Top Court Extends Vikas Yadav's Interim Bail By A Month In Nitish Katara Murder Case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended by four weeks the interim bail granted to Vikas Yadav, undergoing a 25-year jail term in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case, to attend to his ailing mother. A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh asked Yadav to approach the Delhi High Court for seeking remission in the case. The top court has been extending interim bail to Yadav on medical grounds. The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended by four weeks the interim bail granted to Vikas Yadav, undergoing a 25-year jail term in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case, to attend to his ailing mother. The AIIMS in its opinion said if the patient failed to respond to conservative management (physiotherapy and medications), then surgical decompression of the lumbar spinal canal was recommended. The top court then extended the interim bail granted to him to look after his mother. On April 24, the top court granted interim bail to Yadav to meet his ailing mother and directed that she be examined by a medical board of AIIMS doctors. Imposing conditions, the top court directed the convict to remain confined to his house in Ghaziabad and not get in touch with the case's witnesses, including Katara's mother Neelam Katara. The apex court granted him the relief subject to depositing a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety of the like amount. Vikas is the son of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav. His cousin Vishal Yadav was also punished for the kidnapping and murder of business executive Katara. The duo was against Katara's alleged affair with Bharti Yadav, sister of Vikas, as they belonged to different castes. Another co-convict Sukhdev Pehalwan was given a 20-year jail term without any remission benefit. Earlier, the Delhi High Court, while upholding the life imprisonment awarded to Vikas and Vishal Yadav by the trial court, specified a 30-year sentence, without any remission, to both of them. It had awarded a 25-year jail term to the third convict, Pehalwan. The Delhi prisons administration had last year rejected Yadav's remission request after his conduct was found to be unsatisfactory.

A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh asked Yadav to approach the Delhi High Court for seeking remission in the case. The top court has been extending interim bail to Yadav on medical grounds. On May 8, the top court took into account a report of the AIIMS medical board which said Yadav's mother was hemodynamically stable and fit to be discharged. SI paper leak: Katara's former driver's son arrested
1 2 Jaipur: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police Friday arrested the son of former RPSC member Babu Lal Katara's driver in the 2021 Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam paper leak case, taking the total number of arrests to 117. Additional Director General (SOG) VK Singh said the investigation revealed that Katara leaked question papers and answer keys for all three days of the written exam to his nephew, Vijay Kumar Damor, a resident of Dungarpur who was living in Katara's official residence in Ajmer. Acting on Katara's directions, Damor passed the leaked material to Ajay Pratap Singh (27), son of Nadan Singh, who was then Katara's driver. Ajay, a resident of Padampura in Ajmer district and currently posted as Private Assistant in the Revenue Board, Ajmer, allegedly received the paper at Katara's official residence in Ajmer before the exam. Armed with the leaked questions, Ajay scored 174.28 in Hindi and 150.2 in General Knowledge, totalling 324.48 marks. However, he failed to clear the physical test and was not finally selected. The SOG arrested him on Friday after he was summoned for questioning. According to officials, his arrest further strengthens the direct link between Katara and several beneficiaries of the leak. Investigators said Ajay's proximity to Katara's household, being the son of the former RPSC member's personal driver, made him a trusted recipient of the leaked content. The accused prepared thoroughly from the leaked material, and his high score raised red flags during the investigation. SOG sources said the crackdown on the sprawling recruitment scam is still underway, and further arrests are likely. "The case has shown deep-rooted collusion. For instance, Katara leaked questions to his nephew, and through them also handed it over to others. Multiple candidates are now under scrutiny," said an official. MSID:: 122766879 413 |

Raj submits consent in SC to terminate Katara's term
Jaipur: Parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel said Monday Rajasthan govt has formally submitted in Supreme Court a copy of the presidential assent for termination of suspended Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Babulal Katara. Katara, who was suspended in Jan 2024 by governor Kalraj Mishra, faces serious allegations of involvement in the Grade II Teacher Exam-2022 paper leak case. His role in the scandal sparked a major controversy over corruption and malpractice in the state's recruitment processes. Patel said, "The state govt initiated action against Katara by sending a detailed report to the governor last year. As per constitutional protocol, the governor forwarded the case to the President's office. Since the matter is sub judice, the consent for his termination was also submitted to the Supreme Court. We are now awaiting final orders. Once the process is complete, Katara will be removed from his post, and all his official benefits will be withdrawn. " The minister also clarified that cases involving grave misconduct by RPSC members are handled through a rigorous constitutional process. The appointment and removal of RPSC members are governed by formal regulations under the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1974, and removal can only be effected after presidential consent. Katara was in judicial custody for over two years and was recently denied bail by a special CBI court, which cited his direct involvement in the paper leak racket. According to the investigation, Katara is accused of leaking the exam paper in collusion with his nephew and others, allegedly accepting payments in cash, gold, and iPhones in return for providing the paper to select candidates.
