‘90 acres of Gurramguda forest polluted'
Hyderabad: The forest department has issued notices to multiple civic agencies, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and Badangpet Municipality, demanding an immediate halt to the discharge of untreated sewage into the Gurramguda reserved forest area. 'Wildlife vanishing' In separate communications, forest range officer Dr K Srinivas Reddy of Ibrahimpatnam pointed out that drainage water, reportedly flowing from colonies such as Hariharapuram, BN Reddy Nagar, Sripuram Colony, and the Sagar Complex, has turned nearly 90 acres of protected forest land into sewage pools. "This discharge of untreated drainage/sewage water into the protected forest area is causing severe ecological damage," Dr Reddy wrote in a letter addressed to the general manager of HMWSSB. The letter cites violations under multiple environmental and forest laws, including the Forest (Conservation) Act and the Environment (Protection) Act. The drain along the colony's retaining wall has become a pond. Mosquitoes increased and wildlife is vanishing." Notices served In a letter addressed to GHMC's LB Nagar zonal commissioner dated July 29, the forest department cited ongoing litigation concerning the land. The department has demanded the immediate cessation of sewage discharge, the restoration of damaged land and water bodies, and disclosure of responsibility. Notices have been served to HMWSSB, GHMC, and Badangpet Municipality.

Indiramma Housing Scheme to benefit rural and deceased journalists families: Minister Ponguleti
HYDERABAD: Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Friday said that the state government will extend the benefits of Indiramma Housing Scheme to eligible journalists. He said that top priority will be given to impoverished journalists in rural areas as well as the families of journalists who have died in the line of duty. The minister was addressing the gathering after handing over cheques to families of journalists, who had died in the line of duty and facing severe health issues. He presented the cheques in the presence of Press Academy chairman K Srinivas Reddy. He said that the government will come up with a comprehensive plan to help the mandal and constituency level journalists. Stating that the state government is committed to completing construction of Press Academy building, he said that the government has already given Rs 42 crore towards establishing a corpus fund. Meanwhile, Srinvasa Reddy said that the government will be giving licences to around 5,000 surveyors to give better services in land administration. He said that these private surveyors would be handy in demarcation of lands, and creating maps.
