OPEN// PM: Egypt's role in global entrepreneurship community spotlighted
CAIRO, June 2 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly underscored the pivotal role played by the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship in developing a well-structured approach toward startups and entrepreneurs based on the best global experiments. The move aims to achieve sustainable economic growth and spotlight Egypt's role as a key player in the global entrepreneurship community in order to enhance entrepreneurs' confidence and attract more investors and investments into the Egyptian market, he added. The premier's remarks came while chairing a meeting of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship on Monday. The meeting was attended by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade along with a number of senior state officials. During the meeting, Mashat, presented a report highlighting positive indicators in many startups in Egypt. She noted significant progress in the first five months of this year, with startups attracting approximately $228 million in funding through 16 deals—11 of which totaled $156 million. This marks a 130% increase, compared to the same period in 2024. The minister also outlined the key points of Egypt's forthcoming Startup Charter, which will be launched soon. The Charter aims to build trust between startups and the government by clearly committing to the system's priorities as well as coordinating efforts by different government bodies to create a more efficient, transparent, and innovation-friendly environment in a move meant to serve entrepreneurship, she added. Egypt receives 1st air-conditioned train for Cairo Metro Line 1 from France's Alstom - Urban & Transport
Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir announced Thursday the arrival of the first air-conditioned train for Cairo Metro Line 1 at Alexandria Port, under a financing agreement between Egypt and France to manufacture and supply 55 air-conditioned trains for that line. In 2022, Egypt signed a 776.9 million euro financing agreement with France to fund French company Alstom's manufacturing and supply of 55 air-conditioned trains for Cairo Metro Line 1, including eight years of maintenance. A ministry statement indicated that the deal is funded through concessional financing from the French government under a joint roadmap with France's Ministry of Economy and Finance. Minister El-Wazir stated that the project aims to handle rising passenger demand on Metro Line 1 following the planned completion of the five-line metro network and the Line 1 extension from New Marg to Shibin El-Qanatir. As part of a broader upgrade plan, the ministry commissioned Spain to refurbish 23 existing trains and contracted a local firm to modernize the Torrah workshop. It also partnered with an Egyptian, French, and Japanese alliance to upgrade signalling, communication, control systems, tracks, and electromechanical works. The new trains will include the following features: High-capacity air-conditioning system, Safe passage between cars for passenger comfort, Front-mounted CCTV cameras for centralized track monitoring, LCD screens to display passenger information and for paid advertisements, Screens above the side doors to show the name of the final station before boarding, Designated wheelchair areas with secure fixtures to assist passengers with special needs, Electronic route maps above doors with illuminated lights to guide hearing-impaired passengers. Saudi, Egypt transport ministers discuss enhancing cooperation
RIYADH: Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser met Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir recently in NEOM. During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for developing partnerships in various transportation activities, along with exchanging expertise in infrastructure, port connectivity and facilitating trade exchange, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Egyptian minister's visit included a series of meetings and sessions, along with a meeting with officials in NEOM, where future projects were reviewed, and cooperation opportunities in maritime transport and modern technologies were explored.
