South Carolina falls to #1 LSU 7-3 in final game of regular season
COLUMBIA (USC SID) – In the final game of the regular season, the University of South Carolina baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to No. 1 LSU Saturday afternoon (May 17) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. Carolina struck first in the bottom of the second as KJ Scobey doubled to left to bring in Jase Woita. LSU answered with a run in the top of the fourth, but Beau Hollins' sixth home run of the season gave Carolina a 2-1 lead. LSU took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring on a ground ball double play and a two-run Daniel Dickinson home run. LSU scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Henry Kaczmar's solo home run in the eighth ended the scoring for the Gamecocks. The loss went to Dylan Eskew, who allowed four runs and six hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Parker Marlatt had three strikeouts in two innings of relief. Hollins had two hits to lead Carolina's offense. POSTGAME NOTES Scobey had four hits in the LSU series, three of which were for extra bases. Kaczmar and Woita ended SEC play with a .333 average in conference tilts. The Gamecock pitching staff had 10 strikeouts on the day. UP NEXTCarolina turns its attention to the 2025 SEC Tournament, held at the Hoover Met. South Carolina drops pair to Florida; 22-3 in game one, 8-0 in game 2
COLUMBIA (USC SID) – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped a pair of games to Florida Sunday (May 4) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. The Gamecocks lost the completion of Saturday's suspended game, 22-3, and fell in the regularly-scheduled game, 8-0. Carolina fell behind, 5-0, after four-and-a-half frames in game one. The Gamecocks got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a Florida fielding error. Then in the sixth, KJ Scobey homered to left for his fifth home run of the season. Jordan Carrion had an RBI single in the seventh to make it 6-3 Gators. Florida scored five in the eighth and 11 in the ninth for the win. In game two, Carolina had four hits in the game. The Gators hit three home runs in the contest, scoring a run in the second, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh. Jake McCoy took the loss in game one, striking out two and allowing two hits and a run in three innings. Blake Jackson reached base five times in the contests, while Nathan Hall and Jase Woita had two hits apiece. Ashton Crowther took the loss in game two, striking out four and allowing five hits and one earned run in four innings. Cayden Gaskin had two hits to lead the Gamecock offense. POSTGAME NOTES Carolina left 13 men on base in the first game of the day. Hall is now hitting .345 on the year with a team-best 12 doubles. The Gamecocks used seven pitchers in game one of the day. UP NEXTCarolina does not have a midweek game and will return to action Thursday night (May 8) against Auburn in Auburn, Ala. Gamecocks knock-off UNF in extra innings
COLUMBIA – KJ Scobey's ground-rule double in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Jordan Carrion and gave the University of South Carolina baseball team a 3-2, 10-inning walk-off win over North Florida Tuesday night (April 22) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. Carrion opened the 10th with a double to right. After UNF intentionally walked Beau Hollins, Scobey took the 3-2 pitch from Brandon Adams and deposited it over the centerfielder's head for a ground-rule double and Carolina's first extra-inning walk-off of the year. The Gamecocks scored in the bottom of the fifth on Nathan Hall's two-run home run to the visitor's bullpen. UNF scored an unearned run in the sixth and a run in the eighth to send it to extra innings. Carolina's pitching allowed just six hits and had only one walk on the day. Brendan Sweeney earned the win, striking out a pair in the top of the 10th. Jackson Soucie pitched the first five frames, allowing three hits and no runs with three strikeouts. Scobey had two hits to lead Carolina's offense while Hall drove in a pair. POSTGAME NOTES Ethan Petry's double in the bottom of the fourth gave the junior 200 career hits at Carolina. This was Carolina's first walk-off since the Raleigh Regional in 2024 on Will Tippett's sacrifice fly in a win over James Madison. Soucie now has allowed just nine runs in 25.1 innings with 28 strikeouts and a .204 opponent's batting average.
