Waived Valkyries' breakout rookie lands pro basketball contract
The post Waived Valkyries' breakout rookie lands pro basketball contract appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Golden State Valkyries drew a little bit of criticism from fans when they did not keep any of their 2025 WNBA Draft picks on the final roster for the regular season. It should be mentioned though that only their second and third round picks were in training camp as No. 5 overall pick Justė Jocytė was selected as a draft-and-stash. One of the team's picks has landed a new opportunity though. Kaitlyn Chen, who was cut in camp, recently signed a new pro basketball contract. Advertisement The Valkyries opted to cut Kaitlyn Chen before the start of the regular season, but she landed a new pro basketball contract, joining the 3×3 Basketball Association, as per WNBA reporter Roberta F. Rodrigues. Chen will join the association in time for the upcoming Spokane 3×3 Hoopfest taking place in late June. The winner of that tournament will in line for Team USA FIBA 3×3 competitions. Chen was not the only draft pick that the Valkyries cut in training camp. The team drew bewilderment from fans with the decision to cut former Maryland star Shyanne Sellers. Sellers was picked up on waivers by the Atlanta Dream, but was cut again after an underwhelming preseason. Prior to being drafted by the Valkyries, Chen played out her final season of college basketball eligibility with UConn, winning a championship alongside Paige Bueckers in the starting backcourt. She played the first four seasons of her college basketball career in the Ivy League with Princeton. In the early goings of the regular season, the Valkyries have surprised some people. They currently stand at 2-3 and in fifth place in the Western Conference; eighth overall. The team was 2-1 prior to their recent East Coast road trip for two consecutive games against the defending champion New York Liberty. This is the inaugural season for the Valkyries, the first WNBA expansion franchise since the Dream in 2008. Next season, the league will expand once again with two more franchises in the Toronto Tempo and a yet to be named Portland team. The addition of the Valkyries and the other two teams bring a total of 36 additional roster spots to the WNBA.

Paige Bueckers' Former Teammate Sends Message After Career Move
Paige Bueckers' Former Teammate Sends Message After Career Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning the women's NCAA championship with Paige Bueckers at UConn roughly two months ago, Kaitlyn Chen dreamed of making it as a player in the WNBA. Advertisement She was taken with the No. 30 overall pick in the third round of April's draft by the expansion Golden State Valkyries, but she was cut on May 14 just prior to the start of the regular season. But her dream of playing pro basketball isn't necessarily over. Chen announced on X on Tuesday that she has joined 3XBA, a three-on-three women's FIBA pro basketball league that also focuses on the development of its players. She let it be known that she will be taking part in Spokane Hoopfest as part of 3XBA later this month. "Hey Hoopfest fans, this is Kaitlyn," she said. "I can't wait for 3XBA Spokane." Chen grew up in the greater Los Angeles area, where she became the all-time leader in points, assists and rebounds at Flintridge Preparatory School. As a junior and senior, she was named the All-Area Player of the Year by Pasadena Star-News, a local media outlet in the San Gabriel Valley section of the Southland. Advertisement She spent her first three seasons of college basketball at Princeton before transferring to UConn for the 2024-25 season. The 5-foot-9 guard was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2023 as a sophomore, when she averaged 16.2 points per game. Chen became the first Taiwanese woman to win an NCAA championship, and just weeks later, she was the first to be drafted into the WNBA and play in a WNBA preseason game. Audi Driver Hits Woman's Car On the Highway and Flees. Now Her Realtor Friend Is Offering a Discount to Anyone Who Finds Them
A New York woman went viral on TikTok after publicly defending her friend, who she said was recently involved in a hit-and-run with an Audi driver. Kaitlyn Chen (@chenkaitlyn), who's been documenting her 'realty journey' in New York and Long Island, shared footage of what appeared to be her friend just moments after a car accident. The clip quickly took off online. The incident happened at 12:43pm ET on May 30 on the Belt Parkway before Exit 7, on the Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. In the short video, Chen's friend begins recording right after being hit. Instead of pulling over to exchange info, the other driver appears to flee the scene. 'This dude just hit my car,' she said in the video. 