and comfort, the Metro Train's fare is very reasonable," she added, emphasising the affordability of the new transport system. The initial overwhelming response clearly indicates Indoreans' readiness for a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transportation system. The true test and sustained success of the Indore Metro, however, will likely hinge on the timely completion of its extended corridors, promising a more comprehensive and impactful service for the city's commuters. Talk of The Town Overwhelming Enthusiasm: Despite light to moderate rains, thousands, including families, friends, and groups of children, flocked to the Indore Metro for its "Joy Ride," showcasing immense public excitement. Safety Measures & Awareness: While some excited passengers, mostly children, were seen pushing panic buttons, hanging on handlebars, or not maintaining distance from doors, security guards promptly educated them on rules and regulations, including penalties for violations. MPMRCL PRO Himanshu Grover stated no formal violations were registered, adding that over 150 security guards and extensive CCTV coverage ensure close monitoring. Big List of Do's, Don'ts and Violations with Penalties: MPMRCL issued a guideline for the passengers, which are pasted on all the stations and inside the Metro Train, to follow. Besides, information is also available to the public about the violations that can lead to penalties, imprisonment, or both. Free Rides Drive Initial Ridership: Many families and friends joined the "Joy Ride" due to the free travel offer. However, working professionals anticipate a significant drop in ridership once ticketing begins. Reasonable Fare Structure: Travellers have generally found the Metro's fare structure to be reasonable. For the current 5-station 'Super Priority Corridor' (Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor-03), fares range from Rs 20 to Rs 30. The broader Yellow Line, eventually covering 28 stations, will have fare slabs from Rs 20 to Rs 80, depending on travel zones. Promotional Discounts: To encourage public adoption, MPMRCL launched a three-month promotional discount scheme: free QR tickets until June 7, followed by 75% off in the second week, 50% in the third week, and 25% off up to the third month. Impressive Initial Ridership: MPMRCL officials reported approximately 26,000 passengers on the first day, and around 16,000 each on Monday and Tuesday, highlighting the strong initial public interest. |

10 loco-pilots run the show

Indore: The newly operational Indore Metro, currently offering "Joy Rides" on its 6 km-long 'Super Priority Corridor,' boasts a fleet of 14 trains, each comprising three coaches. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Of these, four trains are presently in commercial operation, guided by a team of 10 skilled loco-pilots. Senior officials confirmed that all loco-pilots underwent a rigorous training programme of at least six months before being engaged in trials and subsequently the commercial run. The training for all loco-pilots is ongoing in Indore. Currently, these pilots primarily manage four key controls: emergency braking, speeding, opening/closing doors, and pressing horns. Importantly, these controls are also mirrored in the central control room, which maintains close monitoring of every aspect of the Metro's operation, route, train movement, and passenger activity. Senior officials highlighted that the modern Indore Metro Train is equipped with advanced features, including the capability for driverless operation. However, unlike a section of the Delhi Metro that currently operates autonomously, MPMRCL has no immediate plans to transition to this mode in the near future. During ongoing 'Joy Ride', a total four trains have been roped in for operation. The number of loco-pilots will gradually be increased in Indore, which is slated to receive a total of 75 metro coaches, eventually forming 25 trains, each with three coaches.

Henry Golding Explained How 'Things Are In Motion' With New Crazy Rich Asians Sequel, And I Hope His Dream About Jon M. Chu Comes True

