Inter Kashi set to move CAS again after AIFF upholds appeal of Namdhari, Real Kashmir and Churchill
Thus Churchill would rise to an 'unassailable' 42 points and would be champions irrespective of Kashi's appeal at CAS. The AIFF appeals committee's latest judgement means four points would be deducted from Inter Kashi while two would get added to Churchill's tally and Namdhari would get three. New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) I-League club Inter Kashi is set to knock on the doors of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a second time after the All India Football Federation upheld the appeal of Namdhari FC, Real Kashmir and Churchill Brothers against the Varanasi-based club over re-registration of Mario Barco. Inter Kashi would drop to 37 points while sixth-placed Namdhari would jump to 35 points. Inter Kashi said they would appeal against the judgement at CAS — the highest court to adjudicate sports disputes internationally — where an appeal by club is pending. 'Inter Kashi will now appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. While it is unfortunate that Inter Kashi has to approach CAS yet again for a truly free and fair hearing of the matter, it seems to be the new reality of Indian football,' Inter Kashi said in statement and posted it on X. 'The club fully believes that a free and fair hearing at CAS will bring all relevant facts to the forefront. There will be no further comment on this matter at this time,' the club added in the statement. In its order passed on Saturday, the AIFF appeals committee rejected the league committee's earlier decision, saying that the ruling cannot be used for making an ineligible player (Mario Barco) into a valid player for Inter Kashi. In the provisional standings, Churchill had 40 points from 22 matches, one point more than Kashi, while Real Kashmir were third with 37 points. The I-League officially concluded on March 31, and after weeks of uncertainty, the AIFF appeals committee declared Churchill Brothers as champions on April 19. But Inter Kashi appealed against the ruling at CAS, which had asked the AIFF to not declare Churchill Brothers as I-League champions or organise medal ceremony. The CAS had stayed the AIFF's decision while hearing the appeal from Inter Kashi. A ruling from the Deputy President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division Sport had stated: 'The All India Football Federation is ordered not to declare the winner of the I-League 2024/2025 or organise a medal ceremony for the I-League 2024-25 until the present arbitration has been concluded.' Amendments to regulations on status and transfer of players ======================================== The AIFF meanwhile announced a set of amendments to its regulations on the status and transfer of players, which will come into effect from June 1. The AIFF said it focuses on enhancing player welfare, supporting women's football and youth football more effectively, and improving regulatory transparency. 'A standout feature of the updated regulations is the increased attention to the rights and well-being of female players,' the sports body said. The AIFF said it has 'introduced provisions addressing menstrual health, allowing female players to take leave from training during the onset of their menstrual cycle. 'Expanded clauses now also cover pregnancy, adoption, and family leave for both players and coaches, aiming to create a more inclusive environment for women in the sport. 'The amendments also introduce structural reforms in player transfers and youth development. New limitations on the number and duration of player loan deals have been set to ensure fairness. 'To safeguard young talent, the AIFF has revised its regulations concerning the registration of minors at academies, emphasising child protection in accordance with FIFA standards.' I-League: AIFF officially asks Churchill to return trophy and medals
Panaji: The All India Football Federation ( AIFF ) has requested Churchill Brothers FC to return the I-League champions trophy and medals to comply with the stay order granted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a Switzerland-based independent court tasked with resolving legal disputes in the field of sport through arbitration. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The AIFF handed over the I-League trophy to champions Churchill Brothers FC on Sunday, unaware that two hours earlier, CAS had stayed the decision of its appeals committee and asked the federation 'not to declare the winner of the I-League 2024-25 or organise a medal ceremony for the I-League until the present arbitration has been concluded.' Inter Kashi , who finished second behind Churchill by a point after the final round of matches, had appealed the AIFF's decision to declare Churchill as the champions before the sports court. The Varanasi-based side can finish on top, if they get the three points that were taken away by the AIFF appeals committee. On Feb 24, the disciplinary committee had upheld Kashi's appeal and handed them a 3-0 win after Namdhari FC were adjudged to have fielded an ineligible player. A month later, that decision was stayed by the appeals panel and subsequently, on April 19, the verdict was in favour of Namdhari, paving the way for Churchill to be crowned champions. 'The AIFF has to comply with the CAS order which has stayed the decision of the appeals committee,' a senior official told TOI on Tuesday. 'The federation has officially written to Churchill Brothers CEO (Valanka Alemao) to return the trophy and medals to the AIFF at the earliest.' The AIFF has explained to Churchill that they went ahead with the trophy distribution ceremony since it was notified of the CAS order only after the conclusion of the medal ceremony, owing to Sunday being a public holiday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In its order, Elizabeth Steiner, deputy president of the CAS's Appeals Arbitration Division, provided AIFF, Churchill and Namdhari FC time till April 29 to file a full reply to Inter Kashi's application for provisional measures. According to sources, AIFF is in favour of a quick resolution to the dispute and remain eager for a conclusion before the end of the season on May 31. 'An expedited procedure will ensure that there is a conclusion to the case before the next season starts. The earlier this gets resolved, the better it is for Indian football ,' said the official. Churchill have won the I-League title twice in the past (2008-09, 2012-13). The third title will be precious, given that it can take them to the top-tier Indian Super League (ISL) on sporting merit, just like the two previous I-League winners, Punjab FC and Mohammedan Sporting.

Chhangte's strike puts Mumbai City FC in Kalinga Super Cup semi-finals
Bhubaneswar, Apr 27 (UNI) Mumbai City booked their place in the semi-finals of the Kalinga Super Cup, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Inter Kashi at the Kalinga Stadium, here on Sunday. After a goalless first half, Lallianzuala Chhangte's 71st minute goal proved the difference in a game of fine margins. Mumbai will now face the winners of the quarter-final between NorthEast United FC and Jamshedpur FC. A cautious first half was played out mostly in midfield with neither side able to register a single shot on target in the period. It was a predictable set of characters leading the two sides' offensive charges, Edmund Lalrindika and Nikola Stojanovic's influence countered by Lallianzuala Chhangte and Jorge Ortiz. The best chance of the half fell to Vikram Partap Singh, who was played through with a brilliant long ball by Nathan Rodrigues. The ball was perfectly within his stride and would have opened up a chance to shoot straight at goal with no defenders nearby. The forward's touch was too heavy and almost immediately was closed down, the half chance taken away. Mumbai City were the ones keener to get on the scoreboard in the second half, Kashi happy to defend, drag them into deep waters and look for a chance on the counter. In the 53rd minute, Niko Karelis shot an acrobatic effort wide from inside the six-yard area after Mehtab Singh's initial header was tipped on to the cross by Shubham Das. The chance fell from a corner, which in itself was a product of a sharp save made by Das from Ortiz's snap volley off PN Noufal's cross. Das was at the centre of the drama again soon after, diving full stretch to palm away an accidental volley by his defender which seemed destined for the back of the net. The chance had been created by another Ortiz long pass into the box. Mumbai's reward came in the 71st minute via Chhangte. After PN Noufal's low cross was badly cleared, Niko Karelis had two shots on goal from seven yards away, both his attempts blocked by desperate Kashi defenders. The second rebound fell into the path of Chhangte. He fired a first-time effort at the near post and the ball bounced off the upright and in. Mumbai had finally broken through. Jorge Ortiz was presented the Kalinga Player of the Match award by Sonali Chand, OAS, Officer on Special Duty, Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha. UNI BM SS
