Have fun & learn: Edu dept organises summer camps for govt school students
Patna: Aiming at enhancing the basic literacy and skills of academically weak govt school students in reading and mathematics, the education dept, along with a city-based non-profit organisation, started summer camps from Monday.
The 'Kamal ka camp', whose primary aim is to provide the students of Classes V and VI with a supportive learning environment to build their fundamental skills, will run until June 20 in one lakh tolas across the state, as per an official. Each camp, being led by a dedicated team of shiksha sewaks, talimi markaz, teacher trainees, scouts and guides, NCC cadets, and other volunteers, will have 10-15 children.
Sunita Kumari, a shiksha sevak working under Akshar Aanchal Yojana, who is leading one such camp on the premises of Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya in Bankipore, said they had 15 students.
"I taught them basic maths like counting, which I tried to explain through games today (Monday). They were enjoying and grasping things at the same time," she said, highlighting the engaging learning approach adopted in the camp.
Teachers of govt schools, however, have not been involved in the camps.
State education minister Sunil Kumar had earlier appealed to the social workers, public representatives, voluntary organisations and meritorious students to contribute and inspire the govt school students to join the summer camp.
