WNBA player stuns fans with comment on teammate's body
Among those up-and-coming stars is rookie Kaitlyn Chen, who is fresh off winning a national title at UConn and played her way back into the WNBA after initially being waived.
The Valkyries drafted her 30th overall in the third round, but waived her in May. However, her strong play in a 3x3 league led to a contract with the team and turned her into a key rotation piece.
All the time she's getting is at least one testament to her hard work. Another could be the shape she's in, which attracted praise and attention from her own teammate, Kate Martin.
The Valkyries posted a video of Chen arriving before a contest against the Indiana Fever earlier this week and Martin sounded off in the comments.
'Your quads go so hard @kaitlyn.chen,' Martin wrote underneath the post.
Chen appeared to jokingly fight the praise in response, saying, '@katemartin how do you dislike a comment'.
Chen played a role in Golden State's victory over the Fever - shooting 2-of-3 and logging five points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals in 14 minutes of action.
Martin did a decent job for herself as well, dropping five points and two rebounds in 19 minutes as she was able to beat her fellow former Iowa Hawkeye guard Caitlin Clark in a 80-61 victory earlier in the week.
The Valkyries are the surprise of the league this year. While many projected they'd struggle in their first season, the Valkyries are in line for a playoff spot.
At the time of publishing, Golden State is sitting sixth in the WNBA's standings and fourth in the Western Conference standings.

Two-way star Hunter makes solid Jaguars debut
Results do not mean too much, but NFL pre-season games do offer the first set of clues about how the new season will go league's major stars will not play too often in the opening games, but some top rookies have already made good first impressions as competition for starting places hots of the big talking points revolve around the quarterbacks, but there is also the NFL's 'unicorn' and a new Patrick Mahomes bodyguard worth discussing. Two-way Travis makes Jaguars debut Travis Hunter signalled his intention to play both offence and defence as he made his debut working as a receiver and cornerback for the Jacksonville second overall pick of this year's NFL Draft admitted he "was a little nervous at first" as he started one of the most high-profile debut seasons in the had two catches for nine yards in his 10 plays as a receiver before switching and playing eight snaps on head coach Liam Coen labelled it a "solid" start and plans to give Hunter more defensive work next week - with the team intent on deploying their talented rookie on both sides of the ball. Talking point - can Sanders earn starting spot? Shedeur Sanders made an eye-catching debut for the Cleveland Browns that raised suggestions he has a chance to be the team's starting quarterback this season. It would be quite the turnaround after his high-profile draft slide down to 144th overall - but beyond the hype he still faces an uphill battle, with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett ahead of him along with another rookie in Dillon did not field their starters against the Carolina Panthers and Sanders has not had any practice time with the first team - only getting a start on Friday because of injuries to Pickett and he made the most of his opportunity and despite head coach Kevin Stefanski insisting he was "in evaluation mode" and "not diving into a quarterback competition", Sanders has given him a selection headache. Have Chiefs found the man to protect Mahomes? Patrick Mahomes threw just one pass for one yard in his first outing since being on the losing side in the Super Bowl - but it was for a touchdown in his brief 48-second seasonal of more interest was the impressive debut of rookie left tackle Josh is the man the Kansas City Chiefs hope can solve the problem they had all last season - protecting their star Chiefs used four left tackles last year but their issue keeping Mahomes upright ultimately cost them a Super Bowl three-peat as he was sacked six times and manhandled by the Philadelphia showed enough in his first 11 snaps action to suggest he could be the answer to their problems. Rookie quarterback watch - Dart on target for Giants Jaxson Dart may just be Russell Wilson's back-up but his exciting debut has excited New York Giants fans singing his threw for 154 yards and a touchdown and ran for 28 yards in a poised and balanced outing - against some Buffalo Bills starters - that probably just topped Sanders for the best performance by a rookie one overall pick Cam Ward played just two series for the Tennessee Titans but his second was an 11-play touchdown drive where he showed promising chemistry with top receiver Calvin pick Tyler Shough replaced Spencer Rattler in the second half of the New Orleans Saints' 27-13 defeat by the Los Angeles Chargers and had a 54-yard touchdown pass and a 'pick six' in an up-and-down not technically a rookie, JJ McCarthy will play his first season with the Minnesota Vikings after a knee injury cost him the entire campaign last had a tear in his eye before his first game in 364 days, where he led one solid 13-play drive in what could be his only action before the NFL season opener. A comedy of errors for the Cowboys A messy first Dallas Cowboys game for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer culminated with even Pro Bowl wide receiver CeeDee Lamb getting a flag - despite not even being on the was on the sidelines for the defeat against the Los Angeles Rams but strayed almost onto the field and was hit by an official racing down the led to Lamb not only taking a big hit but also Dallas getting one of 11 flags in the game, which cost them 83 yards and angered the new man in charge."I hope the guy's OK. But we have to be better than that," Schottenheimer said. "CeeDee knows better. We know better."Dallas, who has star defender Micah Parsons watching on despite requesting a trade away from the team, will hope that comedy of errors is not a sign of things to come this season. A'ja Wilson comes up big for streaking Aces against Sun
