Forces intensify ops, key arrests made
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on underground activities and criminal networks targeting insurgents, arms smugglers and vehicle lifters across the state and arrested insurgents and criminals in Imphal West and East in the past two days. On Aug 5, an active cadre of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), identified as Sagolsem Hemanta Singh (41) of Phumlou Keiroi Maning Leikai in Imphal West district, was arrested from his residence. According to officials, Singh was involved in recruiting cadres for the proscribed group. A mobile phone was seized from him. On the same day, security personnel apprehended Naobi Leishangthem (33), also known as Youhenba, a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP - Military & Foreign Liaison), from a rented house in Lamphel Yaipha Leikai in Imphal West. He was reportedly engaged in extortion and illegal settlements of criminal cases. In a separate operation on Aug 4, two suspected arms smugglers were nabbed from different parts of Imphal East. Ningombam Abung Meitei (50) of Huidrom Awang Leikai was arrested from Pourabi Hidumbi, while Ningthoujam Konungjao Meetei (33) of Keibi Khulen Makha Leikai was picked up from his residence. The accused, Md Mufasin (20) of Lilong Makha Leikai and Md Aman (20) of Lilong Lou Tara, were taken into custody, and the stolen two-wheeler was recovered from their possession.

Manipur security forces arrest 14 militants, 3 arms dealers

A police official said that the 14 militants were arrested from four districts - Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal in the past 24 14 militants belong to four different banned extremist outfits -- Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), People's Liberation Army (PLA), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).According to the police official, the militants were involved in abduction, various crimes, forcible collection of money from contractors, traders, government employees, common men and arms and ammunition, Aadhaar cards, some incriminating documents and various other materials were recovered from the 14 arrested also said that three arms dealers, including an active cadre of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Pambei group), were also arrested by the security forces from Puhkhao Ahallup Makha Leikai in Imphal East district The arrested persons are involved in the illicit trafficking and transaction of illegal arms and ammunition in the Imphal East district.
