Watch emotional moment Sue Cleaver films final Coronation Street scenes as Eileen Grimshaw bids farewell
ACTOR Ryan Thomas has shared an emotional behind-the-scenes video showing his co-star Sue Cleaver's soap departure. Eileen Grimshaw star Sue walked away from the ITV soap after a whopping 25 years. 5 5 Having made her debut as loudmouth Eileen in 2000, her final scenes aired on Friday evening as she quit Weatherfield to move to Thailand alongside son Jason, played by Ryan. Ryan made a special return to the show for a week of episodes after a 10-year absence in order to aid Sue's exit. Fellow actress Katy Cavanagh also reprised her role as Eileen's sister Julie in the weeks leading up to her exit before being killed off. Now, Ryan has taken to Instagram to share a video of the emotional moment that Sue wrapped on her final scenes inside the Grimshaw house. In the clip, the crew behind the camera can be seen clapping Sue as she wrapped on her final take. She embraced co-star Tony Maudsley, who played her now-ex George Shuttleworth, Sue then hugged Ryan and fellow co-star Gareth Pierce before show boss Kate Brooks jumped in to deliver a speech. Wheeling off a list of facts, Kate boomed: "Just to say, this wonderful woman has done 25 years on the street, 2444 episodes - which is a lot. "I think there has been 15 slaps, nine of them as Jason and bust-ups with Gail so quite an eventful 25 years - three proposals!" Looking rather unsure, Kate then added: "I think you are the only character to come to Coronation Street and stay at number 11." Coronation Street icon quits cobbles after 25 years as she makes life changing decision Ryan went on to pen his own, more heartfelt tribute over the top of the video, as he wrote: "it has been an honour to watch, act & learn alongside you one last time. "Can't wait to watch you shine in your next chapter. "Love you always." The Sun exclusively revealed in January that she had quit the show after 25 years on the Salford set to look for new acting opportunities. 'The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly,' she explained. One of Sue's major next steps is to being a regular panellist on Loose Women after first appearing on the daytime panel show in 2023. Sue took a break from Corrie last year to star in Sister Act The Musical as Mother Superior and appeared in reality show I'm A Celebrity in 2022. Last year, Sue released her memoir A Work In Progress and revealed she was embracing being in her 60s. 5 5

Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver says one co-star 'impossible' to work with
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Sue Cleaver, a stalwart of the ITV soap Coronation Street, where she has brought Eileen Grimshaw to life for over two decades, is set to hang up her Weatherfield coat. Recalling her journey on the show during a chat on Off Script podcast, Sue dished out some laughter-filled tales from behind the scenes, which contrast with some of the darker storylines she's been part of, like the tragic plotline involving Eileen's sister Julie Carp's death, portrayed by Katy Cavanagh. Despite the grim narratives, she admitted that there were times when she couldn't contain her giggles during wholly "inappropriate" situations. Among the memories, she regaled listeners with a particularly hilarious instance involving co-star Katy Cavanagh, saying: "I laughed with Katy Cavanagh when she was dead on the floor, bless her heart." The guffaw was triggered when one of Sue's tears took an accidental detour into Katy's nose -- a welcome intrusion of hilarity in the sorrowful scene, reports Leicestershire Live. Express-counted among the causes of on-set merriment is Sue's fellow actor Simon Gregson, famous as Steve McDonald. She mentioned how he is "impossible" to act alongside without breaking down into fits of laughter since they both struggle to maintain composure. Behind the familiar desk at Street Cars taxi service, lies a prop diary that fans would believe is filled with cab bookings and schedules. But Sue revealed it actually hosts a collection of rather risqué jokes instead of mundane dispatch notes. Sue disclosed to her fans: "We have a diary where we can be seen writing little notes. Really what is in that book is the most disgusting photographs of 'Sue by Simon, aged 4.'". Not one to miss out on the fun, Sue recounted with a chuckle how she had gotten back at Simon with an equally playful jest, only for their diary to one day "mysteriously" vanish, seemingly to prevent any possible embarrassment if it were ever found. Opening up about her upcoming departure from the show, Sue gave a heartfelt and candid reflection on her final moments that viewers are set to witness in the upcoming weeks. "I can't give anything away, but it's absolutely fabulous. They really did me proud," she shared, while keeping the details a mystery. With evident emotion, Sue continued: "When I read it and saw it, I was really emotional. It's the perfect ending. It is everything that I wanted. They asked me what I would like, and I decided a year ago that I was gonna go." She further spilled the beans on Ryan Thomas making a return as her on-screen son Jason for her leaving episodes. Expressing her thoughts on this, she said: "I called Ryan Thomas and said, 'Ryan, I've not told work yet, but I'm gonna leave. Would you come back? Ryan's response? 'I wasn't planning to, but I can't refuse that, can I?' For Sue, having Ryan present was the perfect send-off.

