What You Need to Know About the Latest Range Rover Recall

Jaguar Land Rover has announced a major Range Rover recall involving more than 21,000 units of the Evoque model in the United States. The recall addresses a potentially dangerous defect in the front passenger airbag, which may rupture during deployment—posing a serious safety risk to occupants. Why This Range Rover Recall Matters According to technical investigations, the issue stems from improper folding of the airbag during production. This manufacturing flaw, traced back to supplier Joyson Safety Systems, leads to uneven pressure inside the airbag and increases the risk of it tearing during inflation. If this occurs, extremely hot gases may escape into the cabin, potentially causing burns or serious injuries to passengers. The Range Rover recall covers Evoque models manufactured between 2021 and 2025. Although the action currently applies to the U.S. market, Jaguar Land Rover has indicated that global markets could be affected depending on local distributor findings. Immediate Action and Customer Support The company has begun informing affected customers and will start issuing formal notifications in August 2025. As part of the Range Rover recall response, authorized dealerships will replace the defective airbag units free of charge. No injuries or incidents have been reported yet, but Jaguar Land Rover is taking precautionary measures to uphold safety standards. Reputation and Responsibility This Range Rover recall highlights a key challenge for luxury automakers: maintaining safety and reliability alongside premium design. The Evoque, known for its upscale styling and urban appeal, now faces scrutiny over a fundamental safety component. However, the company's quick response is being interpreted as an attempt to safeguard both consumer trust and brand integrity—especially in a competitive market where rivals continue to raise quality benchmarks. A Broader Lesson on Vehicle Safety This incident serves as a reminder that even luxury vehicles are not immune to technical faults. Similar airbag issues have affected multiple automakers in recent years, most notably the global Takata crisis. The current Range Rover recall reinforces the need for rigorous quality control and timely corrective action. Owners of affected Evoque models are encouraged to check their vehicle identification number (VIN) and contact their local dealership promptly. Jaguar Land Rover's handling of this situation will be key in reassuring customers and reinforcing its commitment to safety.

Another car giant issues urgent recall for thousands of vehicles over airbag concerns

Jaguar Land Rover has recalled nearly 21,000 vehicles across the United States due to a potentially dangerous defect in the front passenger airbag. The issue could have devastating consequences in a crash, as it could tear open and fail to protect occupants. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed the defect on Saturday, warning that faulty airbags could increase the risk of serious injury. In some cases, the torn airbag could also leak hot gas, raising the chance of burns. It marks the second time in a week that a major car manufacturer has recalled vehicles. Last week, Ford issued a warning over fears its engines could stall. A total of 20,999 Range Rover Evoque SUVs, spanning model years 2021 through 2025, are impacted. The vehicles were built between July 10, 2020, and October 7, 2024, at the company's Halewood plant in the UK. Although no injuries or crashes have been reported so far, the British car giant is urging owners to book into dealers for a free fix. The fault was first flagged in May 2023 when abnormal airbag deployments were reported during testing. A months-long investigation revealed inconsistencies in how airbags were folded during assembly, causing the cushion to tear during inflation. JLR officially confirmed the safety issue on June 30 and submitted documents to NHTSA shortly after. Affected airbags were manufactured by Joyson Safety Systems Hungary, a key global supplier. Dealers will replace the airbag module free of charge. Retailers will be notified by July 21, with letters being sent to owners from August 29. Customers who have already paid for repairs may be eligible for reimbursement. Owners can check whether their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN on the NHTSA recall website or via JLR's official portal. This is the second time in recent weeks that Jaguar Land Rover has faced scrutiny in the US. In late June, NHTSA launched a separate investigation into more than 90,000 vehicles over steering knuckle failures that could lead to wheel separation. Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement: 'We are committed to the highest safety standards. All affected customers will be contacted, and repairs will be carried out at no cost.'

The Latest Ford Bronco's Airbags Could Hit Too Hard

Ford Bronco Facing Airbag Recall The 2025 Ford Bronco has just been recalled, and unfortunately, it's for a physical fault that could reduce safety. According to recall documents filed with the NHTSA, 'the active vent flap on the passenger side may prevent the airbag from deploying as intended.' This recall covers 2,272 Broncos, and while it's not good news, owners can at least take comfort in the knowledge that this isn't nearly as serious as the Takata airbag fault that continues to plague numerous unrecalled vehicles from manufacturers around the world, and this air bag is made by a completely different company. 0:07 / 0:09 Audi A5 replaces A4: So, what's changed? Watch More The Airbag May Not Cushion Impacts Properly Source: Ford The NHTSA says that if the active vent flap of the passenger airbag doesn't open during a crash, 'the internal cushion pressure will not decrease as rapidly as designed, resulting in a higher-pressure cushion interacting with an occupant.' In other words, the component meant to safely prevent an occupant's head from hitting the dashboard could well injure them instead. The problem was discovered during routine testing by Michigan-based airbag supplier Joyson Safety Systems, which flagged the issue with Ford. Problems with testing led the supplier to a plastic flange holding the micro gas generator responsible for inflating the airbag in place. This flange may break when the airbag is activated, and this may interfere with the active vent flap. Over A Quarter Of Broncos Are Affected Source: Ford Of the 2,272 Broncos impacted by this recall, only 28% are expected to have the fault. Ford will begin sending interim notification letters on June 28. A second will be sent when the remedy is ready to be installed, but Ford has not provided an estimated timeline for when this will happen. Once the new parts are available, dealers will replace the airbag module at no cost to owners. As we've noted before, Ford has been working hard to overcome quality control issues, and there's still plenty to improve on, but at least this time, it doesn't appear to be something that Ford missed under its own roof. Happily, no warranty claims or customer complaints have been lodged, so the issue hasn't caused any serious damage yet. About the Author Sebastian Cenizo View Profile
