KCR to appear before Ghose panel on June 5
Hyderabad: Former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao will appear before Justice PC Ghose Commission of inquiry probing the Kaleshwaram project issue on June 5.
The commission is making arrangements in the office to record his statements as regards the damages at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages and alleged corruption in the construction of the multi-crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project. Rao informed his readiness to appear before the commission on Tuesday.
Sources said that Justice Ghose will quiz the BRS chief for at least five hours on the first day. The questioning will continue for another two days.
The panel will seek his clarifications on the recorded statements of irrigation officials, former secretaries of the irrigation department and retired officials, who were part of the engineering team during the construction of the project.
Till date, the commission has grilled more than 50 irrigation officials, including the retired engineers-in-chief, who had executed the works pertaining to the Kaleshwaram lift scheme. Most of the irrigation officials admitted that KCR had finalised the designs of the three damaged barrages.
Central Design Organisation officials from the department have submitted evidence to the panel on the project design changes, at the behest of KCR.
KCR would be asked to come clear on mobilisation of advances, taking loans at exorbitant interest rates from central funding agencies and his role in the financial management of the entire project. His explanation on the findings in the NDSA final report and the Vigilance and Enforcement department report on Medigadda would also be recorded.
The commission has already prepared 90 per cent of the report (nearly 400 pages) and the remaining part will be completed soon after KCR, then irrigation minister T Harish Rao and former finance minister Eatala Rajendar depose by July.

Only KCR decided on KLIS matters: Eatala
Hyderabad: Deposing before the Justice (retd) PC Ghose one-man commission inquiring into alleged irregularities in Kaleshwaram project, former BRS finance minister (now BJP MP) Eatala Rajender said the decision on redesigning the project and location of the three barrages – Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla – was taken by the cabinet led by CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, and he had limited role as finance minister. Rajender, who was witness no. 113, told the panel that the project cost, loans, auditing and quality of barrages came under the Kaleshwaram corporation and irrigation department, not the finance department. Cabinet took decision The commission, which is probing the sinking of piers in Block 7 of Medigadda barrage and damages in Annaram and Sundilla, called Rajender as witness since he was the finance minister when the project was taken up by the BRS govt in 2015. He served as finance minister between June 2014 and Sept 2018. Apart from Rajender, the commission is set to quiz former BRS irrigation minister T Harish Rao on June 9 and KCR on June 11. On Friday, during 40 minutes of questioning, Justice Ghose posed 19 questions. Rajender maintained that he was merely one of the three members in the cabinet sub-committee headed by then irrigation minister Harish Rao on finalising the location of the Kaleshwaram project, but the cabinet took the final decision. On redesigning of Kaleshwaram, Rajender said that originally it was proposed at Thummudihatti on Maharashtra border at 152 metres height and reduced to 148 metres. Since there were objections from the neighbouring state, the sub-committee was constituted by KCR and cabinet approved it based on expert committee, technical committee and sub-committee reports. He replied that the sub-committee okayed the redesigning and the three barrages' construction was approved by the cabinet. The MP, however, said he was not aware 5.97 crore paid to WAPCOS for preparation of the report. The project's initial cost was 16,500 crore, which was revised to 38,000 crore. Later, after revision and inclusion of more areas and components, it was estimated to cost 63,000 crore. Even that was revised to 82,000 crore. Of this, the barrages cost less than 10,000 crore, he said. 'KCR is the big boss' Later, speaking to reporters, Rajender said the decision to shift Kaleshwaram location from Thummidihatti to Medigadda was taken by KCR , who was head of the cabinet and big boss. "There were some comments when I was summoned by the one-man commission. But people of Telangana know me for the past 25 years and I have maintained ethics in politics. I won't lie even at gun point," Rajender said. The BJP MP demanded that the govt take action against all those responsible for the alleged irregularities in the project as some agencies have already submitted their reports. He also urged the govt to make reports public. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

