JKNC MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi pays tribute
Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 8 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi on Sunday paid tributes at the 129th Urs of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) and highlighted the saint's message of unity and spiritual wisdom. Devotees from various parts of the country gathered at Baba Nagri, Wangat Kangan to offer prayers at the revered shrine of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) during the 129th Urs. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual devotion as people paid their respects and sought blessings. Many devotees expressed deep gratitude for being able to attend the annual event, calling it a spiritually uplifting experience that strengthens their faith and connection to the Sufi saint's teachings. On Tuesday, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah welcomed the celebration of both the Kheer Bhawani Mela and the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, calling it a symbol of communal harmony in Kashmir. He stressed the importance of unity for national progress. Speaking to ANI, Farooq Abdullah said, 'It is a matter of joy that the mela of Kheer Bhawani and Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani are being celebrated today. There has always been brotherhood in the valley. We want to see this brotherhood across the country. If we stay united, we will progress.' The Kheer Bhawani Mela is an important annual religious festival for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It is held at the Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulla Mulla village of Ganderbal district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, a form of Goddess Durga, and is considered one of the holiest sites for Kashmiri Hindus. Abdullah also appealed to devotees to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, expressing concern over the drop in pilgrim numbers following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. 'We should go to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra and appeal to the people to visit there. There has been a decrease in the number of devotees to Mata Vaishno Devi. People are scared after the tragedy of war that took place recently. The impact of the Pahalgam incident was seen throughout the country,' Abdullah told ANI. (ANI)

Won't allow Pahalgam terror attack to hinder development work in Jammu & Kashmir: PM Modi
Assuring his full support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which he termed "crown of India", Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday pledged not to allow the Pahalgam terror attack to hinder development works in the union territory. He also praised the border residents for bravely facing indiscriminate cross-border shelling by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, and announced an additional relief of Rs 2 lakh for the families whose houses were completely damaged and Rs 1 lakh for those whose houses were partially damaged. "I will not allow the Pahalgam terror attack to stop development in J-K. "Today, people in J-K are looking at new dreams, and fulfilling them as well. The youth are happy with the construction of shopping malls, opening of cinema halls. They want J-K to become a prominent shooting destination for films. They also want the region to become a sporting hub," the prime minister said. It was imperative to pull J-K out of the menace of terrorism, which we have done successfully." Referring to the loss of lives and heavy damage caused by Pakistan shelling in the border districts of J-K between May 6 and May 10, Modi said Pakistan Army's action showed its frustration as it targeted civilian areas in Jammu, Poonch and other districts. "The whole world witnessed how Pakistan destroyed homes, schools, temples, mosques and gurdwaras. The people of the country also saw the bravery of the border residents who held their ground," Modi said, adding that every citizen of the country stood behind the victims' families. "The next of kin of those who lost their lives were recently handed over jobs on compassionate grounds. We share the pain of over 2,000 families whose houses suffered damages and they will be provided adequate relief for repair work," Modi said. Stating that the Centre has decided to further enhance the relief package for the shelling victims, he said, "The owners of completely damaged houses will be provided additional Rs 2 lakh and partially damaged houses Rs 1 lakh." The prime minister also said that his government worked tirelessly for the welfare of the border residents over the past several years, constructing more than 10,000 underground bunkers in the border villages, which helped people save their lives during Pakistani shelling. Two border battalions were raised, providing employment to the border residents, while the process of setting up two women battalions is almost complete, Modi said.

'This year, we expected crores of people to come, and we have no place to accommodate them. But unfortunately, those who killed innocent people did not see what would happen (to taxi drivers, hotel owners, pony owners)... We sell the beauty given by God and earn a living... Devotees coming for Kheer Bhawani after Pahalgam attack a good sign: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday (June 3, 2025) described the large number of devotees attending the Kheer Bhawani Mela as a "good sign", especially in light of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. "The devotees have come in large numbers to attend the Mela Kheer Bhawani. This is a good sign and this is the first time after April 22 that such a crowd has gathered at a place," Lieutenant Governor Sinha told reporters here after offering prayers at the Ragnya Devi temple here in Ganderbal district. Welcoming the devotees, the Lieutenant Governor assured that the administration has made good arrangements for the mela. "The work on yatri niwas is going on," he added. Regarding the annual Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin on July 3, Lieutenant Governor Sinha confirmed that all preparations for the pilgrimage have been completed. "In terms of security as well, the security arrangements have been done and I appeal to the devotees from across the country to come here and take Baba's blessings," he said. The Kheer Bhawani mela will be held at five Ragnya Bhagwati shrines at Tulmulla in Ganderbal, Manzgam and Devsar in Kulgam, Logripora in Anantnag and Tikkar in Kupwara on Tuesday (June 3, 2025).
