First time in 2 decades, EC holds revision of voters' list for bypolls

For the first time in nearly two decades, the Election Commission revised the voters' list of five constituencies for holding assembly bypolls there in a bid to ensure a "spotless" electoral roll. The last time a special summary revision took place for a bypoll was in 2006 in Tamil Nadu, officials pointed out. Citing provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, officials said the electoral roll is to be revised before every election and bypoll unless otherwise directed by the EC. If the electoral roll is not revised, the validity or continued operation of the said electoral roll shall not be affected, they said, quoting the law. The validity of the current electoral roll continues till the completion of the special revision. Officials underlined that it is for the commission to decide if revision of electoral rolls has to be conducted or not, depending on the requirement. Bypolls to five assembly seats in four states will be held on June 19, the poll authority announced last month. While two assembly bypolls will be held in Gujarat, one each will take place in Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab. The counting of votes will take place on June 23. In Gujarat, the bypoll to the Kadi seat was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki. Another bypoll to the Visavadar seat in the state is taking place due to the resignation of sitting member Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. In Kerala, the Nilambur seat will go to a bypoll since P V Anvar has resigned, while a bypoll will be held in Punjab's Ludhiana seat due to the death of sitting member Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. A by-election to the Kaliganj Assembly seat in West Bengal has been necessitated due to the death of sitting assembly member Nasiruddin Ahamed. Special Summary Revision is the legal term for revision of electoral rolls to weed out voters who have left the constituency or have died, and to add new names.

Mena Massoud, Christina Hendricks, Cary Elwes to Star in Sam Kadi Political Thriller "The American Spring"

Yara Sameh Mena Massoud ('Aladdin,' "Hotel for the Holidays"), Christina Hendricks ('Mad Men,' 'Good American Family'), and Cary Elwes ('Saw,' 'Mission Impossible') are set to star in 'The American Spring.' Los Angeles-based Syrian director and producer Sam Kadi will direct the political thriller. Set against a backdrop of deep national division, 'The American Spring' follows a Massachusetts governor named Dominic Nelson whose presidential hopes fade amid a polarized primary race. The official synopsis for the film reads: 'Choosing to break from the two-party system, Nelson launches an Independent campaign with an unorthodox campaign manager: Fred Hoffman, who is a controversial political scientist and his childhood friend. As their revolutionary platform and unconventional plan to save America ignite fierce debate across the country, a shocking turn of events thrusts Hoffman to the forefront of the campaign, pushing both men into a high-stakes political storm that could either save the nation or tear it apart." 'This project is deeply personal — a dream I've carried with me for over ten years. It was ahead of its time back then, but now, its moment has come,' said Kadi, who is known for politically charged works such as documentary 'Little Gandhi,' about the life and death of young Syrian peace activist Ghiyath Matar, and Oscar-shortlisted animated film 'Lamya's Poem,' which he produced. 'It's a very topical film, but most importantly, it presents a nonpartisan vision that serves all of us,' he added. 'American Spring' is being produced by Kim Zubick ('The Zookeeper's Wife,' Togo') and Kadi, who are launching pre-sales in Cannes. Executive producers include Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Adam Harris Engelhard, and Stephen Mastrocola of Buffalo 8. Production is slated to begin later this year. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War

Australia's Kadi luggage is big on style & performance, & now even bigger on value

Colleague Megan French is in England on a long trip, and she has with her new Kadi soft luggage. Kadi is an Australian-owned and designed brand that launched in 2023. A spokesperson explains that it was 'born from the need for affordable luggage that doesn't compromise on quality or design'. Colours are interesting, unusual and pastel, from charcoal to pebble, olive to a midnight dusk blue. The durable shells of the hard cases are made from premium 100 per cent German polycarbonate. And there is currently a sale on the website. + For example, in their soft shell luggage, the medium Cloud check-in in charcoal is reduced from $329 to $297.40. Holding 81 litres, it weighs just 3.2kg and has a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. + The large Cloud check-in, which Megan is using, is reduced from $379 to $227.40. It has a whopping 120-litre capacity yet weighs just 3.9kg. + The 40-litre Cloud Carry-on weighs 2.6kg — a distinct advantage with carry-on limits. It is reduced from $279 to $167.40. + Kadi also has an impressive range of hard-shell cases. I particularly like their Carry-On Business in olive. Currently reduced from $399 to $239.40, is cleverly designed, right down to frosted PVC pockets and a quick-access front pocket for tech. With a 38-litre capacity, it weighs 3.5kg. + There is also a Carry-On Leisure version of the hard-shell cases. They are currently reduced from $325 to $195. + Kadi also has weekender bags, pretty 33-litre over-shoulder and handle bags in subtle shades. They have a firm base, so they sit upright when you put them down. + There are also colourful bags designed for kids. + From the tough shell material through to durable spinner wheels and water-resistant zippers, Kadi's product developers have worked to turn each Kadi piece into a 'trusted companion'. Editor's note Megan French will bring us a full, on-the-road report on her Kadi case in a future edition of Travel.

Meghan made a sly dig at Kate in her new podcast – it obviously hit a nerve, royal expert claims

Earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex launched her brand-new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, two-and-a-half years since she last attempted to set the podcast stage alight with her Spotify series Archetypes. But perhaps ''the only interesting thing'' mentioned in the podcast, The Sun's Matt Wilkinson said, was the way California-based duchess referred to Kadi. In the episode, titled Building Your Brand Brick by Brick, Meghan said that when Kadi turns up at their £12million Montecito mansion, Archie and Lilibet call her Auntie Katie. Entrepreneur Kadi candidly shared on the podcast: 'Maybe I'll try a stint in Europe. 'I'm just a really naturally curious person, and I was not blessed with kids. 'I'm still holding out hope I might be a step mum or, you know, one day, but for right now, I'm just super aunt.' Meghan cut in: 'I mean, our kids love Auntie Kadi. 'It's our favourite when they run out to the car saying 'Kadi'.' Kadi laughed: 'I know I feel like I look for them first!' The two siblings also call Meghan's close pal and tennis legend Serena Williams "auntie." The secret 'auntie' Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's kids Archie & Lilibet adore - as Duchess reveals she's their 'favourite' The duchess previously posted footage of her daughter with "auntie" Serena Williams as they played a game of Candy Land. The clip also featured Bill Withers' Lovely Day, with the caption: "When the aunties come to celebrate... and to play! Love you @serenawilliams." Royal Reporter Bronte Coy told Matt Wilkinson: ''Yes, she did say that on there. ''It was, for context, off the back of Katie saying that she was sad not to have been blessed with children herself - so she thought that was obviously a personal spot for her, and she said 'I'll just be the cool auntie'.'' But while it may seem like an innocent comment, Bronte explained how the remark was a sly dig at Catherine, the Princess of Wales, 43. She said: ''[Meghan] calling her aunt Katie is obviously going to hit a nerve because the kids do have aunties and Aunt Catherine over in Britain that I don't think that they have any sort of relationship with. Family strains During the podcast Meghan made no reference to the kids' real auntie, Princess Kate. The Princess of Wales, 43, first met Archie a week after his birth in May 2019 with Prince William. However, it is not known if Kate has met Princess Lilibet, who was born in 2021 in California. Shortly after the birth, Kate said: 'I can't wait to meet her. We haven't met her yet. I hope that will be soon.' It is thought that Archie and Lilibet also have no relationship with women on Meghan's side who could be aunts, including her half-sister Samantha Markle.
