The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has asked Universities to mandatorily offer one minor paper on Quantum Computing. In a meeting attended by the Vice-Chancellors of various Universities, APSCHE Chairman K. Madhu Murthy said the Council will constitute Subject Committees for preparation of syllabi and the Universities should prepare a plan for training of teachers based on the new curriculum and introduction of courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The Council Chairman said the Vice-Chancellors should ensure strict implementation of the Model Academic Calendar for 2025-26. He wanted the universities to mobilise foreign students studying in the university colleges and affiliated colleges for participation in the inaugural of Yogandhra 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on June 21. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has also directed the officials to conduct a massive campaign, a series of competitions and awareness activities with Yoga as its theme from May 21 to June 21, 2025, he said. On the issue of pending court cases regarding teacher recruitment to universities, Mr. Murthy requested the Vice-Chancellors to prepare averments of the cases filed in 2017/2018 and 2023 notifications, identify the crux of the issue and come out with ways to counter them so as to take further action in the matter. He also advised the Vice-Chancellors to attend physical meetings to discuss exclusively on the university teacher recruitment cases. Asking the Vice-Chancellors to initiate the affiliation of colleges for the academic year 2025-26, he directed them to review the cases of colleges which were under zero admission category and less than 25 % admissions into courses. The Vice-Chancellors were also asked to provide monthly targets and achievements and upload them in to Swatchandhra website.

Over 10,000 students of RGUKT IIIT appear for NPTEL exam

More than 10,000 students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) IIIT appeared for the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) examination. The examination was conducted at RGUKT Nuzvid, R.K. Valley, Srikakulam, and Ongole campuses on Monday, said university Chancellor Prof. K. Madhu Murthy, in a release. NPTEL is a prestigious national initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with leading institutes like IITs and IISc. ''The programme aims to make world-class technical education accessible to everyone through online courses,'' said RGUKT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vijaya Kumar. Registrar Prof. Sandra Amarendra Kumar appreciated the NPTEL coordinators, faculty, technical teams and administrative staff at the four campuses for successfully conducting the examination. Designed by IIT Madras, the NPTEL courses would help engineering students to enhance their technical skills. Irrespective of their syllabus or stream, students could gain additional knowledge and skills aligned with modern technological requirements, Prof. Kumar said.

Quantum Technology will play a key role in the future, says APSCHE Chairman

Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K. Madhu Murthy has said that Quantum Technology will play a major role in the near future. Speaking at the inaugural session of the centenary celebrations of Andhra University here on Saturday, Mr. Murthy urged students to focus on skills required for future needs, and said AU was one of the best platforms for students to develop those skills. Later, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor G.P. Raja Sekhar and Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, he felicitated Chilukuri Santhamma, grandaunt of Usha Chilukuri Vance, wife of U.S. Vice-President JD Vance. Prof. Santhamma, 97, who had retired as professor of physics from Andhra University more than three-and-a-half decades ago, continues to teach students of Centurion University, Vizianagaram. On the occasion, the dignitaries unveiled AU's vision document and the event calendar of the celebration. Prof. Raja Sekhar said AU began its centenary celebrations on Saturday with a year-long series of educational, cultural and outreach programmes, with a flagging off ceremony of walkathon on Beach Road on Saturday morning. He elaborated that the centenary celebrations would focus on improving educational standards, upgrading infrastructure and community outreach. Key projects included a central laboratory, rural engagement programmes through affiliated colleges, and construction of an iconic tower to honour AU's heritage. The funds would be raised from alumni contributions and corporate social responsibility programmes, he said. Established in 1926 under the Madras University Act, Andhra University shaped the educational landscape of the Telugu-speaking region, he said while remembering its early leadership, including Sir C.R. Reddy and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Mr. Sribharat said it was a matter of pride for every AU alumnus to participate in the celebrations. He expressed the hope that AU would achieve many more milestones in the future. In the morning, Commissioner of Police Shanka Brata Bagchi inaugurated the balloon-launch ceremony of the celebration at the AU administrative building.
