My friends are all fit, they have abs and are completely chiselled. But they eat way more than me so I want to do that. " Kush and his love for food has been a love tale be it onscreen or offscreen. TMKOC's Kush Shah criticizes 'body positivity' movement; shares his personal struggle with being overweight

Kush Shah , popularly known for playing the beloved character Goli on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), recently opened up about his departure from the show and his thoughts on personal health during a candid podcast appearance on Just Kidding with Sid. Shah spent 16 years on TMKOC , a sitcom that has become one of India's longest-running and most-watched television shows. Reflecting on his time there, Shah shared that the exit was far from easy. He compared leaving the show to ending a meaningful relationship, saying it felt like "breaking up on good terms." Though he never experienced a romantic breakup, he admitted to crying and feeling actual physical pain in his heart when he made the decision. TMKOC, which premiered in 2008 and is now a part of Indian pop culture history, had been more than just a job for him — it was, in his words, his 'first love.' Despite being overweight himself, he expressed strong opposition to the idea of accepting one's body at the cost of health. 'I don't believe in body positivity,' he stated clearly. He explained that if a medical professional advises someone to lose weight due to serious health risks, ignoring that advice in favor of body positivity is dangerous. Shah believes that lifestyle and physical well-being must take precedence over self-acceptance narratives when health is at risk. He recalled his own struggles with weight, noting how his breathing pattern had changed due to being overweight. He also admitted that he hasn't been able to clearly identify his own facial features, saying, 'Main patla hounga toh pata chalega, main kaisa dikhta hoon.' TMKOC: A Cultural Landmark TMKOC, based on Tarak Mehta's Gujarati column Duniya Ne Undha Chashma, has remained a staple of Indian television for more than a decade. The sitcom, produced by Asit Kumarr Modi, has seen remarkable milestones — completing 1000 episodes in 2012, 2000 in 2016, 3000 in 2020, and crossing 4000 episodes in 2024. Over time, it has not only entertained millions but also contributed to national campaigns like Clean India, and was once used as a case study by the Mudra Institute of Communications in Ahmedabad. For Shah, being part of a show with such legacy has been a defining chapter of his life. But now, as he moves on, he seems focused on personal growth — emotionally and physically.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's Kush Shah aka Goli calls shooting with Shah Rukh Khan as his favorite memory; recalls 'We Watched a KKR match in his Vanity, he ordered Idli at 4 AM'

Kush Shah , best known for playing Goli, the son of Dr. Haathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah , stepped away from the show last year to pursue higher studies in the USA. His departure was an emotional one, with his co-stars getting teary-eyed on his final day of shooting. Recently, during an appearance on the Just Kidding with Sid podcast, Kush reminisced about one of his favorite behind-the-scenes moments from the show. He fondly recalled Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan 's visit to the set and shared some delightful anecdotes from the experience. Recalling SRK's appearance on TMKOC to promote Happy New Year , Kush shared, "There have been many favourite moments. But one that has been most memorable was working with SRK. I have been lucky to have worked with Shah Rukh Khan. I have been with him thrice and I've worked with other stars also when they visited our show. Shah Rukh was on our set for 12 hours and I'm not kidding. Koi nahi raha itna 12 ghanta, he was on the set. Around 4 am we all were very hungry and Shah Rukh ordered idli from a random Anna. He sent his driver to get idli from local Anna. We sat together and idli and vada. That was my best and crazy memory." He further revealed how they watched KRK's IPL match in Shah Rukh's vanity, "In fact, we sat in his vanity van and watched the KKR match toh ye amazing cheez hai na yaar. I mean who does this. Nothing beats that. The experience was amazing, he came on the show for Happy New Year, Chennai Express and Dilwale. Mazee aagaye." Kush, who quit the show last year after working for 16 years, shared he was never affected by Bollywood celebrities' stardom but he was in awe of SRK's aura. He went on to praise the Jawan actor for his dedication, he revealed, "Whenever celebrities came on the show, I used to have a blast because I was never starstruck. I used to always feel okay, fine they are actors and I never cared. But SRK's aura was very different. He is so diligent at what he does. He knows his lines, your lines and everything that is going to happen in the script. 30 page ki script hai unko ratta hai (he would memorise the entire script). It was a great experience."
