(HT File) President Droupadi Murmu has recommended a private member's bill calling for the rehabilitation and resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits for consideration in the Rajya Sabha. The Kashmiri Pandits (Recourse, Restitution, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) Bill, 2022, was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by Congress member Vivek Tankha on February 2, 2024, but required the President's recommendation as it involves financial implications. The bill will be taken up for voting in the Rajya Sabha in the current session. 'We welcome the recommendation of the President to the private member's bill on the return and rehabilitation of KPs in the Valley. It has rekindled hope among the community on the issue,' former Jammu Computer Dealers Association President Arvind Kumar said here. He further urged all political parties to come forward to support, vote for, and pass the bill tabled in the Rajya Sabha by Vivek Tankha. Similarly, businessman P L Koul also thanked the President. 'For the first time in Parliament, a private member's bill titled Kashmiri Pandits (Recourse, Restitution, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) Bill, 2022, has been recommended by the President for consideration in the House, subject to time constraints,' Tankha said in a post on X. Panun Kashmir rejects bill, calls it an attempt to subvert homeland demand Meanwhile, Panun Kashmir, an organisation advocating the cause of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, rejected the bill, saying it subverts the issues of 'genocide' and the demand for a homeland for the community in Kashmir. 'We strongly reject the Kashmiri Pandits bill currently pending in the Rajya Sabha. The bill is an attempt to derail the discourse on genocide recognition and to deflect attention from the foundational demands of the displaced community of carving out a homeland for them in the Valley,' a joint statement issued by the organisation said.

Maharashtra: NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar hit back at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for comparing opposition parties to terrorists

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 7 (ANI): NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar on Monday hit back at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for comparing Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS and NCP-SCP to terrorists amid the Marathi-Hindi row in Maharashtra. Speaking to ANI, Rohit Pawar said, 'I request Nishikant Dubey not to try and implement election strategies specific to Bihar in Maharashtra. While he is thinking of the West Bengal and Bihar elections, he is disturbing the sense of equality in Maharashtra. We are saying that those who speak against the state and the Marathi language are doing wrong. If you speak against the state and Marathi here, it will not be accepted.' Earlier on Sunday, Dubey took to X and compared Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS and NCP-SCP to terror accused Salauddin, Maulana Masood Azhar, and Dawood Ibrahim. 'In Mumbai, what is the difference between Shiv Sena Uddhav, MNS Raj Thackeray, and NCP Pawar Sahab, and those who drove Kashmiri Hindus out of Kashmir, like Salauddin, Maulana Masood Azhar, and Dawood Ibrahim, who committed atrocities against Hindus in Mumbai? One committed atrocity for being Hindu, while the others are committing atrocities because of Hindi?' Nishikant Dubey wrote. In another X post, Dubey wrote, 'Those who beat Hindi-speaking people in Mumbai, if you have the guts, try beating Urdu-speaking people in Maharashtra. Even a dog becomes a lion in its own house, right? Decide for yourself who is the dog and who is the lion.' Meanwhile, Rohit Pawar also slammed Ashish Shelar for comparing the violence over the Marathi-Hindi row to the Pahalgam terror attack. 'We condemn Ashish Shelar's statement because he compared Marathi people with terrorists. We advise him to stay careful of the prominent leaders in his party who make some leaders give such statements,' Pawar told ANI. Earlier on Sunday, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar compared the agony of the Pahalgam terror attack, where Hindus were killed in the name of religion, and those getting 'beaten up' in the name of language. He said that these incidents were distressing for him. 'All these incidents cause pain, suffering, and mental distress. In Pahalgam, they shot them after asking about their religion. And here, they beat up the innocent Hindus just because of the language they speak. Such cases create a disturbance,' Shelar said. These remarks by BJP leaders come after incidents of violence and vandalism were reported in the state amid the ongoing Hindi-Marathi controversy. Five workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were arrested in connection with the vandalism at entrepreneur Sushil Kedia's office in Worli, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered against them under Sections 223, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 191(3), and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. In another incident, as per a viral video, a group of men allegedly associated with a regional party beat up a shop owner for not speaking in Marathi. The incident occurred in the Mira-Bhayandar area near Mumbai. (ANI)

JKNC MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi pays tribute

Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 8 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi on Sunday paid tributes at the 129th Urs of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) and highlighted the saint's message of unity and spiritual wisdom. Devotees from various parts of the country gathered at Baba Nagri, Wangat Kangan to offer prayers at the revered shrine of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) during the 129th Urs. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual devotion as people paid their respects and sought blessings. Many devotees expressed deep gratitude for being able to attend the annual event, calling it a spiritually uplifting experience that strengthens their faith and connection to the Sufi saint's teachings. On Tuesday, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah welcomed the celebration of both the Kheer Bhawani Mela and the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, calling it a symbol of communal harmony in Kashmir. He stressed the importance of unity for national progress. Speaking to ANI, Farooq Abdullah said, 'It is a matter of joy that the mela of Kheer Bhawani and Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani are being celebrated today. There has always been brotherhood in the valley. We want to see this brotherhood across the country. If we stay united, we will progress.' The Kheer Bhawani Mela is an important annual religious festival for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It is held at the Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulla Mulla village of Ganderbal district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, a form of Goddess Durga, and is considered one of the holiest sites for Kashmiri Hindus. Abdullah also appealed to devotees to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, expressing concern over the drop in pilgrim numbers following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. 'We should go to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra and appeal to the people to visit there. There has been a decrease in the number of devotees to Mata Vaishno Devi. People are scared after the tragedy of war that took place recently. The impact of the Pahalgam incident was seen throughout the country,' Abdullah told ANI. (ANI)
