Ved Vyas Temple: The Secret Stop Every True Shiva Devotee Must Visit
Last Updated: The ancient Ved Vyas Mahadev Temple in UP's Sahupuri holds a unique belief that sage Ved Vyas once cursed Kashi Vishwanath and began penance here, vowing to create a new Kashi The ancient Maharishi Ved Vyas Temple, also known as the Ved Vyas Mahadev Temple, is located in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. This sacred site holds a distinct spiritual identity and deep-rooted beliefs associated with the sage Maharishi Ved Vyas. According to legend, after the Mahabharata war ended, Maharishi Ved Vyas arrived in Kashi (Varanasi) and sought blessings from Lord Vishwanath. However, he received no response from the deity. Disheartened and hurt, the sage sat in silence, fasting for several days. In his anguish, he cursed Kashi Vishwanath, declaring that worship at the temple would bear no fruit for devotees. Following this, Ved Vyas moved to Sundarban in the Sahupuri region and began intense penance, vowing to establish a new spiritual centre, Vyas Kashi. Meanwhile, Lord Vishwanath, awakened from his samadhi, realised what had happened and sent Goddess Annapurna to soothe the sage's anger. Disguised, the goddess arrived with 56 varieties of offerings. But Ved Vyas, sensing the divine presence, returned the food. To free his father from the burden of the curse, Lord Ganesha undertook rigorous penance. Eventually, Ved Vyas's anger subsided, and the curse on Lord Vishwanath was lifted. As a result, Lord Ganesha was entrusted with assisting in the composition of the Mahabharata. Since then, a tradition of offering food to Maharishi Ved Vyas has continued at the temple. ' with no Nandi statue outside, a rare feature in Shiva temples. It is also believed that one's pilgrimage to Kashi Vishwanath remains incomplete without visiting the Ved Vyas Temple. The temple sees a surge of devotees every Monday during the holy month of Shravan. Pilgrims arrive from various states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Special Rudrabhishek rituals are also performed here during Sawan. A key highlight of this sacred site is that no devotee leaves hungry or thirsty. Lakhs of pilgrims visit daily, and the belief is strong that visiting the temple relieves all troubles. Ved Vyas himself is said to have established the temple, and his samadhi (final resting place) is located here. Devotees describe the experience as deeply spiritual. Santosh Jaiswal shared with Local18 that one feels a sense of peace upon entering the temple. 'I don't ask for anything, yet Mahadev fulfils all my wishes," said Lata Jaiswal, another devotee. Vikas Gupta added, 'This is a very old and divine temple built by Maharishi Ved Vyas himself. Just one visit can rid you of your problems." The Ved Vyas Temple continues to be a revered pilgrimage site where faith, myth, and divine grace come together to create a powerful spiritual experience. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. This is not the end, fight for justice continues: Churchill
Churchill Brothers were declared champions in April and handed the I-League trophy, but after the CAS order on Friday, finish second behind Inter Kashi Panaji: Churchill Brothers FC have admitted that Friday's verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has stung them, but maintained that the resolve remains unshaken. Having finished at the top of the I-League table with 40 points, the two-time former champions were made to wait till the All India Football Federation's appeals committee decided on a case involving Namdhari FC and Inter Kashi. That verdict went against second-placed Inter Kashi, and Churchill were officially crowned champions in April, with the trophy presentation ceremony in Goa. Three months later, the Switzerland-based CAS panel, an independent international body that settles disputes related to sport through arbitration, set aside the appeals committee decision – second such decision which was overturned -- and ordered AIFF to 'adjust the points table of the I-League and declare Inter Kashi as champions.' 'We have received the CAS decision in the Mario Barco ineligibility case today. To every fan who stood by us, who bled red and believed in what was right, we feel your pain. We know what this club means to Goa. This verdict may sting, but it will not shake our resolve. The truth has not been silenced; it's only waiting for its moment,' Churchill said in a social media post on Saturday. The club said they will continue to fight. 'This is not the end. Our fight for justice continues. And we promise you, Churchill Brothers will not stop until Goa gets the honour it truly deserves,' said Churchill. CAS ruled in favour of Inter Kashi in a dispute over Spanish striker Mario Barco's registration after the Varanasi-based side registered the player twice—a move that was challenged and deemed invalid by the AIFF appeals committee. Barco was part of Kashi's initial squad – which included six foreigners -- for the I-League but was later replaced by Matija Babovic due to what was seen as a season-ending injury. The Spanish striker later made a return to the team in February since Julen Perez's contract termination during the January transfer window left a vacant foreign spot. Kashi challenged the appeals committee order, arguing that the green signal to register the player came from the League Committee. Arguing before CAS, the AIFF said its League Committee lacked the authority to render any final and binding clarification or opinion on the interpretation of Article 6.5.7 in response to the AIFF competitions department's query CAS, however, set aside the appeals committee decision and ordered AIFF to 'adjust the points table of the I-League and declare Inter Kashi as champions.' The final points table leaves Kashi at the top with 42 points, two more than second-placed Churchill.

