Coolie director Lokesh Kanagaraj reacts to Sanjay Dutt saying he was wasted in Leo
Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj responded to Sanjay Dutt's recent comments about being underutilised in Leo. The Bollywood actor, during the teaser launch of KD – The Devil, had said that while he loved working with Thalapathy Vijay, he was angry with Lokesh for not giving him a bigger role in the 2023 action Kanagaraj, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, shared his side of the story. 'Sanjay sir actually called me after that event. He said to me, 'I made a very funny comment, but it got awkward after people cut it and put it on social media.' I just said, No problem, sir,' the director Clarifying that he does not deliberately sideline characters, Kanagaraj said, 'See, I'm not a genius or a great filmmaker who wouldn't write stories that overshadow other characters. I have made so many mistakes in my films, and I'm still learning.' The filmmaker also hinted at a future collaboration with Dutt. 'Probably, I would do another film with Sanjay Dutt sir, and make it up to him.'Sanjay Dutt, during a recent press conference while promoting his upcoming film KD - The Devil, said, 'I worked with Thalapathy Vijay and I loved working with him. However, I am angry with Lokesh because he didn't give me a big role. He wasted me,' which quickly went viral on social upcoming project Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, is set for release on August 14, 2025. The film, set against a harbour backdrop, features Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Shoubin, Satyaraj and a cameo by Aamir Khan. He said, 'I loved working with Thalapathy Vijay. I am angry at Lokesh because he did not give me a big role. He wasted me.' In the same interaction, Sanjay stated that he respects Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. 'I look up to them and learn from them. I have worked with Rajinikanth in multiple movies. He is the most humble person,' he said. He also called Ajith a 'close friend', claiming that he 'loves' him. Lokesh's Coolie starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Monisha Blessy and Kaali Venkat will be released in theatres on August 14. And added, " Because they were so insistent, my manager suggested me to hear the narration and then decide. I was on the wheelchair when they were narrating the film. Upon hearing the narration, I stood up from the wheelchair without realizing that I had suffered a fracture. And I reacted, saying 'Mujhe ye film karni hai'. After hearing the full narrative, I gave a nod to the film." Shilpa Shetty Kundra will be seen stepping into a retro avatar for the first time, essaying an intense role of Satyavathi. Shilpa Shetty hesitant to work in Malayalam films, says won't be able to do justice
Actor Shilpa Shetty opened up about her reluctance to take up roles in the Malayalam film industry.
