Kerala govt launches technology advancement programme for women farmers through Kudumbashree

Kochi: State is set to launch Kudumbashree Technology Advancement Programme (K-TAP), aimed at modernizing agricultural sector and providing sustainable income for women farmers. State-level inauguration of the project will be done by LSGD minister M B Rajesh on Monday morning as part of technology conclave organized in Kakkanad. The conclave is held to exchange technologies and sign memorandums of understanding with institutions partnered with Kudumbashree and to explain the project. In collaboration with renowned agricultural technology research institutions in India, Kudumbashree acquired over 180 technologies related to the project. Kudumbashree aims to make significant progress in this field through production of value-added products using modern technology. Farmers will have access to technologies necessary for increasing agricultural production. New technologies will be utilized to manufacture various value-added products meeting export quality standards. Certifications and food safety standards necessary for marketing Kudumbashree agricultural products in national and international markets will be ensured through the project. Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas will preside over the event. Representatives from several renowned agricultural technology research institutions in India will participate in the conclave. Kudumbashree executive director H Dineshan will deliver the welcome address. Kudumbashree programme officer S Shanavas will explain the project details.

Kudumbashree signs MoU with ICAR-CTCRI on tuber crop cultivation

Thiruvananthapuram: Kudumbashree and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Central Tuber Crops Research Institute ( ICAR-CTCRI ) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide 12 advanced technologies in tuber crop cultivation . The agreement was signed by Kudumbashree executive director H Dineshan and ICAR-CTCRI director G Baiju at a ceremony held at Central Tuber Crops Research Institute in Sreekariyam. This is the first agreement under the Kudumbashree technology advancement programme (K-TAP), designed to guide thousands of neighbourhood group members engaged in agriculture towards modern scientific farming methods and sustainable income. Under this agreement, Kudumbashree will receive 12 technologies focused on value addition and food processing of tuber crops, including techniques for making cookies, kulfi, muffins, snacks, pasta and jelly using cassava and sweet potatoes. In the coming weeks, Kudumbashree aims to acquire additional technologies from seven other leading agricultural research institutions in India, creating a repository of 180 technologies to launch products by Onam. Dineshan said that selected neighbourhood group members will soon receive training in these technologies. There are also producer groups, agricultural enterprises and farmer producer companies. The K-TAP technology repository will be utilised to strengthen the livelihoods of these women farmers. The technologies will be used for processing agricultural products, value addition of millets, organic production methods, smart farming, eco-friendly packaging, branding and licensing, leading to the expansion and increased income of existing enterprises.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 4.3 lakh women farmers part of Kudumbashree farmer groups in the state are set to embrace modern farming technologies thanks to the Kudumbashree Technology Advancement Programme (K-TAP). The initiative aims to provide better employment opportunities to women by using innovative technologies in agriculture and allied sectors. The programme will also help improve production, value-added product manufacturing, processing and marketing, and achieving progress in all areas of agriculture. For this, a centralised technology repository, with over 180 new technologies, has been prepared in collaboration with renowned agricultural technology research institutes in the country. 'This is the first time that Kudumbashree has acquired so many technologies for modernisation of the agricultural sector and empowerment of women farmers. The new project will change the face of agricultural activities currently being implemented through Kudumbashree,' said an official. Currently, around 4.3 lakh women are cultivating rice, banana, various vegetables and fruits in 92,442 farmer groups under the Kudumbashree across the state. In addition, producer groups, agricultural enterprises, farmer producer companies and integrated farming clusters are also functioning. Kudumbashree will provide assistance to those working in the agricultural sector to strengthen their livelihood activities through the new technology bank. Entrepreneurs currently doing good agriculture and related businesses have been identified for the same. They will be trained in collaboration with leading agricultural research and technology institutions in the country, paving the way for them to increase their income. A big leap is also expected in areas such as processing of agricultural products, value addition of small grains, coconut products, and eco-friendly packaging. Technology will also be used to innovate organic production methods, smart farming, packing, branding, and licensing. This will enhance expansion of existing enterprises and increase in income. The project also includes a plan to overcome all the limitations currently faced in product marketing.
