Cherokee County sheriff and FBI team up for crime probe
(KODE & KSN) — The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with the FBI to investigate crime in the area. The partnership will allow the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to assign one of its deputies as an FBI Task Force Officer. That deputy will be assigned to investigate criminal activity within Cherokee County while working with other law enforcement agencies. It's part of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force Program, which focuses on identifying and targeting criminals and groups accused of serious felony offenses. The goal is to prioritize investigations so they can be brought before prosecutors while giving investigators all resources available to local and federal law enforcement agencies. 'Because that's what we're after. Again, is just create a better quality of life for the citizens and visitors that come here to see Cherokee County, where we would like to completely end crime. But we know that's not potential. But if we can reduce it and show the people that are thinking about committing a crime, that there's consequences for their actions,' said Brian Henderson. DEADLY 100 DAYS: Experts warn of increased teen driving risks in summer months
(KODE & KSN) — The next three months are some of the most dangerous times to be on the road. It's referred to as the '100 Deadliest Days', the timeframe between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Law enforcement officials typically see more deadly crashes during that time and, a lot of times, teenage drivers are the victims. School is out, so there's more of them behind the wheel and more traffic in general. Simple steps can often mean the difference between life and death for drivers of all ages. 'Anytime there's extra traffic on the roadways, what we need people to do is add extra time to your trip. Give yourself extra time. Increase your following distance. Don't follow the car in front of you too closely. Put your seatbelt on and put your phone down. You do those four things, you are probably going to get from A to B safely,' said Cpl. Sam Carpenter, MSHP. Drivers need to also keep in mind it's construction season—they need to be extra cautious. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Access Family Care talks Trump's prescription price cuts
(KODE & KSN) — A new presidential executive order could mean prescription drug prices are in for some big changes. President Trump has set a 30-day deadline for lower medication prices with a threat of new limits down the road if that doesn't happen. Steve Douglas with Access Family Care says that could make a huge difference for many of their clients, as well as southwest Missouri patients in general. He adds it's too early to know the specific impact, but it's important that it's now a priority. 'I know a lot of people know their medications are expensive, but I don't think they fully understand how expensive. And for me personally, I take a blood pressure medication. I went on a trip last year to France. That same medication in France, I found a pharmacy there for $30 and in the United States, I paid $312 without insurance for it. And it struck me as, 'Why is it so much less in France than it is here?' said Douglas. Medicare alone spends hundreds of billions of dollars on prescription drugs, meaning there could be substantial savings for taxpayers if drug prices drop. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
