KCR to appear before Ghose panel on June 5

Hyderabad: Former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao will appear before Justice PC Ghose Commission of inquiry probing the Kaleshwaram project issue on June 5. The commission is making arrangements in the office to record his statements as regards the damages at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages and alleged corruption in the construction of the multi-crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project. Rao informed his readiness to appear before the commission on Tuesday. Sources said that Justice Ghose will quiz the BRS chief for at least five hours on the first day. The questioning will continue for another two days. The panel will seek his clarifications on the recorded statements of irrigation officials, former secretaries of the irrigation department and retired officials, who were part of the engineering team during the construction of the project. Till date, the commission has grilled more than 50 irrigation officials, including the retired engineers-in-chief, who had executed the works pertaining to the Kaleshwaram lift scheme. Most of the irrigation officials admitted that KCR had finalised the designs of the three damaged barrages. Central Design Organisation officials from the department have submitted evidence to the panel on the project design changes, at the behest of KCR. KCR would be asked to come clear on mobilisation of advances, taking loans at exorbitant interest rates from central funding agencies and his role in the financial management of the entire project. His explanation on the findings in the NDSA final report and the Vigilance and Enforcement department report on Medigadda would also be recorded. The commission has already prepared 90 per cent of the report (nearly 400 pages) and the remaining part will be completed soon after KCR, then irrigation minister T Harish Rao and former finance minister Eatala Rajendar depose by July.

"Loot will be exposed": TPCC chief targets KCR over Kaleshwaram project probe

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 21 (ANI): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday stated that the Congress party was elected to power on the promise of exposing corruption that occurred during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi's (BRS) tenure after summons were issued by the PC Gosh Commission to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and others. The summons were related to alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) during the BRS' 10-year rule in Telangana. Speaking to ANI, Goud said, 'People voted us (Congress) to power because we promised that the loot and corruption that happened in 10 years of BRS tenure would be exposed.' He confirmed that the current Congress-led state government had constituted a commission to investigate the alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram project. Goud emphasised that KCR and others involved in the alleged corruption should explain their version of events. The TPCC Chief stressed that those found guilty should be punished, and the people of Telangana demand accountability. 'Telangana government has thus constituted a commission to look into the irregularities of the Kaleshwaram project. The commission has KCR and others who are part of this loot. They should come and explain their version. People are demanding that all the corrupt people should be punished,' the TPCC chief added. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi MLC K Kavitha criticised the PC Ghose Commission for summoning former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to investigate irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project during the BRS regime. In a post on X, Kavitha emphasised that Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and asserted that it is part of a 'calculated political conspiracy' against KCR. 'The notices to KCR Garu over the Kaleshwaram project are part of a calculated political conspiracy to tarnish the image of a true people's leader. Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and future generations, not for politics. Today, this inefficient Congress government is undoing the very progress Telangana fought for,' Kavitha said. The BRS MLC further highlighted that KCR has devoted his life to Telangana and the transformation of barren lands into fields of prosperity, is now being targeted by the 'visionless' regime. 'KCR Garu, who has devoted his life to Telangana, transforming barren lands into fields of prosperity, is now being targeted by a visionless regime. No vindictive Government can diminish his legacy. The truth will prevail, and history will remember who stood for the people and who tried to bring them down,' K Kavitha said. Justice PC Ghose Commission on Tuesday issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. According to the sources, KCR was asked to appear before the Commission on June 5, followed by Harish Rao on June 6 and Etela Rajender on June 9. (ANI)

Ghose panel summons KCR

Hyderabad: As widely expected, Justice PC Ghose Commission, investigating the sinking of piers at the Medigadda barrage of multipurpose Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, served a notice on former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday and asked him to appear before it by June 5. The Ghose Commission, which is also looking into leakages at Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the project, also summoned the BRS leader and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao and BJP MP Eatala Rajendar on June 6 and June 9, respectively. Rajender was the finance minister in the TRS (now BRS) government when the project was initiated. Official sources said Justice Ghose would seek clarifications from the former chief minister on the statements of irrigation officials recorded by the commission earlier. The commission already grilled more than 50 irrigation officials, including the retired chief engineers who executed the works of the multi-crore Kaleshwaram project. Most of the irrigation officials, whom the commission questioned, admitted that KCR finalised the designs of the three damaged barrages under the project. The officials of the Central Design Organisation of the state's Irrigation department also submitted evidence to the commission recently on the change of the project designs under the instructions of the former chief minister. Official sources said that alleged corruption in the construction of Kaleshwaram project would come up during the questioning of KCR. He is likely to be questioned on the mobilisation of advances, borrowing loans at higher interest rates from the Central funding agencies and the role of former CM in the financial management of the entire project. The commission would also question KCR's role in the operation and maintenance of the damaged barrages. Harish Rao and Rajender's role in the project designs and release of funds during the construction of the project will be crucial to ascertain whether the transparent methods were adopted in the finalization of project designs and execution of the entire project construction, the sources said.
