Sam Faiers admits her children don't wear sunscreen as she deems many SPF brands 'harmful' in controversial statement
Sam Faiers has admitted she doesn't put sunscreen on her children as she shared her controversial opinion on SPF on Tuesday. Currently on holiday in Mallorca, the mother-of-three took to Instagram as she responded to a fans question asking what sun tan lotion brand she uses. The former TOWIE star revealed that none of her family use sunscreen as she branded some brands of SPF 'harmful' and full of 'toxic ingredients'. Sharing a snap of her youngest son Edward, two, playing in the shade she wrote: 'So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen. 'Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. Of course if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade... usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat and just avoid those peak hours. 'I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients.' Sam then revealed the alternative way she makes sure her children stay safe in the sun as she added: 'If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. 'But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up, it's good for them. 'That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zinc SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! especially for us ladies because no one wants extra sun damage (I've had my fair share over the years because I am such a sun lover!).' Sam isn't the first celebrity to admit they don't use SPF on their children after Kelsey Parker previously claimed that her children 'don't burn' and wrongly alleged that SPF 'causes skin cancer'. Speaking on her podcast with fellow mum Georgia Jones she said: 'My kids do not wear sun cream.' Instead, she uses 'organic' sun cream to protect her children and claimed they 'do not burn'. Sun cream is so bad', she said, adding that growing up she 'never used to wear sun cream, sun cream causes skin cancer'. 'The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them and they do not burn.' Sam isn't the first celebrity to admit they don't use SPF on their children after Kelsey Parker previously claimed that her children 'don't burn' and wrongly alleged that SPF 'causes skin cancer' Lauryn Goodman also spoke out about sun cream last year after she took to Instagram to tell her followers: 'you're brought up to wear sun cream [to] protect yourself', but 'everything you think you know isn't correct'. She insisted: 'training your skin is key' as she added: 'It's about building up your melanin to handle the sun as well slowly. 'I did it with K [her eldest son] and will do it with little girlie.' Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun'. Dr Bav Shergill a consultant dermatologist at the Queen Victoria Hospital, London and spokesperson for the British Association of Dermatologists hit back at her claims. He previously told the Daily Mail: 'Sunscreens are a safe and effective way to protect your skin from burning and other forms of sun damage. 'Millions of people have used sunscreen over many decades so we can be confident about their safety profile. 'For people with lighter skin tones, there is a common misconception that you can build up a base tan which will protect you. 'A tan is a reaction to sun damage, so to develop a base tan, you have to damage your skin. Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun' 'Evidence also suggests that a "base tan" offers the equivalent of SPF 4 – not enough to provide meaningful protection.' He added: 'If you don't want to use sunscreen, you need to be really on top of other forms of sun protection. 'Make good use of shade, minimise the time you spend out in the sun when the UV index is three or above, and wear clothing that covers your skin. 'These tend to be very effective ways of protecting your skin – though ideally you would use sunscreen in addition to these options as a final line of defence.' Meanwhile Dr Richard Parsons, a senior lecturer in biochemical toxicology at Kings College London, warned that any sun burn still raises the cancer and long term damage risk. He told the Daily Mail last year: 'Building a base tan is fine. But you have still got to have that level of protection. 'If you burn you are still going to increase your chances of getting those DNA mutations which can increase your risk of cancer. 'As you get older, you can get lost elasticity in the skin you can get skin damage like wrinkles. So that's actually lasting damage.' He added: 'We're not talking "I've got a real bad sunburn, but it's ok it'll be gone in a few weeks". That will have lasting implications.'

Kelsey Parker breaks social media silence to share family photo as she heads off on holiday a month after tragically losing her third child
Kelsey Parker has taken a much-needed family holiday one month after tragically losing her third child. Tom Parker 's widow sadly suffered heartbreak in June after her unborn baby - Kelsey's first with boyfriend Will Lindsay - was 'born sleeping.' The last month has been incredibly tough for the family-of-four after the devastating news, with Kelsey sharing that they have taken some needed time out. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, she shared a family photo as she, Will and her two children with Tom - Aurelia, six, and Bodhi, four - looked out to sea in a hot location. Kelsey didn't confirm where they were, but she shouted out budget-friendly airline Jet2 for making the process so easy. The doting mum simply wrote: 'Exactly what we needed. Thank you @jet2 for making it so easy. X' In the comments section, she was showered with love by other stars, including Brooke Vincent and Gogglebox's Lisa Baggs. Last month, Kelsey took to Instagram to share her heartbreaking news. She confirmed the loss of her unborn third child, a son she had planned to name Phoenix, one week before his planned due date. Breaking the news in a poem, she wrote: 'The world grew quiet as you arrived, So loved, so longed for, yet not alive. Our precious boy, our angel light, Born with wings, took silent flight'. 'We named you Phoenix, brave and bright. A soul of love, of warmth and light Though we never heard you cry, You'll live in hearts that won't ask why. 'No breath you drew, no eyes to see, Still, you mean everything to me. You'll journey with us, softly near, in every sigh, in every tear. Taking to her Instagram stories: she added: 'Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt wishes, I wanted to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. 'But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. 'I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space. Love always, Kelsey, Will, and the Parker Family'. Kelsey was left devastated after husband Tom lost his battle with brain cancer, but found love again last year, meeting Kent tree surgeon Will on a night out and announced their romance in September. The podcaster later admitted to being targeted by online trolls for moving on with her new partner. Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, in their first joint interview together in March, she explained: 'It's been three years, this is Tom's three year anniversary of his death and it's almost like people want me to feel guilty for moving on.' She added: 'I'm always going to have guilt but what's so hard is that Tom's not here anymore so what do people want me to do?', 'Our house was full of so much sadness but now it's full of happiness, the kids deserve that more than anything. 'They've been through so much, I feel like we are taking the steps forward to heal but I just want other women to feel like it's OK to move on, it's not taking anything away from the love I had for Tom.'

