Work on new commercial complex at Kakkanad to begin soon
Work on the new commercial complex in Kakkanad is expected to begin soon. The design, plan, and other details of the proposed complex, 'Kakkanad Commercial Complex 2.0', were unveiled at a review meeting here. The project was planned after the present complex was found inadequate to meet the growing requirements of the administrative centre of Ernakulam district. The proposed facility will come up on the land belonging to the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). It will replace the commercial complex, which is around 50 years old. The present building will be brought down before the new complex is built. The presentation on the proposed complex was made before the District Collector and officials of the GCDA and the district panchayat as well as members of the Thrikkakara municipal council. The GCDA, which has prepared the plan for the new commercial complex, has provided parking space to serve the upcoming commercial complex in keeping with the growing vehicular traffic. Besides, the Collector, GCDA Chairman K. Chandran Pillai, district panchayat president Manoj Moothedan and municipal councillor A.A. Ibrahim Kutty were present. The proposed complex will have five storeys, including basement, and will have a total space of 18,000 sq. ft. The basement will be used totally for parking. There still be separate entry and exit. The five storeys will house shops, business establishments, meeting hall, and office space. It was decided that commercial establishments that will require temporary rehabilitation will be rehabilitated as the work on the building progressed.
