Karnataka CM slams BJP's 'Urdu Over Kannada' claim as malicious lie meant to spread communal hatred
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 28 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly refuted BJP allegations that the state government prioritised Urdu over Kannada in funding allocations, terming the claims 'malicious lies' aimed at inciting communal hatred. In a series of tweets, Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of Karnataka of deliberately spreading falsehoods that undermine communal harmony. 'BJP4Karnataka is spreading a malicious lie that our Govt gave more funds to Urdu while neglecting Kannada. This is not just false -- it's a deliberate attempt to incite communal hatred. A national party behaving like internet trolls is deeply shameful,' he wrote on X. The Chief Minister presented detailed figures to counter the BJP's assertions. According to Siddaramaiah, the state government allocated Rs34,438 crore to Primary and Secondary Education and an additional Rs 4,150 crore to Social Welfare and other departments during 20205-26, for a total of Rs 38,688 crore--all meant for Kannada-medium education. Furthermore, Rs 999.3 crore has been set aside for government school infrastructure, benefiting Kannada-based education. The CM Siddaramaiah further said, ' Kannada is not just a language. It is our identity, pride, and mother tongue--and our Government will never tolerate insults to Kannada or Karnataka.' He dismissed the BJP Karnataka's claim that Kannada received only Rs 32 crore as a 'deliberate political distortion' intended to mislead and provoke the public. Chief Minister condemned the BJP for equating language with religion, calling it 'an insult to that language.' The Congress leader highlighted the Karnataka government's efforts to support all native tongues. 'Equating any language with a particular religion is an insult to that language. Our Govt honours all native tongues of Karnataka -- Tulu, Kodava, Konkani, Arebhashe, Byari -- with dedicated academies and an annual grant of Rs 80 lakh each, along with extra funds for cultural programs,' the post added on X. Regarding Kannada, Siddaramaiah outlined the role of the Kannada and Culture Department, which oversees 14 academies, 3 authorities, and 24 literary trusts, all focused on promoting Kannada language and culture, benefiting Kannadigas and the state. Siddaramaiah also took a direct swipe at the BJP's national leadership, suggesting that the misinformation might be part of a 'fake news toolkit' allegedly handed down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged the PM to take action by directing the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit to expose the misinformation and called on the Union Home Ministry to act against BJP Karnataka's social media handles, which he referred to as 'repeat offenders.' He cautioned that such attempts to mislead the public were not confined to Karnataka alone but posed a 'national threat to peace and constitutional order.' (ANI)

CM Siddaramaiah accuses BJP of spreading lies on funds for Urdu
BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of spreading a false narrative that the State Government was neglecting Kannada and giving more funds to Urdu. This is not just far from the truth, it is a deliberate attempt to create communal tension, the Chief Minister said. Siddaramaiah said that for 2025-26, the State Government has allocated Rs 34,438 crore to the Department of Primary and Secondary Education and Rs 4,150 crore to schools under the Social Welfare and other departments. 'A total of Rs 38,688 crore, all meant for Kannada-medium education. In addition, Rs 999.3 crore has been set aside to maintain government schools and improve infrastructure,' he said, adding that all this money supports Kannada education. 'So when BJP claims that only Rs 32 crore is given to Kannada, it is clearly a political lie meant to mislead the people,' Siddaramaiah added. 'As for the Rs 100 crore given under the Minority Welfare Department - this is for upgrading Urdu-medium schools with better classrooms, teachers, textbooks, and infrastructure. This is not just for language, but for the overall improvement of schools that serve a large number of students,' the CM elaborated.