Montana Brown reveals the bizarre health routine she swears by to 'aid digestion and reduce inflammation'
Montana Brown has revealed her bizarre health routine she swears by in an Instagram video on Friday. The former Love Island star, 29, said she uses a caster oil pack every night before bed to aid digestion and reduce inflammation. Sharing a video of herself removing the pack, Montana flashed her jaw-dropping abs. Montana captioned the post: 'Why I use a castor oil pack every night before bed? 'aids digestion, keeps my skin hydrated overnight to help with excess skin postpartum, cheap!, supports lymphatic drainage, reduces inflammation'. Montana is not the first celebrity to use the oil. In March 2021, Dame Helen Mirren told her followers on Instagram: 'Things I oil. Not for its laxative properties, but for hair, skin, nails.' The former Love Island star said she uses a caster oil pack every night before bed to aid digestion and reduce inflammation Castor oil is widely known to be an excellent natural remedy for constipation, but can also be used to benefit your hair, skin, and face. And in September last year, Kelsey Parker claimed that castor oil had changed her life and was her 'new best friend'. Kelsey, who was married to Tom Parker from The Wanted, before he tragically lost his battle with brain cancer, raved: 'I want to talk about castor oil. 'I have this organic castor oil which has become my new best friend. I was recommended castor oil by 'The Skin Angel', but basically castor oil has changed my life in such a short period of time. 'I use the castor oil as a moisturiser because I am so dry. At the moment I'm looking all nice and shiny because this is what castor oil does. 'It also promotes hair growth, so your eyelashes will grow, you can put it on your eyebrows. Kelsey added: 'Also, it's an anti-inflammatory, it's also an antioxidant and its anti-fungal.' Earlier this year Montana - who is already a mum to Jude one - welcomed her second child, Miley, with her fiancé Mark O'Connor via a home birth. Earlier this year Montana opened up about the challenges of having a home birth when her baby daughter Miley was breech She opened up about the challenges of having a home birth when her baby daughter Miley was breech. Montana said she was advised by her NHS midwives to give birth in hospital but she insisted she wanted to follow her head and heart and stay at home. The reality star enlisted the help of a private doula for her home birth, who assured her both she and her daughter were safe. Montana shared that her home birth was 'magical' but she had felt really when her waters broke due to Miley being breech, with one of the baby's legs popping out first. However she thanked her 'rock' Mark, doula Emiliana and midwife Heather for relaxing her before Miley 'flew out' two pushes later.

‘Crunchy' mum-of-two shamed for showing baby's bronzed tan after admitting she doesn't use ‘toxic suncreams'
A MUM has come under fire after proudly admitting she doesn't slather her kids in ''toxic sunscreen''. Mother-of-two Ellie made the shock confession on TikTok after she was allegedly told her tot was ''so tanned''. 2 Ellie, who describes herself as ''slightly crunchy'', shared a clip of her bronzed son just a month after Kelsey Parker was mum-shamed for a similar confession. In the clip, which has since taken the internet by storm, Ellie said she was well aware her son was tanned. ''I know, it's because we are in the sunshine all day and I don't slather him in toxic sunscreen.'' The mother-of-two went on in the caption: ''Can't believe my 1 year old has a better tan than me! ''We are sun safe, not scared.'' Unfortunately, there are quite a few misconceptions about sun protection that can confuse the issue of using suncream. In particular, some media has reported concern with ingredients oxybenzone, a synthetic estrogen, and retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A stored by the skin. Other stories might talk about vitamin D and risk of sunscreen reducing the amount of this important hormone in the body. "This myth is very concerning to me," said Dr. Cheryl Peters, a senior scientist in cancer prevention at BC Cancer and BCCDC. The expert reassured that there ''is no evidence that approved sunscreens cause cancer or other health problems''. Kelsey Parker mum-shamed for admitting she doesn't put suncream on her kids ''In fact, the opposite is true: not wearing sunscreen poses a significant cancer risk,'' the doctor warned. Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells, and it's the most prevalent form of all cancers in the world. Kids will complain about the lotion and say it is cold or pasty. However, children must get into a routine of applying sunscreen whenever the sun is out, experts insist. Sun safety for kids should be non-negotiable and there are plenty of reasons to not skip this step, such as avoiding sunburn, minimising the risk of melanoma and premature ageing. Advice for adults and children on sunscreen and sun safety in the UK and abroad The experts at the NHS have warned that sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. They state that despite the common misconception, sunburn ''does not just happen on holiday''. This means that you can burn in the UK, even on days when it's cloudy. ''There's no safe or healthy way to get a tan. A tan does not protect your skin from the sun's harmful effects.'' You can find more tips on their website here. 'When did people caring about their kids?' Online, Ellie - who posts under the username @ ellieshomemadehouse - has since come under fire, with hundreds of concerned social media users flooding to slam the mum-of-two. One person said: ''Sun cream doesn't stop you from tanning.. it just stops you from burning.'' Another chimed in: ''I have stage 3 melanoma because of unprotected sun exposure as a child…hope that helps!'' Someone else said: ''My grandma didn't use sun screen because it wasn't really used of her generation. She died of melanoma when my mum was 20.'' ''When did people stop loving and caring about their kids?'' Hitting back at the critics, Ellie said: ''Both of my children are loved beyond comprehension thank you! What a weird comment.'' She has also since clarified that the family does use sun protection in the form of a mineral sunscreen with ingredients the mum trusts.
