Brecon esports team make strong debut in Welsh league
An esports team based in Brecon made a strong debut in the Welsh Esports League (WEL).
The defeated Dragons R.F.C. Esports 13–4 in Counter-Strike 2.
While both teams share the Dragons name, there is no affiliation between them.
Dragons R.F.C. Esports represents Newport-based Dragons R.F.C., the professional rugby club, while represents Brecon and the wider Powys area as the first esports club from the county to enter the league.
The match formed part of the WEL's opening day of CS2 fixtures, with the result quickly drawing attention from the Welsh esports scene.
Karl Balmer, chief gaming officer at S.E.A. Dragons, said: "To secure a result like this on our first day in the league, against a team with the stature of Dragons R.F.C., is massive.
"It's a proud moment for Brecon and for everyone who's backed the project so far.
"We're showing that rural Wales belongs at the top level too."