Siddaramaiah defends defamation suit against BJP: ‘Fake news will face real consequences'
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has defended the government's decision to file a defamation suit against the state BJP, saying 'fake news will face real consequences'. He also accused the Opposition of spreading lies through its recent campaign against the state government. Siddaramaiah's defence, in a post on X on Tuesday, came when he debunked BJP claims that the Karnataka Congress government had ignored Kannada and other languages, and allocated Rs 100 crore for Urdu alone. 'Karnataka BJP is spreading a malicious lie that our government gave more funds to Urdu while neglecting Kannada. This is not just false – it's a deliberate attempt to incite communal hatred. A national party behaving like internet trolls is deeply shameful,' he said. .@BJP4Karnataka is spreading a malicious lie that our Govt gave more funds to Urdu while neglecting Kannada. This is not just false — it's a deliberate attempt to incite communal hatred. A national party behaving like internet trolls is deeply shameful. — Siddaramaiah (@siddaramaiah) May 27, 2025 The BJP, in a recent post, had alleged that 'Urdu lover' Siddaramaiah had betrayed Kannadigas by allocating Rs 100 crore for the development of Urdu, while only Rs 32 crore was budgeted for the development of Kannada. This was a part of its recent campaign against the Congress government, when it completed two years in office. Following the same, the Karnataka government on Sunday had issued a notification to file the case, and deputed the secretary of the personnel and administrative reforms department as the complainant. The BJP had condemned the decision, terming it the imposition of another Emergency in the state. Siddaramaiah said that the claim was 'a deliberate political distortion — a lie designed to mislead and provoke'. The government had set aside Rs 38,688 crore for supporting Kannada-medium education and Rs 999.3 crore for government school infrastructure. 'This entire allocation benefits Kannada-based education. So where is the neglect?' he asked. Siddaramaiah clarified that the Rs 100 crore allocation for the minority welfare department is for Urdu-medium schools, which will be used to improve classrooms, teacher appointments, textbooks and school buildings. 'Equating any language with a particular religion is an insult to that language,' Siddaramaiah said. All native tongues of Karnataka — Tulu, Kodava, Konkani, Arebhashe, Byari — have dedicated academies and receive an annual grant of ₹80 lakh each, along with extra funds for cultural programmes, Siddaramaiah added. 'For Kannada, we have a full-fledged Kannada and Culture Department managing 14 Academies, 3 Authorities and 24 Literary Trusts, all working exclusively for Kannada, Kannadigas and Karnataka,' he further noted. 'Kannada is not just a language. It is our identity, pride, and mother tongue — and our government will never tolerate insults to Kannada or Karnataka. To defend this honour, we've filed a defamation suit in the Hon'ble 42nd CJM Court, Bengaluru against Karnataka BJP for spreading lies through their '2 Years of Government Failure' campaign. Fake news will face real consequences,' Siddaramaiah added.

BJP spreading lies that govt. is neglecting Kannada: CM
Chief Minister Siddarmaiah on Tuesday said that the BJP in Karnataka was spreading a false narrative that the Congress government was neglecting Kannada and giving more funds for Urdu. 'This is not just far from the truth but a deliberate attempt to create communal tension. It is unfortunate that a national party is acting like irresponsible Internet trolls and spreading such baseless lies,' he said in a press statement. The Chief Minister said the State government had allocated ₹34,438 crore to the Department of Primary and Secondary Education, ₹4,150 crore to schools under the Social Welfare and other departments during 2025–26. A total of ₹38,688 crore — all meant for Kannada-medium education. In addition, ₹999.30 crore had been set aside to maintain government schools and improve infrastructure. 'All of this money supports Kannada education. So when BJP claims that only ₹32 crore is given to Kannada, it is clearly a political lie meant to mislead the people,' the Chief Minister said. Urdu schools A sum of ₹100 crore was given under the Minority Welfare Department for upgrading Urdu-medium schools with better classrooms, teachers, textbooks, and infrastructure, Mr. Siddaramaiah said. 'Linking a language to a particular caste or religion is disrespectful to that language. Our government respects all languages spoken in Karnataka. That is why we have separate academies for Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, Beary, and Arebhashe — each with ₹80 lakh grants every year, plus extra funding for cultural activities,' the Chief Minister added. The Chief Minister further said, 'For us, Kannada is not just a language — it is our identity, pride, and mother tongue.' The BJP had been misleading the people by saying only ₹32 crore had been given for Kannada, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, adding that 'it is not just a lie but it is a betrayal of Karnataka.'
