SHAH ALAM – Setiawangsa Member of Parliament Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has reaffirmed his commitment to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), making it clear that he intends to serve his full term and contest in the next General Election (GE) under the same political banner.
He emphasised that his focus was on fulfilling his current responsibilities and continuing his political journey within the coalition. Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi affirmed his commitment to PKR and PH, ruling out any intention to leave.
'I have said this before. My loyalty lies with the mandate given to me by the people, which is to serve as part of Keadilan and PH. That was the platform I contested on during the last GE, and I intend to see my term through to the end.
'At present, I am focused on my media work and I believe everyone makes their own choices. We all have our roles to play, but for me, until the end of this term, I will not be leaving the party," he told Sinar Daily at the Karangkraf Group Complex yesterday.
The former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability minister said his stance was rooted in respect for the trust placed in him when he was elected, highlighting that political instability in recent years had eroded public confidence.
'The reason is simple. I was elected on this mandate and I respect that. We have seen in the past, especially between 2018 and 2022, how quickly politicians have switched sides. Malaysians are tired of that constant back-and-forth.
'As for the next GE, my focus and hope is that Keadilan will once again give me the platform to contest in Setiawangsa," he added.

SUPP Youth chief condemns syringe attack on Rafizi's son, urges harshest justice

Lau describes the chilling act as one that has outraged communities nationwide and called for justice to be served with the maximum severity. – Photo by Peter Boon SIBU (Aug 16): Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Youth chief Councillor Kevin Lau has called on all Malaysians to unequivocally condemn the syringe attack on the 12-year-old son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli last Wednesday. He described the chilling act as one that has outraged communities nationwide and called for justice to be served with the maximum severity. 'This act is so heinous, it demands unwavering condemnation. It is an offense against innocence itself. Targeting a child strikes at the very root of our societal principles,' he said in a statement yesterday. He emphasised that political passion and ideological differences – no matter how deep – can never justify violence or intimidation, especially against children, and urged authorities to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice. 'While I may disagree strongly with some of Rafizi's views – especially those concerning Sarawak's rights over oil and gas – never in my wildest imagination would I have believed that there are people capable of stooping so low to target his child,' he said. Lau said political debate and democratic contestation may be fierce, but must always remain within the bounds of civilized discourse. Crossing into violence, especially against the innocent, is an abandonment of democracy and a descent into barbarism. 'Democracy is not just the right to speak, but the responsibility to speak with respect, especially for the weak,' he said. He stressed that this attack breaches a moral boundary and that children must remain off-limits. 'We must ask ourselves: What kind of society allows such things to happen? If politics can seep into violence and reach children, we risk losing not just our politics, but our moral moorings.' Lau called for the perpetrators to be found and face the harshest possible punishment. 'When convicted, ensure that these individuals receive the harshest sentence permissible, not only as justice for this victim, but as a warning that children are sacrosanct and that crimes against them will result in the most severe penalties society allows.' A strong judicial response, he said, is the best way to deter others from committing similar acts. 'The common humanity we share must override partisan identities when a child is harmed. 'Every decent heart must rally, extend support, care, and comfort to those who have suffered such a brutal blow,' he said. He urged Malaysians to reaffirm the sanctity of children through speeches, petitions, moments of silence, or symbolic gestures. condemn Kevin Lau lead Rafizi Ramli's son syringe attack

Perak MB: Malaysians' duty to respect Jalur Gemilang

IPOH: Every Malaysian who understands the meaning of a sovereign and independent country has a duty to respect the Jalur Gemilang flag, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said. Respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag is not a question of race, skin colour, religion or party affiliation, he added. "When we fly the Jalur Gemilang, let's do it properly and with respect, not upside down, don't let it get worn or torn. "If it's put up wrongly, let's correct it together, if there are those who don't understand, let's explain. This is how we show we understand and care," he said during his speech at the Perak-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign here yesterday. He said respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag showed respect for the country as the flag represented the country and stood for its dignity, history and the future of all Malaysians. "Every time it (the Jalur Gemilang flag) flies high, let us cheer with our spirit, and remind ourselves that we are united under one flag, we fight under one banner, and we bear this flag as we continue to blaze ahead to build our future," he added. Saarani reminded the public that all Malaysians need to commemorate the National Day celebrations as a way to live their lives in peace, unity and to build a country with all their strength and capabilities. "Don't let our independence be just a date on the calendar, let it live in our every heartbeat. As we enjoy the gifts of peace, let us be truly grateful and thankful," he added. There were various activities held during the launch since the afternoon, including exhibitions, a Rahmah Sale, a children's costume contest as well as booths offering services from various agencies, along with performances by local artistes, including Zamani Siam. – BERNAMA

Patriotic spirit: Jainisah (standing back row) with children flying the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah state flag. KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans have been urged to fly the Jalur Gemilang and state flag to symbolise unity and patriotism. State Information Department director Jainisah Mohd Noor said in a diverse and multi-cultural country like Malaysia, the act of flying both flags will prove a point. 'It shows that Malaysians, including Sabahans, live harmoniously in a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural set up. 'Despite differences, we share one spirit and the same vision – to live as one in peace and prosperity,' she said when officiating the Malaysia Day and Sabah Day Jiwa Madani Carnival held at Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu. The carnival was held jointly with the Sahabat Maritim X Borneo Food Fest Santuni Felda event. Jainisah said both flags flown together would serve as a reminder that Malaysians lived together as a united community. She urged the people to stay united and preserve the peace and harmony enjoyed for so long. Jainisah, who also led the state Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 convoy, said the various programmes lined up leading up to National Day, Malaysia Day and Sabah Day, would serve as a bridge to connect the government with the people. 'From these programmes, we can see many agencies come together to meet the people and find out their needs,' she said. Among the 21 agencies and departments taking part in the programmes include the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department, Sabah Electricity, Wataniah and also financial institutions. Also present were state maritime director First Admiral (maritime) Mohd Khairulanuar Abd Majid @ Razali and Tungku Community Development leader Momen Anghai @ Anchai.
