Kneecap movie takes top prize at Celtic Media Awards
Kneecap, the Belfast rap trio's acclaimed Irish-language origin movie, has won the top prize at this year's Celtic Media Awards in Cornwall. The film was awarded Spirit of the Festival at the three-day celebration of film, television, radio and digital media which promotes languages and cultures of the Celtic nations and regions. Directed by Rich Peppiatt, Kneecap is set in West Belfast in 2019 and tells the story of how the group, consisting of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí, formed and went on to "change the sound of Irish music forever". The winner for the 2025 #SpiritOfTheFestival is ✨Kneecap✨ @KNEECAPCEOL @richpeppiatt @TG4TV @FPF_Docs @ScreenIreland @NIScreen @CNaM_ie @BFI @belowtheradartv #CelticMedia #TorcAwards #SpiritOfTheFestival — Celtic Media Festival (@CelticMediaFest) June 5, 2025 It also stars Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender, Simone Kirby, Jessica Reynolds and Fionnuala Flaherty. TG4 is the broadcast partner for Kneecap, and the channel's Commissioning Editor, Proinsias Ní Ghráinne, said that this honour follows "a year and a half of incredible success for Kneecap" since the film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where it won the coveted Audience Award. " Kneecap has brought the Irish language to the most important stages of the world as a powerful creative channel that speaks to indigenous cultures, music lovers and anyone who appreciates good storytelling," Ní Ghráinne said. "TG4's commitment to support this wave of excellence in both scripted and non-scripted content is unwavering. It is particularly rewarding to see our content stand up to competition from the best of the best from the Celtic Nations. Comhghairdeas Kneecap." The Celtic Media Festival (CMF) is held annually, rotating between venues in the various Celtic nations and regions, with this year's festival taking place in Newquay, Cornwall.

Spike in Google searches for 'TRNSMT refund' after Kneecap axed
It was confirmed that the Irish rap group had been removed from the line-up on Wednesday as promoters DF Concerts cited "concerns expressed by the police about safety at the event". Ticket holders were emailed about the decision, with a statement which said: "Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap will no longer perform at TRNSMT on Friday, 11 July. "We thank fans for their understanding." Responding, Kneecap said that "Glasgow has always been a huge city for us" as they announced a new gig taking place in Glasgow on July 8, just days before their appearance at TRNSMT was scheduled to take place. Presale tickets for the gig at the O2 Academy sold out within seconds on Thursday morning, the group said, with general tickets going on sale on Saturday morning from 10am. Since the announcement that Kneecap had been axed from TRNSMT, search engine Google has seen a huge increase in the number of searches for "TRNSMT refund". (Image: Google) Following an initial spike in searches as the news first broke, Thursday has seen a massive spike in the number of people looking at how to get a refund. Google has listed 100% of searches as originating in Scotland. Users are also searching for the term "reimbursement". Can I get a TRNSMT refund? TRNSMT's terms and conditions state that refunds are typically only issued if the event has been cancelled in full, with partial refunds given if only one or more days is cancelled. If a "material alteration" is made to the festival, customers can also request a refund. However, this does not include any changes to the line-up of the festival. Click here to see the full terms and conditions of TRNSMT. Ticket holders have also taken to social media to ask whether they can get a refund following the news that Kneecap was axed from the festival. One social media user said: "In light of this email could anyone from @TicketmasterUK @TRNSMTfest advise on how to claim a refund? "The only reason I was taking my teenage daughter was to see @KNEECAPCEOL" Another said: "TRNSMT + Rockstar Energy need to explain exactly what those publicly safety concerns are "Because at face value they read like a lie. They read like you, or police, have caved to pressure from Israeli Lobby. "Until you do, everyone attending @TRNSMTfest should demand a refund."

LBC journalist says 'F***ing hell' as caller brings up genocide
The incident occurred during a segment on the radio channel on Tuesday afternoon in which Fogarty takes calls from viewers to discuss the day's main topics. The caller, Oisín, raised the political context surrounding criticism of Kneecap and their statements in support of Palestinians amid Israel's brutal war on Gaza. As he referenced alleged war crimes in Gaza, calling it a 'genocide', and accusing politicians of ignoring them, Fogarty interrupted. READ MORE: Hotel on Scotland's NC500 with 'stunning views' put up for sale 'You describe it as a genocide. Not everyone does,' she said. Oisin responded: 'It's the top human rights lawyers in the world also describe it as a genocide. Many around the world also do.' Fogarty then said: 'I'm just doing my job Oisín, you describe it and I make my point as a journalist'. Naughty Shelagh Fogarty on @LBC this afternoon. The chat was around @KNEECAPCEOL and inevitably turned to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Shelagh didn't like what her caller had to say and perhaps forgot that her mic was still on? She dropped the F bomb live. — Don McGowan (@donmcgowan) April 29, 2025 She then audibly muttered 'f***ing hell' under her breath (above). Oisín later posted on X demanding an apology from both the presenter and LBC. 'I would like an official apology from @LBC and @ShelaghFogarty for the abusive language used towards me, since they've been so big on demanding apologies all day,' he said. It doesn't appear as though Fogarty has issued a formal apology or acknowledged swearing on air. LBC have been approached for comment.
