Basin Bites: Gorditas Don Elver serves up scratch-made Mexican comfort in Midland
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – In this week's Basin Bites, we visited Gorditas Don Elver, a restaurant in Midland that serves up authentic gorditas that taste like they're from the motherland.
The restaurant has been serving up its signature comfort food for nearly four years, offering a variety of fillings such as asado, chicharrón, mole, and more. But what truly sets Don Elver's apart? Everything is made from scratch, from the slow-cooked meats to the handmade tortillas.
'We decided to open something a little bit different with comfort food, Mexican comfort food, especially for the hard-working men in the oil field,' says Owner Karen Rodriguez. 'You can find something for the little ones; you can find something for the big ones.'
We had the chance to try four of their popular gorditas: chicharrón verde, chicharrón prensado, mole, and chile verde. Each one brought a unique flavor to the table, and every bite was absolutely delicious.
If you have not visited Don Elver's before, do yourself the favor and make the trip; you won't be disappointed.
You can find Gorditas Don Elver at 210 W Longview Ave, Midland, TX. They are open Monday to Saturday from 7 AM to 3 PM and Sunday from 8 AM to 3 PM.
