Brecon esports team make strong debut in Welsh league
The S.E.A.Dragons defeated Dragons R.F.C. Esports 13–4 in Counter-Strike 2.
While both teams share the Dragons name, there is no affiliation between them.
Dragons R.F.C. Esports represents Newport-based Dragons R.F.C., the professional rugby club, while S.E.A.Dragons represents Brecon and the wider Powys area as the first esports club from the county to enter the league.
The match formed part of the WEL's opening day of CS2 fixtures, with the result quickly drawing attention from the Welsh esports scene.
Karl Balmer, chief gaming officer at S.E.A. Dragons, said: "To secure a result like this on our first day in the league, against a team with the stature of Dragons R.F.C., is massive.
"It's a proud moment for Brecon and for everyone who's backed the project so far.
"We're showing that rural Wales belongs at the top level too."
S.E.A.Dragons now turn their focus to facing teams from across Wales in the coming match weeks, with future CS2 fixtures set to run alongside games in Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, EA FC and Rocket League.

Declan John hopes St Mirren form can earn him a return to Wales squad
Declan John hopes St Mirren form can earn him a return to Wales squad The Saints left wing-back has been impressive under boss Stephen Robinson and he aims to catch the eye of national team manager Craig Bellamy. That's the message from St Mirren wing-back Declan John who is eyeing up a return to the Welsh international set-up. And the 30-year-old is keen to follow in the footsteps of Alex Gogic, Killian Phillips and Jonah Ayunga, who are involved with Cyprus, Republic of Ireland and Kenya, respectively. The last time John was involved in a squad was when Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs called him up in 2019. His final appearance came against Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly. But he hopes that, by the time his career comes to an end, he will have racked up a few more appearances for the Dragons. 'I'd love to get back involved with my country,' he said. 'I've experienced it already. I've got seven caps and it wasn't too long ago that I was in a couple of camps. Hopefully, if I perform well here with St Mirren, I'll be knocking on the door again. 'I'd love to possibly get a few more caps. I'm on seven at the minute and if I could get that to double digits, I'd happy with that. I just concentrate on my football here and then I'll see what happens after that.' It was when John was at Premier League outfit Cardiff City in 2013 that he was handed his first call-up to the national team by boss Chris Coleman. Despite being in and around the squad in the summer of that year, it would be in October that he would make his debut against Macedonia. He added: 'When you're playing for your club, it's your bread and butter. That's what you're doing week in, week out. But, for any player, to get called up to your country is the biggest honour. 'With me being a proud Welshman, hopefully I can try and get back in the squad one day.' John told how, in 2023, Giggs helped him secure a move to Salford City who are owned by the legends from Manchester United's Class of 92. At the time, wife Francesca was pregnant so signing for the Ammies was perfect with the couple living in Manchester. He said: 'It was a bit of a tricky time but it just kind of made sense to go there and play at Salford — and it [connection with Giggs] did help with the move.' And on the current Welsh head coach, former Liverpool and Celtic star Craig Bellamy, John added: 'I think the squad now is really strong. 'The standard is high with players in the Premier League and in the Championship week in, week out. Hopefully they can do well in the World Cup campaign coming up.' Mynydd Isa FC seeks permission for new 50-seater stand
After securing promotion to the Lock Stock Ardal North West League – the third tier of Welsh football – the club was required to apply for a tier three license from the Football Association of Wales. It was successful in its application, on the condition that it met the licensing requirement for providing covered fan seating by December. 'We are delighted to have been awarded a FAW Men's Tier 3 Licence for the 2025/26 season,' said the club in a statement. 'Thank you to our volunteers for their hard work behind the scenes.' It plans to install the 50-seat stand – which will also have space for fans who use wheelchairs to take shelter – to the right-hand corner of the ground as you look out from the dugout. The seating will sit inside a 40ft shipping container modified by Ruthin-based I.T Williams and Co, who specialise in small capacity sports stands – with the base provided by SCR Landscaping Services. Argoed Sports Association will contribute 10% of the cost, with the remaining 90% coming from the FAW and Cymru Football Foundation's Welsh Ground Improvements Fund. The FAW said: 'The club licensing system aims to assist the continual improvement and development of football clubs within Wales. 'Licensing is a transparent process that enables clubs to demonstrate to their stakeholders that they meet quality standards.'
