Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel has update on Kader Kohou injury
MIAMI GARDENS -- Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters, with the injury to cornerback Kader Kohou the primary order of business. Highlights: Kader Kohou update: Cornerback Kader Kohou was injured during the most recent practice and left with trainers. He suffered a leg injury. "We're working on a day-to-day evaluation on him," McDaniel said. McDaniel said there's no concern about the injury affecting Kohou in the regular season -- at least for now. Evaluations continue. "If there would be a concern, it would be completely made up," McDaniel said. "There's quite literally, I don't have the information to lean any way." Happy for Fitzpatrick: Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a two-year deal. "I really understand the individual players," McDaniel said. "I get really pumped anytime business happens." McDaniel said he's even more pleased when a player shows him "the most important thing is our team is getting better in football and the focus is on that." Hilton left impression: McDaniel knows cornerback Mike Hilton from playing against him. McDaniel recalls thinking "I wish they wouldn't be in nickel. I wish they had another linebacker on the field." Paul impresses McDaniel: McDaniel was asked about LT Patrick Paul. Patrick's been doing great because he has to," McDaniel said. "I think his growth has been monumental. I think you can feel a different energy based on increased confidence." Paul's confidence is such that he said the other day that he feels no pressure protecting QB Tua Tagovailoa. What's up with Trader? Safety Dante Trader Jr. is expected to see action in joint practices with the Bears and Lions. Adams update: CB BJ Adams is in concussion protocol and "doing well." Birthday cake for all? Today is defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver's 45th birthday. Brewer improving: Center Aaron Brewer will participate in some walk-through situations this week. Waller working with Embree: TE Darren Waller has been working on the side with TE coach Jon Embree. Miami Dolphins' secondary gets makeover, remains team's biggest concern entering camp
(Editor's note: This concludes our summer series on the Miami Dolphins. Each entry breaks down a specific position group, examining how the 2024 unit performed. what's expected in 2025 and, finally, concluding which group is better, the 2024 version or 2025.) Perhaps no position group will be under more scrutiny during Dolphins training camp than the secondary. The unit underwent massive changes since the end of the 2024 season and its performance will be a key to how strong the defense will be in 2025. HOPE SPRINS ETERNAL: Dolphins training camp opening: 5 reasons for optimism Last year's defensive backs Kader Kohou Jalen Ramsey Jevon Holland Jordan Poyer Elijah Campbell Ethan Bonner Patrick McMorris Siran Neal Storm Duck Cam Smith Kendall Fuller How they performed The Dolphins were ninth against the pass last season, but as you'll see, the cast of characters is changing considerably. Miami had just 10 interceptions in 2024 and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has made creating turnovers a priority. Duck was a pleasant surprise – call him 2024's answer to Kader Kohou, who suddenly is among the most experienced players in Miami's secondary. Smith continued to struggle with fitness and playing time. This year's defensive backs Minkah Fitzpatrick Kohou Kendall Sheffield Ashtyn Davis Campbell Artie Burns Smith Ifeatu Melifonwu Bonner Dante Trader Jr. McMorris Jason Marshall Jr. Jordan Colbert John Saunders Jr. Duck Isaiah Johnson Ryan Cooper Jr. B.J. Adams Ethan Robinson Jason Maitre Outlook The Dolphins added Davis, Melifonwu and Burns in free agency. But they lost Holland. Then they traded away Ramsey for a familiar face in Fitzpatrick, which, at least as far as the secondary is concerned, offered a net gain of zero established vets in the defensive backfield. Holland didn't have his best year last season and, although he was a good player for Miami overall, his career didn't hit the high note some expected it to. He hasn't, for example, made a single Pro Bowl. The Dolphins lost experience with Fuller and Poyer gone, but Poyer in particular was disappointing last season. So put it all together and the talent lost should not be overstated. Having said that, where are the replacements or reinforcements? For various reasons, Davis, Melifonwu and Burns made four starts combined for their teams last season. They had two interceptions combined. The No. 1 reason to be concerned about this team is the secondary, and it's not even close. The offense should score points, but can the defense stop people from doing the same? Can the Dolphins really be optimistic facing Josh Allen (twice), Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Jayden Daniels with a patchwork secondary? Bottom line: Last year's model or this year's? Last year. Clearly. This article originally appeared on Palm Beach Post: Miami Dolphins 2025 hopes revolve around new faces at defensive back