Coronation Street fans divided as beloved star leaves soap with emotional exit scenes - as some break down in tears while others slam 'rushed and boring' goodbye
Coronation Street fans were left divided after actress Katy Cavanagh left the ITV soap with emotional exit scenes on Monday night. The latest episode of the show saw her alter-ego Julie Carp video a goodbye message to her friends and family after her battle with cancer. The scenes left those watching at home feel very emotional, but while some broke down in tears, others slammed the 'rushed and boring' ending. Julie said in the video: 'I've got, I had a decent amount of insight into how people's hearts work. 'I learnt a lot about love, usually the hard way. but those are the lessons you don't forget. 'Some folk don't believe in the one, rubbish. 'Because when you know, my God, you know. Might take five minutes, or five years, but when they penny drops, you realise what your life is for. 'How it feels to care about someone else more than you care about yourself. 'But if you don't have that, if things have grown tired and functional, like that pair of shoes that once took your eye, but you only keep on know for the sake of it, take a good hard look.' She finished the message with: 'I loved and I was loved. Job done. 'So I best sign off now. But think on. 'Hug whoever you live a little tighter tonight.' Many rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share how emotional they felt. One said: 'Just started crying really bad actually.' 'Just watched Coronation Street. Sad. RIP Julie Carp. Best of Luck to Katy Cavanagh.' 'Oh Julie,' with a crying face emoji. 'She's gone.' '#CoronationStreet #Corrie I love you, but that scene with Eileen & Julie was thoroughly spoilt but awful, & obvious, fake scenery. Ie, the wrong-month, clumps of ugly plastic flowers!' 'The most shocking set dressing ever for such an important scene #CoronationStreet.' Later on in the episode, before Julie passes away, she heads off to the park with her sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver). When Eileen heads off for a cup of tea for them both to drink, she returns to her sister with her eyes shut lying on the floor. She called the ambulance and was told that she had a 'DNR' on her notes and the paramedics told her that there was nothing they could do for her. Last week it was revealed that Julie would be killed off in heartbreaking scenes. Katy Cavanagh joined the ITV soap as the factory machinist back in 2008. The star's first stint on the Cobbles was from 2008 to 2015. She later rejoined the cast this year. Julie returned to Weatherfield back in February and shared the heartbreaking news of her diagnosis with a rare form of cancer Sarcoma, leaving sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) heartbroken. Over the past few months she has been spending time with her loved ones, including Eileen and her nephew Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). Earlier this year Todd accidentally found Julie's medicine that she was taking for her diagnosis. Julie told Todd: 'Sarcoma. That's what the cancer is called. It started in the soft tissue around my stomach.' She continued: 'It's stage four, it's spread to my liver and lungs. 'The chemo can slow it down but it can't cure it.' A devastated Todd asked her how long she had left, to which she said: 'If I'm lucky I'll see this summer.' Speaking about her return to Weatherfield, Katy said: 'It was really lovely to get the call. 'It is something I haven't thought about for many years. 'And I'm very fond of Julie, so it was a good feeling. 'It also felt good to be asked to be part of Eileen's departure story it is perfect to come and have some closure on Julie and Eileen. 'Sue and I go back to my very first job on The Cops so it is a full circle moment. It also attracted me as it was for a short set period of time and I could fit it in with the other things going on in my life.' Sue - who plays Eileen - announced she was leaving the ITV soap last year. Coronation Street isn't the only programme that Katy has appeared in over the years. She has appeared in Holby City, The Bill, Shameless and Blue Murder. Katy is married to Chris Jupe and the pair share three kids.
