Devotees from various parts of the country gathered at Baba Nagri, Wangat Kangan to offer prayers at the revered shrine of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) during the 129th Urs.
The atmosphere was filled with spiritual devotion as people paid their respects and sought blessings. Many devotees expressed deep gratitude for being able to attend the annual event, calling it a spiritually uplifting experience that strengthens their faith and connection to the Sufi saint's teachings.
On Tuesday, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah welcomed the celebration of both the Kheer Bhawani Mela and the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, calling it a symbol of communal harmony in Kashmir. He stressed the importance of unity for national progress.
Speaking to ANI, Farooq Abdullah said, 'It is a matter of joy that the mela of Kheer Bhawani and Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani are being celebrated today. There has always been brotherhood in the valley. We want to see this brotherhood across the country. If we stay united, we will progress.'
The Kheer Bhawani Mela is an important annual religious festival for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It is held at the Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulla Mulla village of Ganderbal district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, a form of Goddess Durga, and is considered one of the holiest sites for Kashmiri Hindus.
Abdullah also appealed to devotees to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, expressing concern over the drop in pilgrim numbers following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
'We should go to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra and appeal to the people to visit there. There has been a decrease in the number of devotees to Mata Vaishno Devi. People are scared after the tragedy of war that took place recently. The impact of the Pahalgam incident was seen throughout the country,' Abdullah told ANI. (ANI)

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis appeals for peace after communal tension erupts over objectionable post
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperation after communal tensions flared up in Pune district due to an objectionable social media post shared by an outsider. "We have only one appeal: everyone should maintain peace and no one should take the law into their own hands," Fadnavis said.(ANI) The remark came after a tense situation had arisen in Yavat village at Daund Taluka of Pune District following an alleged objectionable social media post by a local youth. Villagers took to the streets and a few youngsters attempted to vandalise a structure. A heavy deployment of Police personnel was made in the area. Police said that the incident occurred in the village a week ago, so the situation was already tense. Speaking to the media persons, CM Fadnavis said, "We have only one appeal: everyone should maintain peace and no one should take the law into their own hands. If anyone does so, the police will take strict action against them," he warned. The CM assured that the situation had been brought under control and peace was restored in the area. CM Fadnavis said, "I have just gathered information about the matter. According to it, a person from outside had posted an objectionable status, which led to tensions. People came out onto the streets, and in order to control the crowd, a lathi-charge had to be carried out. The situation is now under control. People from both communities are sitting together, talking, and trying to resolve the tension." "Some people deliberately post such statuses to create tension, but strict action will definitely be taken against them. Just because a gathering or event took place, does that give anyone the freedom to post such provocative statuses? No one has the right to make offensive remarks against any religion in this manner," he said. He dismissed the claims that the unrest was linked to a recent public gathering, saying, "So, to say that the tension arose because of a public gathering is completely incorrect. At present, the area is entirely peaceful. In many such cases, doctored videos also come to light. Hence, that aspect must also be investigated." Furthermore, Swapnil Adinath Kadam, a bakery owner whose shop was vandalised and burned, said, "Some of my workers are Muslims and they have come from UP. A social media post surfaced in the morning, it was said that Muslims had posted an objectionable social media post. There is a mosque 150-200 metres from here. They were heading to the mosque. Someone said that this bakery belongs to Muslims. But the bakery belongs to us, and they (workers) are here on rent. They pelted stones at the bakery, took away the tin sheets, and hurled something inflammable inside. Our bakery is completely burned. None of our workers had to do anything with the social media post..." Further investigation into the post and the video clip is underway.

Honorarium of cooks, watchmen & instructors doubled: Nitish
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Friday said his govt has doubled the honorarium for cooks, night watchmen, and physical education & health instructors working in the state govt schools. "The honorarium for cooks working under the education department's midday meal programme has been doubled from Rs 1,650 to Rs 3,300 per month. Similarly, the honorarium for night guards in the secondary/higher secondary schools has also been doubled from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per month," the CM said in a post on X. "The remuneration for physical education & health instructors has also been doubled from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000 per month. Additionally, their annual salary increment has also been doubled from Rs 200 to Rs 400. This will boost the morale of the working personnel, encouraging them to perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication," Nitish said in the post in Hindi. In the beginning of his post, Nitish said, "Since the formation of the govt in Nov 2005, we have been consistently working to improve the education system. In 2005, the total budget of education (dept) was Rs 4,366 crore, which has now increased to Rs 77,690 crore. Significant improvements in the education system have been made through the appointment of a large number of teachers, construction of new school buildings, and development of infrastructure. " "Cooks, night guards, and physical education & health instructors have played an important role in strengthening the education system. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to double the honorarium of these personnel by making a "respectable increase" in their remuneration," the CM said. Welcoming the govt's decision, JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha on Friday said by doubling the honorarium of these personnel, the CM has once again proven that his governance style is a testament to human sensitivity, social justice, and inclusive development. "This decision will instil pride, stability, and hope in the thousands of families," Kushwaha said.

Priya's execution was scheduled for July 16 but was put off following the intervention of Indian officials and non-resident Indians, who have been seeking a reprieve for the Indian nurse. The 38-year-old woman is in a prison in Sana'a, the Yemeni capital city controlled by Houthi rebels. 'This is a sensitive matter and the Government of India has been offering all possible assistance in the case. As a result of our concerted efforts, the local authorities in Yemen have postponed carrying out her sentence,' Jaiswal said. 'We continue to closely follow the matter and render all possible assistance.' Acknowledging that India is in touch with 'some friendly governments' on the issue, Jaiswal cautioned against speculative reporting on the matter. Over the past few days, people familiar with the matter have dismissed claims made regarding Priya's case by evangelist KA Pau and Kerala-based cleric, Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musaliyar, who contended that the death sentence had been overturned. Without going into specifics, Jaiswal urged 'all sides to stay away from misinformation'. Priya, who hails from Kollengode in Palakkad district of Kerala, was convicted by a Yemeni court of murdering her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi and given the death sentence in 2020. Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council dismissed her appeal in November 2023. Priya had injected Mahdi with sedatives in an attempt to retrieve her passport, which he had withheld amid escalating personal and financial disputes. An overdose reportedly led to his death. Efforts to prevent Priya's execution have focused on the Islamic tradition of 'diyat', or paying 'blood money' to the victim's family. However, Mahdi's family has said that it will not agree to such a settlement. The matter has been complicated as India has no diplomatic presence in Yemen, and officials in the Indian mission in Saudi Arabia are handling the case.
