Karnataka CM slams BJP's 'Urdu Over Kannada' claim as malicious lie meant to spread communal hatred
In a series of tweets, Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of Karnataka of deliberately spreading falsehoods that undermine communal harmony.

'BJP4Karnataka is spreading a malicious lie that our Govt gave more funds to Urdu while neglecting Kannada. This is not just false -- it's a deliberate attempt to incite communal hatred. A national party behaving like internet trolls is deeply shameful,' he wrote on X.
The Chief Minister presented detailed figures to counter the BJP's assertions. According to Siddaramaiah, the state government allocated Rs34,438 crore to Primary and Secondary Education and an additional Rs 4,150 crore to Social Welfare and other departments during 20205-26, for a total of Rs 38,688 crore--all meant for Kannada-medium education. Furthermore, Rs 999.3 crore has been set aside for government school infrastructure, benefiting Kannada-based education.
The CM Siddaramaiah further said, ' Kannada is not just a language. It is our identity, pride, and mother tongue--and our Government will never tolerate insults to Kannada or Karnataka.' He dismissed the BJP Karnataka's claim that Kannada received only Rs 32 crore as a 'deliberate political distortion' intended to mislead and provoke the public.
Chief Minister condemned the BJP for equating language with religion, calling it 'an insult to that language.' The Congress leader highlighted the Karnataka government's efforts to support all native tongues.
'Equating any language with a particular religion is an insult to that language. Our Govt honours all native tongues of Karnataka -- Tulu, Kodava, Konkani, Arebhashe, Byari -- with dedicated academies and an annual grant of Rs 80 lakh each, along with extra funds for cultural programs,' the post added on X.
Regarding Kannada, Siddaramaiah outlined the role of the Kannada and Culture Department, which oversees 14 academies, 3 authorities, and 24 literary trusts, all focused on promoting Kannada language and culture, benefiting Kannadigas and the state.
Siddaramaiah also took a direct swipe at the BJP's national leadership, suggesting that the misinformation might be part of a 'fake news toolkit' allegedly handed down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged the PM to take action by directing the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit to expose the misinformation and called on the Union Home Ministry to act against BJP Karnataka's social media handles, which he referred to as 'repeat offenders.'
He cautioned that such attempts to mislead the public were not confined to Karnataka alone but posed a 'national threat to peace and constitutional order.' (ANI)

The Supreme Court has reserved its decision on petitions challenging the controversial August 11 order that mandated the complete removal of stray dogs from Delhi and the National Capital Region. However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta defended the order by presenting alarming statistics, revealing that India reports over 3.7 million dog bite incidents annually. Bengal Metro Expansion: PM Modi To Inaugurate 3 New Metro Routes On August 22
Subject to last-minute changes, it is almost final that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in West Bengal on August 22 to attend two programmes, one administrative and one political. The administrative programme will be the inauguration of three new city metro railway routes, namely Noapara to Jai Hind Airport Station, Ruby to Beliaghata, and Esplanade to Sealdah. After the administrative programme, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a political rally organised by the West Bengal unit of the BJP at Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas district. 'Initially, the Dum Dum rally was scheduled on August 20. However, since the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament will continue till August 21, the Prime Minister will be busy in New Delhi till that date. So a fresh proposal was sent from the Bengal unit of the BJP to fix August 22 as the date of the Dum Dum rally. Now, unless there is a last-minute change, the Prime Minister's programmes on August 22 are final,' said a state committee member of the party. Already, the West Bengal unit of the BJP has presented a plan to the party's central leadership for five public meetings by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state during the remaining five months of the calendar year of 2025, which will mean one meeting per month by the Prime Minister during that period. At the same time, the party has plans to organise a mega rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in central Kolkata in January next year, which will also be addressed by the Prime Minister. The state committee insider further said that the locations of the proposed public meeting of the Prime Minister for the remaining months of the current calendar year will be planned in such a manner that major parts of both South Bengal and North Bengal could be covered. As per the plan, the meetings will be planned at locations at junctures of two or more districts. Already, the Prime Minister had addressed two public meetings in West Bengal so far this year, the first being in May at Alipurduar in North Bengal and the second being at the industrial township of Durgapur in West Burdwan district in South Bengal in July. From both meetings, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal government, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the ruling Trinamool Congress on various issues like rampant corruption, rise in crime against women in the state, and frequent communal tension and riot-like situations in minority-dominated pockets in the state.

Election Commission Objects To ‘Vote Chori' Claims, Calls It Blow To Voter Dignity: Sources
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has strongly objected to political leaders using terms such as 'Vote Chori' to allege electoral malpractices. According to sources, the Commission regards such language as an affront to the dignity of Indian voters and an attack on the integrity of election officials. Sources added that the Commission maintains the 'One Person, One Vote' principle has been firmly upheld since the first general elections in 1951–52, and that any claims of duplicate voting must be supported by verifiable evidence. 'If anyone has any proof of any person actually voting twice in any election, it should be shared with ECI with a written Affidavit rather than colouring all the electors of India as 'Chor' without any proof,' ECI sources said. They said the Commission is particularly concerned that such rhetoric not only casts doubt on crores of Indian voters but also undermines the credibility of election officials tasked with overseeing the electoral process. 'Trying to create a false narrative by using dirty phrases like 'Vote Chori' for our electors is not only a direct attack on the crores of Indian electors but also an assault on the integrity of lakhs of election staff,' the EC sources said. The reaction comes in the wake of recent remarks by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who alleged that multiple voters were registered at the same address at a press conference and accused the BJP of 'stealing votes' in connivance with the ECI. The Congress leader claimed to have shared data supporting his charge, but the Commission is insisting on an affidavit. On August 7, Gandhi accused the BJP of adding fake names to voter rolls, citing examples from Karnataka, and claimed a 'massive theft of votes' in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. The Commission has already rejected such allegations as baseless and misleading.