However, something that made millions of film fans light up in 2018 was one of the best romantic comedies, Crazy Rich Asians. Word about a sequel to the ever-popular movie began nearly as soon as the rom-com took over the box office, but work on the project has stalled several times. Now, star Henry Golding has noted that 'things are in motion' with the sequel, and I hope his wish for Jon M. Chu comes true. For many (many) months after Crazy Rich Asians (which stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, and Michelle Yeoh among many others) debuted and became the biggest rom-com in almost a decade, all people could talk about was China Rich Girlfriend. Based on the second book in Kevin Kwan's novel series, the proposed big-screen follow-up was announced mere days after the first movie hit theaters, but getting concrete details settled on the who, when, where, why and how of the movie has been a long time coming. While speaking with E! News recently, though, Another Simple Favor star Henry Golding was asked about progress on the highly anticipated film, and said: They're just getting Adele Lim, [who's] helming. She's a showrunner, she was one of the writers on the first one with Peter Chiarelli. But, she came over to London, maybe about four weeks ago to see me and Gemma to talk about our characters. So things are happening, you know? Things are, like, in motion. WOW. This is really good news, but, man. I feel like we've heard this before. When China Rich Girlfriend was announced, it was noted that Chiarelli and Lim were back on board to co-write, with the director of the original film, Jon M. Chu, set to return to his position, as well. Unfortunately, it was roughly a year later that word of an unequal pay dispute led to Lim leaving the movie (which Chu supported). The production then searched for another writer of Asian heritage, but eventually circled back to Lim, though she turned them down again, and late March 2022 saw Amy Wang set to pen the story. Golding didn't confirm whether or not the script is still being handled by Wang, but Lim (who previously directed one of 2023's funniest movies, Joy Ride, and is set to direct Princess Diaries 3) appears to be on board to direct. And, that leaves us wondering about the involvement of Jon M. Chu. As Golding noted, Chu and Lim are actually both currently working on a Crazy Rich Asians series for Max, with Lim as showrunner and both executive producing. But, the In the Heights director is not, apparently, currently on board to play any part in the production of the film sequel. After noting that Nina Jacobson (who's also exec producing the TV show) has returned to help produce the new movie, Golding added: Who knows? If we can lock down Jon Chu somewhere there; he's a billion dollar man at the moment. Oh my god. That guy! But, you know, we're trying to get back the team as much as possible. Honestly, with Chu helping out on the show, I doubt that he wouldn't take some part in helping to get the sequel off of the ground, finally. It makes sense that he wouldn't have a lot of time to devote to directing the movie, as his blockbuster success with Wicked last year will be followed up by Wicked: For Good, which is set to hit the 2025 movie schedule on November 21. So, let's all hope that as he's prepping that musical for theaters, he has some spare time to contribute his particular brand of movie-making magic to the Crazy Rich Asians sequel!

After Having A Blast With One Of Them Days, I Need To Talk About 5 Other Female Buddy Comedies That Deserve More Love

