Tiruvallur child rape accused identified by cops, remanded to judicial custody
The Arambakkam police has arrested Kale Bishwakarma alias Raju Biswakarma (35) of Tinsukia in Assam in the case, police sources said on Saturday.
He had been taken into custody on Friday from Sullurpeta railway station in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, a few km from the inter-state border with Tamil Nadu. According to sources, Bishwakarma worked at a local eatery in the locality. He was identified by the cops as he was wearing the same clothes seen in the CCTV footage collected by them in relation to the crime.
The case pertains to the alleged abduction and rape of the girl on July 12 when she was returning to her grandmother's home after school near Gummidipoondi.
The accused allegedly gagged and took her to a deserted place where she was raped. Three special teams each headed by a DSP had been formed under the direct supervision of the Tiruvallur superintendent of police (SP). The cops had also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information on the suspect.

Bhubaneswar: Police in Odisha's Bolangir district on Monday rescued a 28-day-old baby girl who was allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 20,000 due to extreme poverty, officials said. Police rescued the infant from the house of a couple at Paikamal in neighbouring Bargarh district and handed it over to the child welfare committee (CWC), Titlagarh sub-divisional police officer Kalyan Behera told PTI over the phone. She, however, said no one was detained or arrested in the case as there had been no formal complaint. Bolangir district CWC in-charge chairperson Lina Babu confirmed that the infant was rescued from the house of a couple at Paikmal. "We have not started an inquiry into the matter as the infant's rescue was our priority. During the day, we will launch a probe and lodge a police," she said. According to sources, the alleged incident of child sale came to light on Sunday from Bagdera village under Bhaleigaon Panchayat in Titilagarh sub-division. A poverty-stricken couple, identified as Nila and Kanak Rana, has been accused of selling their newborn daughter for Rs 20,000, police said. However, the Paikmal couple denied allegations of purchasing the child, but claimed that they brought the baby keeping in view her biological parents' poverty. Officials said Nila and Kanak are both remarried. Nila has three daughters from his first wife, while Kanak has one daughter from her previous marriage. Citing financial distress, the Rana couple allegedly handed over the newborn to the other family. "We have not sold her. We gave the baby for her better upbringing, not for money," Nila Rana told the CWC. In November 2024, police and CWC had rescued a newborn that was allegedly sold by her mother after her birth to a private hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The incident was reported from Lathor area in Bolangir district.

6-Year-Old Killed, Teacher Injured After Slab Holding School Gate Collapses In Rajasthan
Jaipur: A six-year-old student was killed and a teacher injured when a pillar of the main gate of a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on Monday, just days after a portion of a state-run school caved in leaving seven children dead in Jhalawar district. Officials said the incident occurred in a government school building in the Ramgarh area when the students were leaving for their homes. "One child has died in the incident," Superintendent of Police (Jaisalmer) Abhishek Shivhare told PTI. Another official said that a pillar of the main gate collapsed and the student, Arbaz Khan, died on the spot. A teacher, Ashok Kumar Soni, was injured and admitted to the district hospital. Angry family members of the victim sat on a dharna outside the school with the body of the child. "Talks with the family members are going on," the official said. He said that prima facie, the portion collapsed due to heavy winds. Reacting to the incident, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the chief minister should take immediate steps so that no other child loses their life in such incidents. "The death of an innocent student due to the collapse of the school gate in Jaisalmer is very sad. After the Jhalawar tragedy, the death of a student in this manner should be a matter of concern for the state government," the Congress leader said. "It is the rainy season. I request the chief minister to take immediate steps so that no other innocent child loses their life. The state government had on Sunday announced a series of urgent measures, including closure and demolition of unsafe school buildings, GIS-mapping of all vulnerable structures, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor structural safety. School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, who chaired an emergency meeting with senior officials from both the departments, had said a proposal of Rs 150 crore under the disaster management fund has been prepared for repair works in 7,500 schools across 170 tehsils, officials said. The move came amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of school infrastructure, especially during the monsoon season in southeastern Rajasthan. Dilawar had said a statewide survey is being conducted by the district collectors to identify the dilapidated school buildings.

Pahalgam Mastermind Suleiman Shah Was Ex Commando Of Pak Army's Elite Unit
After three months and six days, the security forces hunted down the mastermind of a terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were shot dead in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22. The security forces avenged the attack by killing Hashim Musa, alias Suleiman Shah, in an encounter near Srinagar along with two terrorists today. Suleiman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, is a former commando of the Pakistan Army's elite unit - Special Service Group (SSG). He later joined UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed's LeT to carry out terror activities, sources told NDTV. In a joint operation of the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Operation Mahadev was launched earlier this morning to track, corner and hunt down the terrorists. The killing of Suleiman in the operation is being viewed as a major success for the forces. After the Pahalgam attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for anyone providing information about Suleiman. Suleiman infiltrated India in September 2023 and started terror operations in South Kashmir. In October 2024, he led an attack in which seven civilians were killed when terrorists opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company who were building a tunnel. He was also involved in an attack in Baramulla in which four security personnel were killed in action. Sources in security agencies told NDTV that he was involved in at least six terrorist attacks. After the Pahalgam attack, a house-to-house search was carried out by security forces to track Hashim Musa/Suleiman Shah. Operation Mahadev All the terrorists, it is learnt, were "high-value" targets and foreign nationals. According to reports, the security forces acted on an intelligence input and launched the operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. The visuals show multiple guns in the hideout located deep inside a forest area. According to sources, Carbine and AK-47 rifles, 17 rifle grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered during the encounter. Security forces suspect that the terrorists were planning a big action in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces were keeping a physical and electronic surveillance. The forces got a clue about a Chinese ultra radio communication being active, after which the operation was carried out. The Lashkar-e-Taiba uses the Chinese radio for encrypted messages, and in 2016, it was also called WY SMS. Operation Sindoor On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, India carried out precision strikes around 1 am on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack. India struck bases in Pakistan and PoK from where terrorist attacks were being planned and executed. Nine sites were targeted in the strikes under the codename 'Operation Sindoor' - an ode to the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack. India's retaliatory strike was designed to dismantle key logistical, operational, and training infrastructure used by LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen, and other affiliated networks. Each of the nine sites selected for the operation had a history of association with major terror plots and infiltration attempts directed at India. One of the sites, Muridke, is the headquarters of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is run by Hafiz Saeed, and Bahalwapur in Pakistan's Punjab province is the base of Jaish-e-Mohammad, an outfit run by Masood Azhar.
