Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel has update on Kader Kohou injury

Yahoo3 days ago
MIAMI GARDENS -- Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters, with the injury to cornerback Kader Kohou the primary order of business.
Highlights:
Kader Kohou update: Cornerback Kader Kohou was injured during the most recent practice and left with trainers. He suffered a leg injury.
"We're working on a day-to-day evaluation on him," McDaniel said.
McDaniel said there's no concern about the injury affecting Kohou in the regular season -- at least for now. Evaluations continue.
"If there would be a concern, it would be completely made up," McDaniel said. "There's quite literally, I don't have the information to lean any way."
Happy for Fitzpatrick: Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a two-year deal.
"I really understand the individual players," McDaniel said. "I get really pumped anytime business happens."
McDaniel said he's even more pleased when a player shows him "the most important thing is our team is getting better in football and the focus is on that."
Hilton left impression: McDaniel knows cornerback Mike Hilton from playing against him. McDaniel recalls thinking "I wish they wouldn't be in nickel. I wish they had another linebacker on the field."
Paul impresses McDaniel: McDaniel was asked about LT Patrick Paul. Patrick's been doing great because he has to," McDaniel said. "I think his growth has been monumental. I think you can feel a different energy based on increased confidence."
Paul's confidence is such that he said the other day that he feels no pressure protecting QB Tua Tagovailoa.
What's up with Trader? Safety Dante Trader Jr. is expected to see action in joint practices with the Bears and Lions.
Adams update: CB BJ Adams is in concussion protocol and "doing well."
Birthday cake for all? Today is defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver's 45th birthday.
Brewer improving: Center Aaron Brewer will participate in some walk-through situations this week.
Waller working with Embree: TE Darren Waller has been working on the side with TE coach Jon Embree.

Richardson, Lyles ease through 100m heats at US trials

Reigning 100m world champions Sha'Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles cruised through their opening heats at the USA Track and Field trials on Thursday as they build towards the defence of their global titles at September's World Championships. Both Richardson and Lyles have already booked their tickets to Tokyo due to their status as reigning champions, but are using this week's meeting at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, to hone their form. The charismatic Richardson finished ninth at the Prefontaine Classic at Eugene earlier in July in a modest time of 11.19 sec. But the 25-year-old Texan indicated she is making progress after finishing second in her heat in a time of 11.07sec, behind Kayla White in 10.89sec. Richardson's time was the 11th fastest of the opening heats, where Melissa Jefferson-Wooden impressed running 10.86sec into a 1.5m/s headwind. "Felt amazing to run a qualifying, show fitness and take the rest of the time to get ready for Tokyo," said Richardson, adding that she is comfortable competing while knowing that her World Championship berth is assured. "USA is one of the hardest teams to make, so it definitely is a kind of a release of pressure knowing I have a bye," she told AFP. "It feels really good to not have that pressure and still be able to go to Tokyo." - 'Under the radar' - Richardson meanwhile is relaxed about the fact she will head to Tokyo with other sprinters likely ahead of her in the betting stakes. "Right now I'm cruising under the radar, but when it's time to hit -- it's gonna be a bang where y'all see my name," she said. In the men's 100m, meanwhile, Richardson's fellow world champion Lyles won his heat in 10.05sec, the fifth fastest time of the first round. Lyles told reporters he is using this weekend to get as much racing under his belt as possible, even though he was under no obligation to run given his bye. "I need races -- everybody knows I started the season late due to injury," said Lyles, who was beaten in his first 100m of the season at the London Diamond League on July 19. "I just need as many races as possible. After the 100 in London, me and my coach were like 'We might as well (race at trials)'. It's a free race, it's good competition." Lyles, though, said he has seen encouraging signs that he is rounding back to full fitness. "I just need more races -- I've got to get the engine firing and get that urgency into my body," Lyles said. "But that was just my second 100 of the year; I can't really be mad at that." Potentially the biggest threat to Lyles on Friday could come in the shape of Kenny Bednarek, the two-time Olympic 200m silver medallist who posted the quickest time of Thursday's heats in 9.95sec. In the women's 800m, Tokyo Olympic champion Athing Mu-Nikolayev qualified for the next round second fastest in 2min 0.06sec. Mu-Nikolayev exited last year's Olympic trials in tears after a fall in the final saw her trail in last place, ruling her out of the Paris Games. "I'm glad it was a bit faster rather than being slower," she said. "It felt pretty good. I'm happy with it." rcw/bb

🎥 Was it a penalty? Controversy in Flamengo 🆚 Atlético-MG

The Flamengo 🆚 Atlético Mineiro match on Thursday night (31) started off with a bang at Maracanã. With a play that caused controversy just seven minutes a cross from Hulk - who had already wasted a great chance -, Cuello headed and the ball was deflected by Varela inside the box. After a short time and a likely VAR review, Raphael Claus let the game continue. The Galo players asked for a penalty. See the play below and give your opinion. Mikal Bridges agrees to $150 million extension with Knicks, AP source says

NEW YORK (AP) — Mikal Bridges agreed to a four-year, $150 million extension with the New York Knicks on Thursday, a person with knowledge of the details said. The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it had not been announced. It was first reported by ESPN. The Knicks gave up five first-round picks to acquire Bridges last June and he rewarded them by taking less than he could have earned to lock in to a future with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Bridges could have earned $156 million in this extension, or even more by waiting until his contract expired next summer. Instead, he took the deal that could allow the Knicks future flexibility to keep building a team that reached the Eastern Conference finals last season for the first time since 2000. ___ AP NBA:
