Nik Nazmi hopes to defend Setiawangsa in next GE as PKR candidate
He emphasised that his focus was on fulfilling his current responsibilities and continuing his political journey within the coalition. Nik Nazmi. Bernama photo. SHAH ALAM – Setiawangsa Member of Parliament Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has reaffirmed his commitment to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), making it clear that he intends to serve his full term and contest in the next General Election (GE) under the same political banner. He emphasised that his focus was on fulfilling his current responsibilities and continuing his political journey within the coalition. Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi affirmed his commitment to PKR and PH, ruling out any intention to leave. 'I have said this before. My loyalty lies with the mandate given to me by the people, which is to serve as part of Keadilan and PH. That was the platform I contested on during the last GE, and I intend to see my term through to the end. 'At present, I am focused on my media work and I believe everyone makes their own choices. We all have our roles to play, but for me, until the end of this term, I will not be leaving the party," he told Sinar Daily at the Karangkraf Group Complex yesterday. The former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability minister said his stance was rooted in respect for the trust placed in him when he was elected, highlighting that political instability in recent years had eroded public confidence. 'The reason is simple. I was elected on this mandate and I respect that. We have seen in the past, especially between 2018 and 2022, how quickly politicians have switched sides. Malaysians are tired of that constant back-and-forth. 'As for the next GE, my focus and hope is that Keadilan will once again give me the platform to contest in Setiawangsa," he added.

He intends to serve his full term and contest in the next General Election (GE) under the same banner. The former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability minister clarified that his commitment was rooted in the fact that he was elected on this mandate and respected the trust placed in him. He also reflected on the political instability witnessed in recent years. 'The reason is simple. I was elected on this mandate and I respect that. We have seen in the past, especially between 2018 and 2022, how quickly politicians have switched sides. Malaysians are tired of that constant back-and-forth. 'That is why I believe people should not mistake our vocal views, criticisms or strong opinions as a sign of wanting to jump ship. "For us, it is about fulfilling our mandate. Being a reform party and a reform movement, Keadilan has always allowed space for diverse voices," he added. Nik Nazmi cited Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim as an example of the space PKR provided for differing perspectives. 'I often point to Hassan as an example. He has always been a maverick, and some of his remarks have been even bolder than mine. "That shows there is room in this party for me to continue playing my role and as long as that space exists, I will remain here. 'As for the next GE, my focus and hope is that Keadilan will once again give me the platform to contest in Setiawangsa," he said.

Sim welcomes Tengku Zafrul to PKR, praises him as ‘effective technocratic Minister'
Sim described Tengku Zafrul as a capable leader with the right values and breadth of experience to strengthen the party. Sim Tze Tzin. Photo: Facebook SHAH ALAM - Bayan Baru Member of Parliament (MP) Sim Tze Tzin has warmly welcomed the Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz into Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), lauding his track record as an effective technocratic Minister with both corporate and global experience. In a statement posted on X, Sim described Tengku Zafrul as a capable leader with the right values and breadth of experience to strengthen the party. Recalling their first meeting, Sim said that he first knew Tengku Zafrul when he was still the CIMB Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO). 'It was 2020 in a Hari Raya Open House. He sat beside me and we had a very engaging and intellectual conversation on economy and investment. A discussion that left a lasting impression on me. 'He has proven to be an effective technocratic Minister, navigating complex financial challenges during Covid pandemic,' he said, praising Tengku Zafrul's leadership during his tenure as Finance Minister in 2020. Bernama FILE PIX He added that Tengku Zafrul's work as Miti's Minister in 2022 further demonstrated his capability, particularly in supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's efforts to secure record-high foreign and domestic investments. 'One of his most notable recent achievements was successfully negotiating with the United States (US) to reduce tariffs from 25 per cent to 19 per cent, a move that greatly benefited Malaysian industries. 'Tengku Zafrul is young, energetic (he likes to run) and hardworking. He has extensive Malaysian corporate experiences as well as global experiences. Not many leaders in Malaysia have this breadth of experiences. 'I observed that his political outlooks are very aligned to Keadilan: moderate, multiracial and global minded. Yesterday (Friday), Tengku Zafrul officially announced to join the big Keadilan family. 'I believe he will contribute towards building a stronger Keadilan. Welcome Tengku Zafrul, I look forward to working together and running together with you,' he said. The Miti Minister confirmed that the party had accepted his membership application and that he is now part of the Ampang PKR division. 'I can confirm that I applied to join the party and I informed the secretary-general on the matter,' he told Malaysian media at the Malaysia Pavilion in World Expo 2025 on Friday. Asked if his application had been accepted, Tengku Zafrul replied: 'Yes,' adding that it was approved following the party's leadership council meeting about two weeks ago. In May, Tengku Zafrul resigned as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division chief and as a party member, after earlier stepping down as Selangor Umno treasurer in April last year. He had also informed PKR President and Prime Minister Anwar of his intention to join PKR. His move came shortly after PKR figures Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned as Ministers, following their losses in the party's internal elections. Speculation about Tengku Zafrul's defection from Umno to PKR had been ongoing since late last year.

Former Education Minister Slams Maybank–Microsoft RM1 Billion Deal, Cites Ethical Concerns
A senior member of the People's Justice Party (Keadilan), the former education minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, has criticised Maybank's RM1 billion digital partnership with Microsoft, calling it insensitive in light of the tech company's alleged involvement in Israel's operations in Gaza. In a statement issued through Keadilan's International Bureau, the party urged Maybank to suspend and review the collaboration, citing ethical concerns over Microsoft's reported role in supplying artificial intelligence and surveillance technologies to the Israeli regime. These technologies, the bureau claimed, have been used in military operations, resulting in civilian casualties in Gaza. The party demanded that Maybank publicly disclose any Human Rights risk assessments conducted before the agreement and called on the bank to realign its business decisions with the principles of justice, humanitarian values and Malaysia's foreign policy stance. Maszlee, who is part of the International Bureau, amplified the criticism on his official X account by sharing BusinessToday's coverage of the partnership, further questioning whether Maybank had weighed the global implications of the tie-up.

Anwar calls on Sarawak PKR to strengthen party's grassroots
KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Sarawak leadership line-up to continue strengthening the party's grassroots following the recent party elections in May. He said PKR's grassroots strength must be embraced, reminding those who won in the election not to be arrogant but instead to work together with all parties, including those who lost. "Each of us has our own role and strength to continue serving the people. "Building the party in the Land of the Hornbills is no easy feat, but with collective determination, Keadilan can certainly establish a firm footing," he said in a Facebook post after a meeting with the Sarawak PKR Leadership Council here today. Anwar said the mandate given to the leadership was not an absolute right, but a major responsibility that must be carried out with honesty and sincerity. "Power and position are not licences for comfort or abuse of trust. "All leaders must uphold integrity, be transparent in their actions, and always prioritise the people's interests," he said. – Bernama
