KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family of Sarawak Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) producer Irwan Budi Annuar. Irwan Budi passed away last night due to kidney and lung complications. Fahmi shared his tribute in a Facebook post, recalling his visit to Irwan Budi's home in Petra Jaya, Kuching, in September 2023. During the visit, Fahmi delivered a contribution from the Kasih@HAWANA Fund after learning of the producer's declining health. Fahmi highlighted Irwan Budi's 20-year service with RTM, praising his significant contributions to Malaysia's broadcasting industry. 'May his soul be blessed with mercy and placed among Allah's righteous and faithful servants. Al-Fatihah,' Fahmi said. Irwan Budi, 51, died at his home in Taman Sourabaya Indah, Petrajaya, Kuching, around 8 pm. He began his career with RTM in 2005 as a radio announcer, reporter, and section coordinator. Since 2021, Irwan Budi had been battling lung cancer and kidney disease while stationed at RTM Limbang in Sarawak. His final rites will be held at a mosque in Taman Sukma, followed by burial at Semariang Muslim Cemetery after Zohor prayers today. He is survived by his wife and three sons. - Bernama

Veteran journalist Fauziah Rauf dies at 81

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran journalist and one of Malaysia's earliest female editors, Fauziah Rauf, died at Selayang Hospital early today. She was 81. Her youngest son, Firhat Yasir Omar Sudi, when met at the family residence in Bandar Baru Selayang, said his mother died at around 1 am due to a brain haemorrhage. He said Fauziah's remains would be taken to the Selayang Baru Mosque for cleansing and shrouding and funeral prayers before being laid to rest at the Selayang Baru Muslim Cemetery after Zohor prayers. Fauziah, the founder of the Malaysian Entertainment Writers and Journalists Association (WHAM), was a recipient of the Kasih@HAWANA Fund in 2023. She had previously been honoured with the Entertainment Journalism Icon Award at the Malaysian Film Industry Journalism Awards (AKIFMA) in 2017, organised by WHAM and the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS). With over two decades of experience at Utusan Malaysia, Fauziah was also a pioneering figure and the first Malaysian woman to publish newspapers and magazines such as 'Mingguan Famili', 'Pentas Dunia' and 'Hawa' during the 1980s.

In a Facebook post, Fahmi said her passing would be deeply felt by members of the media who had the opportunity to work alongside her. He noted that the late Fauziah was a recipient of the Kasih@HAWANA Fund in 2023, an initiative by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). 'The Kasih@HAWANA Fund was established as a symbol of care and appreciation, supporting media practitioners facing hardships during their service, in retirement, or in times of illness. 'May her soul be blessed, her sins forgiven, and may she be placed among the righteous,' he said. Veteran journalist and media pioneer Fauziah Rauf, 81, passed away at Selayang Hospital at around 1 am today due to a brain hemorrhage. Fauziah was among the earliest female editors in the country and the founder of the Malaysian Entertainment Journalists and Writers Association (WHAM). In 2017, she was honoured with the Entertainment Journalism Icon Award at the Malaysian Film Industry Journalism Awards, organised by WHAM and FINAS (National Film Development Corporation). With over two decades of experience at Utusan Malaysia, Fauziah also broke new ground as the first woman to publish local newspapers such as Mingguan Famili, Pentas Dunia and the women's magazine Hawa in the 1980s. She also played a key role in bringing Malaysian artists to the Voice of Asia Music Festival in Kazakhstan throughout the 1990s, helping showcase talents such as Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Ziana Zain, Erra Fazira, Anis Suraya and the band Slam on the international stage.