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. What 2025 movies will we be talking about this year? As we're just a few weeks into January, it's too early to tell, but I was so pleased with my first trip to the movie theater in the new year. I went to see One Of Them Days, and had so much fun with the Keke Palmer and SZA pairing. As my One Of Them Days review notes, it's a blast of a buddy comedy about two women who have to wander around their neighborhood in Los Angeles to make their rent money in a matter of a handful of hours. Along with other critics loving it too, I'm so happy it won the box office during its opening weekend, because I've seen too many movies in the subgenre go unnoticed in recent years. Keke Palmer and SZA (along with executive producer Issa Rae and writer Syreeta Singleton) absolutely deserve this moment of being one of the few female-driven comedies to break into the mainstream and make bank during its theatrical release. It's genuinely such a fun time, and I know I missed laughing out loud in a theater with strangers. In honor of its release, I want to highlight five other female buddy comedies that have come out in recent years that I don't think had the same buzz. One movie that made it high on our list of best comedies of 2023 is Adele Lim's Joy Ride. When it came out the summer of 2023, I found it to be such a hilarious movie with an ensemble cast. Starring Broadway's Ashley Park, Everything Everywhere All At Once's Stephanie Hsu and newcomers Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu, the movie follows Park's Audrey and her best friend Lolo as they travel to China to meet her birth family (she's adopted) for the first time and close a business deal all at once. However, during the trip things go very awry, and so raunchy that a K-pop version of 'WAP' is involved. While it's very R-rated, it also includes a refreshing take on female friendship. CinemaBlend even gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars in our Joy Ride review. However, it totally bombed at the box office, making $15 million worldwide. It's time to give it some love! Stream Joy Ride on STARZ. Rent/Buy Joy Ride on Amazon. If you're a fan of SNL, chances are you're also a fan of Kristen Wiig, and her comedic shenanigans. The comic co-wrote and starred in a movie called Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar that is right up her alley of hilarity. It has Wiig and her co-writer/star Annie Mumolo playing middle-aged best friends who leave their home in Nebraska for a vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida. Wiig pulls double duty as a ridiculous but very funny villain named Sharon Fisherman, who has a vendetta against Vista Del Mar, who sends her agent Edgar (played by Fifty Shades of Grey's Jamie Dornan) to assist her in her master plan. Barb and Star then get caught up in Sharon and Edgar's plot amidst their holiday, and it's just tons of goofy fun. The reason why a lot of people likely missed out on it is because it's one of those movies that came out at the wrong time. The comedy was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then released on premium VOD in early 2021. Stream Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar on Hulu. Stream Barb & Star for free on Tubi. Rent/Buy Barb & Star on Amazon. Another solid female buddy comedy that has come out in the last few years that I loved was Max's Unpregnant. The movie is specifically a road trip comedy starring The White Lotus' Haley Lu Richardson as Veronica and Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira as Bailey. The movie is about a teen whose life-plans get sidetracked when she gets pregnant and can't get an abortion in her state of Missouri. So, Veronica and her former best friend Bailey drive to the closest clinic, all the way in New Mexico to get the procedure done. Even though this movie came out five years ago at this point, I still think about it every so often for the on point chemistry and fun between its leads and the important social commentary it has on abortion access in the U.S. Its writer/director Rachel Lee Goldenberg had her own experience with abortion and the topic is handled with honesty and care. The movie came out exclusively for Max in 2020, so I think it just wasn't on a lot of people's radars. Stream Unpregnant on Max. In a similar vein to Unpregnant, I'd also recommend checking out Hulu's Plan B. This is also a coming-of-age comedy about two women navigating the troubling waters of contraception access in the U.S. In this movie, helmed by actress Natalie Morales, two teenaged friends, a sheltered Indian teen unexpectedly loses her virginity at a party her more outgoing friend Lupe has pressured her to throw while her parents are out of town. When she realizes the condom they used might not have been effective, they rush to find a Plan B pill. However, the closest they will be able to track down is in another city in South Dakota. The leads in this, Kuhoo Verma and Victoria Moroles, are not well-known actresses, but they absolutely crush in this very funny buddy comedy. As a streaming release, we truly have no idea if this has been watched a lot or not, but considering I don't often hear it mentioned, it deserves a place on this list as well. Stream Plan B on Hulu. Last but not least, is a comedy that came out last year, but also seemed to slip through the cracks. As a huge fan of Broad City, I was so excited to see Ilana Glazer in Babes and it does not disappoint. While the last two buddy comedies on this list were about two women trying not to be pregnant, this one is about a single woman who decides to have her baby after having a whirlwind one night stand. I appreciated Babes, not only for its blast of a pairing with Glazer and Michelle Buteau, but because of the honest conversations underneath about what happens during pregnancy (from a hilarious woman's perspective – Glazer wrote it after getting pregnant herself) along with it really honing in on the complicated friendship between its two leads. But, Babes also sadly bombed at the box office, with a haul of just $3.9 million. Stream Babes on Babes on Amazon. I'm so happy to see a lot more female-driven buddy comedies in recent years – including the likes of more mainstream buddy comedies like Booksmart, Do Revenge and Bottoms, which are also amazing! In honor of One Of Them Days showing these comedies have a theatrical audience, I can't wait for Hollywood to make more of these movies. If you want to see more of these types of stories like I do, go out of your way to watch them in theaters or right when they hit streaming.