Dolphins' Kader Kohou Entering Make-or-Break Year
Dolphins' Kader Kohou Entering Make-or-Break Year originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Dolphins have been drawing closer to a potential Jalen Ramsey trade, which will open the door for one of the Dolphins' defensive backs who is entering a contract year. Advertisement According to Kyle Crabbs of A-to-Z Sports, fourth-year nickelback Kader Kohou, who made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022, must perform if he wants to stay in Miami next season. "If he thrives, he could earn a new contract from the team," Crabbs said. "But if he falters? Miami may opt not to pay a nickel defender and allow him to walk in free agency if he doesn't meet the moment." However, because of Ramsey's anticipated departure, Kohou's role with the Dolphins' defense becomes even more important. Miami Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou (4) celebrates following an interception against the Seattle Seahawks during the first quarter at Lumen Nicholson-Imagn Images "The former undrafted free agent is in a position to potentially take a huge leap this season," Crabbs said. Advertisement As the starting slot corner in 2024, Kohou snagged two interceptions to go along with eight passes defensed, 45 tackles, and one forced fumble and fumble recovery. It was a career low in total tackles, but Kohou was asked to spend more time in coverage than years past. Kohou is expected to start in 2025 at the nickel position, where he played well last season, but could also see time on the outside in the absence of Ramsey. Storm Duck appears to be solidified in one of the outside corner spots, with Cam Smith and Jason Marshall Jr. also competing at the position. With training camp on the horizon, Kohou will likely be looking to improve and fully establish himself as the man for the job for years to come, earning a new contract. Dolphins re-sign veteran RFA cornerback
Dolphins re-sign veteran RFA cornerback The Miami Dolphins re-signed cornerback Kader Kohou on Friday, according to a league memo. Kohou, 26, was tendered as a restricted free agent by the Dolphins in March, meaning that other teams were free to sign the cornerback to an offer sheet. But Miami didn't have to match any offer, because none came for Kohou. Now he's set to return to the Dolphins on a one-year deal. The Ivory Coast-native signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and in only three years he's quickly become one of the team's most tenured defensive players. Kohou has played in 47 games in his three seasons with the Dolphins and started 38. He has three career interceptions, one sack, two forced fumbles, and 13 tackles for loss. The Dolphins have tinkered some at cornerback this offseason, parting with veteran Kendall Fuller and adding former first-round pick Artie Burns to the roster. As of now, Kohou is likely to be the team's starting slot corner in 2025.

Dolphins Cornerback Kader Kohou Preparing to Sign his Tender.
Earlier this offseason, the Miami Dolphins placed the right of first refusal tender on starting nickelback Kader Kohou. That made Kohou a restricted free agent, allowing the Dolphins to match any offers he received. On a recent episode of The Dive Bar Podcast, Kohou reaffirmed his commitment to the team, stating, "I'm a restricted free agent this year, so it's not like the normal process of talking to a lot of teams." He added, "The Dolphins have all my rights. They sent a tender, and I'm getting ready to sign that soon." Kohou started nine of the 15 games he appeared in last season with the Dolphins. He recorded 45 tackles (33 solo), two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three tackles for loss, and eight passes defended. Advertisement Over his three seasons in the NFL, Kohou has accumulated 180 tackles (148 solo), one sack, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 28 passes defended. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (17) carries the ball against Miami Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou (4) in the second half at SoFi Lee-Imagn Images While his statistics may not seem particularly impressive on paper, Kohou has become a valuable asset to Miami's secondary. After an inconsistent season in Vic Fangio's system in 2023, he showed significant improvement under current Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver last season. Though nothing is official until the contract is signed, re-signing Kohou on the $3,263,000 tender would be the best-case scenario for the Dolphins. Advertisement Beyond star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, there isn't much depth in Miami's cornerback room, with available options including Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner, and Artie Burns. Retaining Kohou at that price is a no-brainer for the Dolphins. Related: Dolphins Projected to Take Defensive Leader in New NFL Mock Draft