Uttam vows to fight for Telangana's fair share in Krishna waters
Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N on Friday said the Congress govt has been making every effort to stall the Andhra Pradesh govt from illegally utilising Krishna waters. He asserted that the state govt would go to any extent to protect Telangana's rights over river waters. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking about the Godavari-Banakcherla link scheme, under which the AP govt plans to divert the floodwaters from Godavari, the minister said Telangana govt wrote several letters to Union minister of Jal Shakti CR Patil and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, objecting to the neighbouring state's proposal. He said that the scheme violates the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) tribunal award as well as the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. He dismissed the allegations of the BRS that the state govt was not doing anything to stall the irrigation scheme. "The state govt received a letter from Jal Shakti minister CR Patil last week, who said the Andhra Pradesh govt has not yet submitted a detailed proposal for the Godavari-Banakacherla river linking scheme. He assured the Telangana govt that once the proposal is received from the AP govt, the Central Water Commission (CWC) would examine it in accordance with the existing guidelines, tribunal and inter-state agreements and various provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, and would take appropriate action," Uttam Kumar Reddy told reporters. He added that the Telangana govt had brought to the notice of the Centre by writing multiple letters that the AP govt was proceeding with calling tenders and awarding contracts for the project, thereby flouting several norms. He urged the Centre not to fund the project and appealed to BJP ministers and MPs from Telangana to cooperate with the state govt on the issue. The minister accused the BRS of doing injustice to Telangana by agreeing to a water-sharing agreement of 299 TMC for Telangana and 512 TMC for AP in Krishna river since 2015. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "It was Congress govt that opposed it and has been asking for 700 TMC for Telangana," Uttam said. The minister further alleged that the BRS govt failed to stop the neighbouring state when it altered the scope of ongoing projects and proposed new schemes to divert the Krishna water. "While 727 TMC of water was utilised outside the Srisailam project during the previous Congress rule between 2004 and 2014, the diversion rose to over 1,250 TMC between 2014 and 2023, as per the official figures," Uttam Kumar Reddy said while giving the various schemes such as Pothireddypadu head regulator and other schemes. He accused the BRS govt of helping the Andhra Pradesh govt led by Jaganmohan Reddy earlier to take up the Rayalaseem Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) and even asked the Centre to postpone the Apex council meeting to allow the AP to complete tendering process in 2020. The minister said that had the BRS govt not spent an additional Rs 68,000 crore on Kaleshwaram and instead allocated funds to other irrigation schemes, the state could have brought an additional 25 lakh acres under irrigation.

Revanth dubs BRS ‘Devils Rajya Samithi', seeks 10-yr mandate for $1 tn T'gana
1 2 Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on BRS, chief minister A Revanth Reddy Friday dubbed the pink party as 'Devils Rajya Samithi (DRS),' mocking MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks about 'devils' harming her party from within. "Don't call it BRS anymore. Call it DRS," Revanth told a crowd at Alair in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where he laid foundation for over ₹1,050 crore worth of projects. "BRS leaders themselves admit KCR is surrounded by devils. Yet their leader is asleep in the farmhouse. Go to every village and tell people these devils have arrived when BRS leaders show up," the CM said, calling upon Congress cadres to brand their rivals as 'DRS' across Telangana . With an eye on long-term governance, Revanth urged people to give the Congress a 10-year mandate, promising to make Telangana a $1 trillion economy and transform Hyderabad into a city on a par with New York and Tokyo. "I have no personal ambitions left. Bringing down KCR was my goal. Now my only aim is to develop Telangana," he declared. Revanth slammed the BRS for targeting the Congress after the PC Ghose Commission summoned KCR in connection with the Kaleshwaram project probe. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Why this arrogance?" he asked. He accused the former CM of playing politics with the deity Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. "They denied people their right to stay atop the hill and fulfil their vows. Sins follow you like shadows. Maybe that's why KCR was hospitalised with fractures," he said. The CM laid foundation stones for projects, including the ₹574 crore Gandhamalla reservoir, ₹200 crore Young India Residential School, ₹183 crore medical college building, bridges, godowns, and roads across Alair constituency. He also vowed to develop the area under the Yadagirigutta Temple Board, much like the TTD in Andhra Pradesh. Revanth said the Congress would complete all pending irrigation projects in the region, and rejuvenate the Musi river despite resistance. "If Sabarmati and Ganga can be cleaned, why not Musi?" he asked, targeting both BRS and BJP for opposing the project. 'Employees are with Cong' Countering BRS criticism over employee issues, Revanth said, "Ask over five lakh govt employees—are you not getting your salaries on the first of every month now?" He added, "If not, don't vote for Congress. But if you are, give us another term. We treat you like family." On the caste census, he credited Telangana's 42% BC reservation plan for compelling PM Modi to promise a national-wide caste survey.