'He's trying to run away.' Dashcam footage shows the car—a dark green Audi RS5 with no license plates and tinted front windows—driving off. Chen said her friend was never able to identify the driver, but she's now crowdsourcing help. 'Help my homegirl identify this car,' she wrote in the caption. 'Lots of good karma coming your way.' Chen even offered a reward: A discount on buying or selling a home through her services. But as of Thursday, no leads. The culprit is still unknown. Meanwhile, Chen's video has racked up more than 9.8 million views. Hit-and-Run Drivers Can Be Hard to Find Tracking down a hit-and-run driver isn't easy, especially when the car has no front or back plates and the dashcam footage doesn't clearly show the driver's face, like in the case of Chen's friend. Still, there are ways to strengthen your case beyond just asking TikTok for help. According to Houston-based law firm Gibson Hill Personal Injury , the first step is always to file a police report. From there, gather any available witness statements and surveillance footage, if applicable. Chen's friend was on the highway, so that wasn't an option—but those steps can still be crucial in other situations. The firm also recommends checking the scene for car debris, which could help identify the vehicle. And if you have the resources, hiring a personal injury attorney could make a real difference, as they can investigate on your behalf and help push an insurance claim forward. Even if the driver can't be identified, insurance companies will often cover injuries and damages under uninsured motorist policies. And in rare cases, someone might come forward—an eyewitness who recognizes the car or even the driver. So, it looks like Chen's friend did everything right. But given how notoriously tough these cases are to crack, it's still unclear if even a viral TikTok will be enough to track down the culprit. Viewers Think It's a Lost Cause Most commenters on Chen's video pointed out the obvious: The driver had clearly gotten away, and the chances of tracking them down seemed slim. 'He didn't try running away, he got away,' one viewer said. 'No plate, too? Y'all not finding bro,' another wrote. 'Yeah, you'll never get them,' a third commenter added. Others flagged a bigger issue: The car appeared to be wrapped—a vinyl film covering the original paint. That might look sleek, but it also makes the car harder to identify, complicating any efforts to track it down. 'I would unwrap it as soon as I got home,' one TikToker quipped. A second viewer echoed this sentiment, writing, 'Car is going back to the wrap shop tomorrow!' 'A wrapped RS5 in New York [with] no plates,' a third viewer noted. 'You 100-percent might as well just take the car to a shop because you aren't finding him and insurance is just gonna raise ya rates, so just take the loss and pay out of pocket.' On Tuesday, Chen replied to a commenter to say that the person TikTok sleuths had flagged wasn't the culprit. But she hasn't posted a broader update on whether her friend has found the driver. Motor1 has reached out to Chen via a TikTok comment. Chen and Fudd score 17 points each as No. 6 UConn defeats DePaul 84-58
CHICAGO (AP) — Kaitlyn Chen scored 17 points to match her season high, Azzi Fudd also had 17 and No. 6 UConn rolled past DePaul 84-58 on Wednesday night for its tenth straight win and 31st in a row in Big East regular-season play. Freshman Sarah Strong scored 11 points and pulled in eight rebounds. The Huskies (20-2, 11-0) used 10-0 and 18-2 runs in the third quarter to pull away. Leading scorer Paige Bueckers, who entered averaging 19.6 points per game, was held to eight matching her season low. The redshirt senior was able to rest starting in the third quarter as UConn as coach Geno Auriemma turned to his bench. Jorie Allen and Taylor Johnson-Matthews each scored 19 for DePaul (11-12, 6-4). The crowd of 8,305 at the 10,387 seat Wintrust Arena set an attendance record for a Blue Demon's women's game, according to interim coach Jill Pizzotti. UConn has won 26 straight against the Blue Demons and is 26-1 all-time against them. DePaul's only win over the Huskies came in their first game, in December 1983. Takeaways UConn: The Huskies depth allowed them to take charge. Strong's dominant defensive and physical play — along with some timely baskets — in the first half helped set a tone. DePaul: The Blue Demons battled early, but couldn't match the size and strength of the Huskies. DePaul was coming off a 76-67 overtime win at Butler on Sunday when it roared back from an 11-point deficit. Key moment DePaul outscored UConn 8-1 over a five-minute span late in the first and early in the second quarter and it closed to 23-20. Then the Huskies finished the second quarter with a 17-4 surge. Key stat The Huskies shot 46.2% (30 for 65), but shot 54.5% on 3-pointers (12 for 22). Chen was 3 for 3 beyond the arc and Fudd was 4 for 7. Up next Uconn hosts Butler on Sunday.