Churchill Brothers on CAS I-League verdict: ‘Our fight for justice continues'
Churchill Brothers on Saturday said its 'fight for justice continues' after the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) ruling announced Inter Kashi as the 2024-25 I-League winner. CAS ruled in favour of Kashi in a dispute over Mario Barco's registration after the side registered the Spanish player twice—a move that was challenged and deemed invalid by the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Competitions Committee. AIFF had previously announced Churchill Brothers as the winner of India's second-tier, after which Kashi challenged the decision in CAS. Inter Kashi becomes I-League champion—CAS rejects AIFF Appeals Committee ruling
Inter Kashi was handed a reprieve by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday as it ruled in the club's favour in a dispute over Mario Barco's registration, ultimately declaring it the I-League champion for the 2024-25 season. The controversy arose after Kashi registered the Spanish player twice—a move that was challenged and deemed invalid by the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Competitions Committee. Barco was initially registered before the season but suffered an injury in December, leading to his replacement by Matija Babovic. However, two months later, Kashi re-registered Barco as a replacement for Juan Pérez del Pino, who had mutually terminated his contract with the club. According to I-League Regulation 6.5.7, a foreign player can be replaced by another foreign player up to three times in cases of injury, illness, or mutual contract termination. While clubs are permitted three registrations, re-registering a player after an injury—which, under the rules, should have ruled him out for the season—was considered invalid by the Competitions Committee. The League Committee initially overturned this decision, but the Appeals Committee reinstated it, deducting four points from Kashi. However, the CAS ultimately sided with the I-League club, overturning the penalty. This is Kashi's second successful appeal at the CAS this season, after it previously won a case against Namdhari FC for fielding the suspended Cledson Da Silva, a decision that awarded Kashi three points. With Friday's decision, Kashi gained an additional three points, taking its total to 42—enough to clinch the title ahead of provisional leader Churchill Brothers, which dropped to second due to an inferior goal difference. 'The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) serves as the highest judicial authority for resolving disputes in the field of sports. The All India Football Federation respects and upholds the decisions delivered by the CAS,' Kalyan Chaubey, the AIFF President, told Sportstar. 'In light of the recent ruling, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Inter Kashi on being officially declared the I-League Champion.' Will Kashi play in the ISL next season? There is no clarity on whether the club will play in the Indian Super League (ISL) this season, with the ISL officially put on hold with no confirmation on the future of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA). The Supreme Court, on April 26, had advised the AIFF to stall negotiations with Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) until it rules on the Federation's constitution. A decision on the same was expected on July 18, but is now likely to be postponed. The last time there was a discussion between the AIFF and FSDL, there was a draft proposed by the latter, wherein it stated that 'ISL shall be limited to the current number of teams for at least five years,' adding 'No Expansion through Promotion from Lower Tiers, unless explicitly voted for by all stakeholders.' Rules of promotion/relegation in the draft At least a 10-year moratorium on Promotion/Relegation from ISL to lower tiers, and not until complete alignment of lower tiers as per the new roadmap, pre-agreed between parties. No club to get promoted to ISL unless it (i) meets strict financial and licensing criteria and (ii) has been in existence for at least five years under the same ownership that meets fitness test. The AIFF had replied to the draft with a revised version of the existing MRA, which runs until December 8, 2025, with a five per cent increase in its Rs. 50 crore revenue. It was, however, rejected by FSDL. Promotion of I-League winners to the ISL has happened in the last two seasons, with Punjab FC and Mohammedan Sporting being the two sides promoted.

Inter Kashi named as I-League champions after CAS ruling against Churchill Brothers
Inter Kashi are the I League 2024-2025 champions. (Social media: Inter Kashi) Inter Kashi crowned champions after two CAS appeal victories Churchill Brothers drop to second despite leading the table ISL promotion awaits, but league's future remains in limbo Inter Kashi have officially been declared the 2024–25 I-League champions after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in their favour, overturning the AIFF Appeal Committee's earlier decision that had handed the title to Churchill Brothers. With the verdict, Inter Kashi's final tally climbs to 42 points, putting them above Churchill Brothers on goal difference and earning them direct promotion to the Indian Super League. It marks a stunning end to one of the most tightly contested and drama-filled I-League seasons in recent memoryâ€'and a historic achievement for a club playing its first top-tier campaign. The yellow card that started the saga The controversy stemmed from Inter Kashi's 2-1 loss to Namdhari FC on January 13. Weeks later, Kashi alleged that Namdhari had fielded Brazilian midfielder Cledson Carvalho da Silva, who had accumulated three yellow cards and should have been suspended for that match. The AIFF Disciplinary Committee initially ruled in Kashi's favour and awarded them three points. But confusion erupted when Namdhari claimed the player wasn't listed as suspended on the official AIFF portal. The ruling was paused on March 27, and the matter snowballed into a season-defining dispute. When the AIFF Appeal Committee stepped in, it reversed the earlier decision and reinstated the original match result. That verdict meant Churchill Brothersâ€'who had finished with 40 pointsâ€'were named provisional champions, while Inter Kashi, with 39, dropped to second. The CAS appeal timeline: Two wins from Lausanne Unwilling to let the decision stand, Inter Kashi took the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland. They first appealed the AIFF Appeal Committee's rulingâ€'and won. CAS restored the three points from the Namdhari match, taking Kashi's total to 42, pushing them ahead of Churchill Brothers. However, even after the ruling, the AIFF had not officially named Inter Kashi as champions. So the club returned to CAS with a second appealâ€'seeking formal confirmation of their title win. On July 18, CAS issued a clear directive: 'The AIFF shall forthwith declare Inter Kashi FC as winner of the I-League 2024–25 season.' With that, Churchill Brothers drop to second place, and Real Kashmir and Gokulam Keralaâ€'both ending with 37 pointsâ€'round off what was one of the most tightly fought seasons in recent I-League history. By logic and precedent, Inter Kashi now earn promotion to the Indian Super League. But here's the twist: the ISL itself faces an uncertain future. With the roadmap for league integration and promotion still murky, and discussions ongoing between the AIFF and stakeholders, Kashi's hard-fought triumph feels slightly muted. They've won the warâ€'but for now, the battlefield beyond remains foggy.
