Mercury rises across state, Ahmedabad hottest at 35.2°C
The maximum temperatures across Gujarat rose on Sunday with Ahmedabad recording 35.2 degrees Celsius, the hottest in the state. The South Gujarat districts including Valsad and Navsari recorded heavy rainfall and Saurashtra districts received moderate rainfall, weather agencies said. After Ahmedabad, Surendranagar was the second hottest with 35 degrees Celsius followed by Kandla Airport at 34.6, Vadodara 34.4, Deesa 33.8, Bhavnagar 33.7, Gandhinagar 33.4, Bhuj 33.1, Surat and Kandla Port 33, Naliya 32.5, Rajkot 32.5, Okha 31.9, Porbandar and Keshod 31.6 degrees Celsius. On Sunday between 6 am and 6 pm, Valsad received 102 mm rainfall, Pardi 100 mm, Umbergaon 60 mm and Vapi 51 mm, all in Valsad district. In the state, 39 talukas out of total 251 received rainfall till 6 pm, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said. The IMD has said light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind 30-40 kmph accompanied with light to moderate rain are likely across the state in the coming week.

35 talukas receive rainfall in Gujarat; ‘Yellow Alert' in state till tomorrow
As many as 35 talukas in Gujarat recorded rainfall till 6pm on Tuesday, with Mahuva in Bhavnagar recording 60 mm in barely two hours. As the shear zone along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of west Madhya Pradesh along with a trough from Southeast Rajasthan to North Chhattisgarh across the cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of west Madhya Pradesh, heavy rainfall occurred in parts of Saurashtra, Bharuch and Surat in South Gujarat. South Gujarat had been reeling under scorching heat due to a rise in the temperatures. Monday was cloudy, with a sudden change in the weather during the night as high-speed winds and thunderstorms occurred, followed by rainfall. Dip in temperatures were also recorded after it started raining late on Monday and continued till morning. Many regions were also inundated. As per details received from Surat Municipal Corporation, till Tuesday, Rander Zone received 85 mm of rainfall, Katargam Zone received 67 mm, Varachha A 65 mm, Udhna 55 mm, Central Zone 54 mm, Limbayat 44 mm, Varachha B 39 mm, and Athwa received 36 mm. Besides Mangrol taluka received 42 mm of rainfall, followed by Olpad taluka at 31 mm, Kamrej 30 mm, Umarpada 15 mm, Palsana 10 mm, Bardoli 10 mm and Choryasi at 5 mm. While Valsad district remained dry, Navsari, Tapi and Dangs received moderate rain. According to Fire Department sources in the Surat Municipal Corporation, four incidents of uprooting of trees were reported in Unn, Saiyedpura, Muglisara, and Dabholi. On Tuesday, Hansot, Netrang, Bharuch in Bharuch district recorded 59, 44 and 43 mm of rainfall, respectively. Though the maximum temperatures were recorded below normal, high humidity levels resulted in uncomfortable conditions On Tuesday. The highest maximum temperature of 40.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Deesa followed by 40.6 at Kandla Airport, Bhuj 39.7, Surendranagar 37.3, Ahmedabad 36.4, Gandhinagar 36.2, Rajkot 36.3, Okha 35.6, Kandla Port 35.5, Bhavnagar 35.2, Vadodara 34.8, Porbandar 34.3, Keshod 32.4 and Surat 30 degree Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for Gujarat till Thursday, warning against heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and surface winds at 40-50 kmph. On Wednesday, heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Tapi; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath. On Thursday, heavy rainfall is likely in South Gujarat districts, including Navsari, Valsad, Tapi; in Saurashtra districts, including Amreli and Bhavnagar. Also, light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds at 40-50 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain is expected across the state, both on Wednesday and Thursday. The weather department has predicted a fall by 2-3 degrees in the maximum temperature till May 30 and no large change therafter.

Temperatures in Saurashtra, Kutch likely to hover between 40-45 degree Celsius as heat wave continues
WITH heat wave conditions prevailing in Gujarat, temperatures in Saurashtra and Kutch are likely to hover between 40 and 45 degree Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned. At 44.9 degree Celsius, Rajkot in Saurashtra recorded the highest temperature in the state on Tuesday. Other centres with high temperatures were Ahmedabad at 44.8 degree Celsius, Amreli 44.5, Kandla Airport 44.3, Gandhinagar 44, Surendranagar 43.9, Vadodara 42.4, Keshod 42, Bhuj 41.8, and Deesa 41.6 degree Celsius. According to the weather department forecast, an orange alert with 'severe heat wave conditions' are 'very likely' to prevail in Rajkot till Wednesday morning along with 'heat wave conditions' in Surendranagar, Morbi, Botad and Kutch. Heat wave conditions are likely to continue in Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi and Kutch till Thursday, the forecast added. Further, no substantial change in maximum temperature is expected till Friday, after which a fall by 2-4 degrees is expected in the state, the weather department stated. Also, along with the heat wave, 'discomfort conditions' due to hot and humid air are 'very likely' to prevail over the coastal areas of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch till May 1, Thursday.

At 46.2 degrees, Rajkot records its highest temperature of season; Saurashtra and Kutch districts under heat wave alert
Rajkot recorded its highest temperature of the season as the mercury reached 46.2 degree Celsius — five degrees above normal temperature – on Monday. The temperatures are likely to remain high this week in the region with a heat wave alert for Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi and Kutch till Tuesday, said the weather department. 'No large change in maximum temperature during the next five days; thereafter, fall by 2-3 degree Celsius very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be in the range of 40-45 degree Celsius over Gujarat between April 28 till May 1,' the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its forecast. Kandla Airport too crossed the 45 degree mark with 45.1 degree Celsius temperature followed by Surendranagar at 44.8, Amreli at 44.1, Ahmedabad 44, Gandhinagar 43.2, Bhuj and Bhavnagar at 42.2, Deesa at 41.6, and Vadodara at 40.6 degree Celsius. The weather department has also issued an alert against 'discomfort conditions' due to hot and humid air very likely to prevail over the coastal areas of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch from Monday till May 1 (Thursday).