August 11 - A'ja Wilson's 32 points and career high-matching 20 rebounds helped the Las Vegas Aces to their fourth straight win with Sunday's 94-86 defeat of the visiting Connecticut Sun. Las Vegas (18-14) gave up 31 first-quarter points, then another 14 less than five minutes through the second period to fall behind 45-33. But the Aces regrouped, holding Connecticut (5-25) without a point for the next 5:45 during a 12-0 run to draw the score even by halftime. The defensive tenacity carried over into the second half. Las Vegas surrendered as many points in the second and third quarters combined as it allowed in the opening period, in the process flipping the early, double-digit-point deficit into a double-digit-point lead by the late third. A three-time league Most Valuable Player including last season, Wilson posted her third double-double in the last four games and third consecutive outing with at least 27 points. With 36 seconds remaining in the game, she grabbed her 20th board to match the personal record she established on July 10, 2024 at Seattle. Her Las Vegas teammates led the home crowd in applause for the milestone. Wilson is the first player in WNBA history to record 30-plus points and 20-plus rebounds in a game. Wilson's heroics bolstered the Aces on a day when three of the five starters failed to score more than seven points. Jackie Young was the exception with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. Young also dished six assists to match Chelsea Gray's game-high total. Jewell Loyd and Dana Evans helped pick up some of the offensive slack with 12 and 10 points off the bench. Marina Mabrey led Connecticut with 22 points, 13 of which fueled the Sun's 31-point first quarter. She shot 5 of 13 from 3-point range on the night. Leila Lacan added 13 points and Saniya Rivers came off the bench for 17 points, the second-highest output of her rookie season. Tina Charles finished with eight points, ending a run of eight straight games scoring in double-figures. The loss dropped Connecticut to 0-3 on its current road swing, which concludes on Monday in San Francisco against Golden State. --Field Level Media

Justin Rose earns Masters redemption with play-off victory at FedEx St Jude Championship
Justin Rose produced a sensational finish at the FedEx St Jude Championship with six birdies in his last final eight holes to win a play-off against US Open champion JJ Spaun. The Englishman, who at 45 became the oldest European to win on the PGA Tour in the modern era, looked out of it after a bogey at the 12th dropped him to 12 under, two off the pace with Tommy Fleetwood, world No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Spaun ahead of him. But four birdies from the 14th catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard and he narrowly missed a 13-ft putt at the last to win outright. He produced two more birdies in three play-off holes – one a clutch effort after Spaun had holed from distance – with the second from 14ft after Spaun was half that distance away proving decisive as his opponent's attempt to extend the contest raced past. 'That was an amazing last 90 minutes. I never stopped believing,' Rose said in his post-round interview. 'I played unbelievable golf coming down the stretch and had so much fun with it. JJ dropped a bomb on me (at the second extra hole), it was a lot of fun. 'When I bring my best I know I'm good enough to play against the best players in the world. This is going to be a fun one for us to celebrate.' The play-off was packed with drama from the start as Rose – who barely cleared the lake with his drive – gave himself an identical 13-foot putt to the one he missed to win the tournament, but it burned the edge of the cup. Playing the hole again, Rose hit to eight feet but Spaun recreated his US Open final green heroics with a monster birdie, forcing the Englishman to hold his nerve. The hole location was re-cut for the third attempt to avoid shadows and Spaun duly hit it to seven feet but Rose, who had lost his previous four play-offs including, like Spaun, to Rory McIlroy this year, dramatically turned the tables by holing his 14ft birdie and Spaun fired past. Rose's joy meant more heartbreak for Fleetwood, who blew another chance to break his PGA Tour duck at the 162nd attempt with a poor finish. The Ryder Cup team-mates had holidayed together in Portugal last week, but failed to spark each other into life in the final group. Fleetwood did not make a birdie until holing his longest putt of the week from 33ft at the 12th to put him back in a share of the lead. Birdies at the 13th and 15th edged him two in front on 16 under, but as he was escaping with a par after chipping across and off the green with his third at the 16th, Spaun was tying the lead with a birdie at 17. Fleetwood's weak attempt at a seven-foot par putt at the 17th never threatened and needing a birdie at the last just to make a play-off, he drove into a bunker and missed the green with his approach. 'I'm obviously going to be disappointed. There's a lot of positives to take but it won't feel like that right now,' said Fleetwood, whose 29th top-five PGA Tour finish is 11 more than any other player without a win over the last 40 years. 'I'm just going to look at what I feel like I could have done and how close it was.' Scheffler, without his regular caddie Ted Scott who returned home due to a family emergency, finished a shot outside the play-off after two birdies in his final three holes. Jordan Spieth's Ryder Cup hopes were dealt a blow after he dropped out of the top 50 of FedEx Cup rankings and missed the cut for next week's penultimate event after dumping his approach to the last into the water, ending his season and, at 27th in the United States' rankings, likely his Ryder Cup hopes.
