Arambakkam sexual assault: After two weeks of search, accused arrested

After conducting searches at several places in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh border areas for more than two weeks, the Police on Saturday (July 26, 2025) said they have arrested the lone accused, who is from Assam, in sexual assault on a minor girl in Tiruvallur district. On July 12, a minor girl was abducted and raped by an unknown male in a mango grove in Arambakkam, Thiruvallur District, while she was returning from school. The child was under the care of her grandmother in Arambakkam since her parents live in the bordering Andhra Pradesh. Later, she was taken to hospital and a case was registered in this regard in Arambakkam Police Station under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)Act. Political parties, including AIADMK, BJP and others, staged protests demanding justice and police to nab the accused quickly. Special teams were formed by Inspector General of Police, North Asra Garg. The teams fanned to the border areas of Andhra Pradesh and railway stations in both states and worked hard on various clues to crack the case. Releasing pictures and CCTV footage of the accused involved in sexual assault on the girl, the police announced a reward of ₹5 lakh for the person who would give information on the accused. On Friday (July 26, 2025), a special team of police nabbed the accused, who was working at a Dhaba in Sullurpeta, Andhra Pradesh, nearly 25 kilometres away from Arambakkam. He was brought to Kavaraipettai police station on Friday night and interrogated until Saturday. At the end of interrogation, Inspector General of Police, North Asra Garg said the accused Kale Bishwakarma alias Raju Biswakarma, a resident of Tinsukia, Assam, aged 35 years, involved in the Arambakkam Police station case has been arrested and is being produced before the court for appropriate legal action. Sources added that the man was working at a restaurant in Delhi. After the demise of his parents and after his wife estranged, he shifted to Sullurpeta, where he was working at a dhaba. During weekly holidays, he frequently travels up to Chennai Central Railway station by EMU train and return besides consuming liquor. On the day of occurrence, he had gone to the Central Railway station and on return, he got down at Arambakkam. He spotted the girl who was walking alone in the road, and no one was in the vicinity. He took the child despite resistance and committed the offence. Sources also added that he came to know that the police were looking for him a day before he was caught. He was planning to escape to Assam. During interrogation, he confessed the crime. He was subjected to medical examination and taken to a court for remand.

CHENNAI: The Tiruvallur district police on Saturday identified the accused in the abduction and rape of a 10-year-old girl near Gummidipoondi in the district and said that he has been remanded to judicial custody. The Arambakkam police has arrested Kale Bishwakarma alias Raju Biswakarma (35) of Tinsukia in Assam in the case, police sources said on Saturday. He had been taken into custody on Friday from Sullurpeta railway station in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, a few km from the inter-state border with Tamil Nadu. According to sources, Bishwakarma worked at a local eatery in the locality. He was identified by the cops as he was wearing the same clothes seen in the CCTV footage collected by them in relation to the crime. The case pertains to the alleged abduction and rape of the girl on July 12 when she was returning to her grandmother's home after school near Gummidipoondi. The accused allegedly gagged and took her to a deserted place where she was raped. Three special teams each headed by a DSP had been formed under the direct supervision of the Tiruvallur superintendent of police (SP). The cops had also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information on the suspect.
