The Bradenton Area's award-winning beaches and top Florida twin-centres In The Spotlight

Video transcript With Kelly Clark, director of global affairs, Bradenton Area CVB, and TTG Media's Charlotte Cullinan. Charlotte: Hello and welcome to our In The Spotlight video with the Bradenton Area. Kelly, the destination has had a strong recovery since Hurricane Milton hit Florida in 2024, so tell us what visitors can expect now. Kelly: Yeah, so we were actually very fortunate that we didn't have as much damage as originally expected. We had some renovations, we had some debris clean-up, but we are excited to say that we are open for business. And if you didn't know that there was a hurricane, you wouldn't know when you were in the destination. Charlotte: Brilliant. Thank you. And of course, you're famed for your incredible beaches. Give us a flavour of Anna Maria Island. Because that's home to one of your award-winning beaches, isn't it? Kelly: Yes. We have world-class beaches. Our island is seven miles long and about a mile wide in its widest area, so you can look forward to having seven miles of sugar-white sand beaches, turquoise waters, gentle surf. It's just a wonderful place to sit on the beach and relax and enjoy your vacation. And we were really excited, as Anna Maria Island was voted one of the top 10 best islands in the US by Conde Nast Traveller UK. Charlotte: Amazing. Thank you. And talk us through some of the other top selling points that agents can promote to their clients in the destination. Kelly: Sure. Other than world-class beaches we have an amazing culinary scene. We have some of the freshest seafood you're going to find in the United States. We are set in the middle of three natural estuaries, so our sand has so many nutrients, which makes for delicious Floridian-style dining, which is seafood with a little bit of Caribbean spices and a citrus twist. Charlotte: Lovely. Thank you. And tell us a bit about the range of accommodation that's on offer as well. Kelly: Sure. We're really lucky that we have a diverse range of accommodations. So whether you're looking for small boutique-style hotels or resorts, or if you're looking for a full self-catering holiday home, we have plenty to choose from, whether it's a one-bedroom, two-bedroom, or eight-bedroom, we have beautiful beach, cottages, houses, villas, resorts and condos available for rent. Charlotte: Lovely, thank you. And do you have any suggestions for clients who are interested in a twin-centre holiday in Florida? Kelly: Absolutely. I think we're the perfect destination for a twin-city centre because we do offer that laid-back, effortless style which you need after you're in some of the bigger destinations in Florida. So from Orlando, we're about two hours away. And then just 45 minutes south of Tampa, so very close to get to. We're very centrally located on the Gulf of Mexico, so we like to say that we're close to all the major cities, yet you're going to feel very far away when you're in our destination. Charlotte: Oh, brilliant. So it sounds like a really great option for customers who want to relax and unwind after a week in the parks. Kelly: Absolutely. That's perfect. Charlotte: Fabulous. And I know you've got a really high visitor return rate. Tell us about that. Kelly: Yeah we actually have a 94% return rate, so we like to say, visit the Bradenton Area once and you're sure to fall in love with it. It's a great place to make memories and I guarantee you, your heart will be left in the destination. Charlotte: Thank you for that brilliant introduction to the destination, Kelly. And thank you for watching our In The Spotlight video with the Bradenton Area.

‘Johnny's Jog' raises money to support those with chronic illnesses

WEST HARTFORD, Conn (WTNH) — West Hartford continued its St. Patrick's day celebrations Sunday with the annual 'Johnny's Jog' 5K race. The annual event combines a road race with bagpipes, step dancing, free food, a raffle, and more. The race is held in honor of Johnny Moran, who organizers say faced life's challenges with a heartwarming smile and an unyielding spirit. Manchester Road Race donates over $100K in proceeds 'We started and we used to hand-write our own signs, we had about, our first year, maybe 300 participants, 200, and it's just grown,' race organizer Kelly Clark said. 'And everybody comes out every year, and the community shows up, and it's really nice.' Since the race started in 2011, it has raised over $850,000 to support people living with chronic illnesses. Chloe Kim wins 8th X Games snowboard halfpipe title, breaks record

Chloe Kim won her seventh X Games Aspen women's snowboard halfpipe title (and eighth title across all X Games sites), breaking her tie with Kelly Clark for the most in history. Kim, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, scored 93.33 points in her first of two final runs. It included the first double cork in X Games women's halfpipe history, and it held up as the best score through both rounds. She also landed the same cab double cork 1080 in her second run — a victory lap with the win already assured — before falling on her next trick, getting up quickly and smiling as she rode to the bottom of the pipe. "I am having so much fun," Kim said on the broadcast. "I have to be honest, I was in a bit of a rut. I really did not enjoy snowboarding for a couple of years. I think this year I really wanted to change that and just do runs that felt good to me, do tricks that felt good to me. It kind of has been working out, no complaints." Fellow American Maddie Mastro took second with an 89.66-point run that included her signature double crippler (two backflips). Kim is now one title shy of Shaun White's overall record of eight X Games Aspen halfpipe golds. Kim has seven titles at the annual event in Aspen, plus one from an X Games competition in Oslo in 2016. After repeating as Olympic gold medalist in 2022, Kim took one season off from competing. She returned last season and became the first woman to land a 1260 in competition. Then last Saturday, she and Mastro became the first women to land a double cork at any competition in going one-two at the Laax Open in Switzerland. In 2026, Kim can become the first snowboarder to win gold at three consecutive Olympics. QUEEN CHLOE!With #XGamesAspen 2025 gold, @ChloeKim just tied Shaun White for the most SuperPipe gold medals in X Games history. They both own 8, one ahead of Chloe's mentor Kelly Clark and Thursday night's Men's SuperPipe champ Scotty James. Chloe owns 10 medals overall: She's… — X Games (@XGames) January 26, 2025 Also Saturday, Nick Goepper led a U.S. men's ski halfpipe podium sweep with Alex Ferreira and Hunter Hess. Goepper, a three-time Olympic slopestyle medalist, spent 10 months retired in 2023, then switched to halfpipe. American Red Gerard repeated as X Games men's snowboard slopestyle champion, adding to his 2018 Olympic gold medal. Gerard's winning run included a switch backside triple cork 1620 and a backside 1800, according to the broadcast. Canadian Mark McMorris was second for his 24th career Winter X medal across all sites and 20th in Aspen, both outright records. The world's top snowboarders and freeskiers stay in Aspen for the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix next weekend, airing on NBC Sports. Mark McMorris' snowboard career has been record breaking and unbreakable Mark McMorris targets more Olympic glory in 2026 after a medal at the last three Games. Nick Zaccardi, Nick Zaccardi,
