Sam Faiers admits her children don't wear sunscreen as she deems many SPF brands 'harmful' in controversial statement
Currently on holiday in Mallorca, the mother-of-three took to Instagram as she responded to a fans question asking what sun tan lotion brand she uses.
The former TOWIE star revealed that none of her family use sunscreen as she branded some brands of SPF 'harmful' and full of 'toxic ingredients'.
Sharing a snap of her youngest son Edward, two, playing in the shade she wrote: 'So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen.
'Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. Of course if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade... usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat and just avoid those peak hours.
'I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients.'
Sam then revealed the alternative way she makes sure her children stay safe in the sun as she added: 'If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option.
'But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up, it's good for them.
'That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zinc SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! especially for us ladies because no one wants extra sun damage (I've had my fair share over the years because I am such a sun lover!).'
Sam isn't the first celebrity to admit they don't use SPF on their children after Kelsey Parker previously claimed that her children 'don't burn' and wrongly alleged that SPF 'causes skin cancer'.
Speaking on her podcast with fellow mum Georgia Jones she said: 'My kids do not wear sun cream.'
Instead, she uses 'organic' sun cream to protect her children and claimed they 'do not burn'.
Sun cream is so bad', she said, adding that growing up she 'never used to wear sun cream, sun cream causes skin cancer'.
'The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them and they do not burn.'

Lauryn Goodman also spoke out about sun cream last year after she took to Instagram to tell her followers: 'you're brought up to wear sun cream [to] protect yourself', but 'everything you think you know isn't correct'.
She insisted: 'training your skin is key' as she added: 'It's about building up your melanin to handle the sun as well slowly.
'I did it with K [her eldest son] and will do it with little girlie.'
Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun'.
Dr Bav Shergill a consultant dermatologist at the Queen Victoria Hospital, London and spokesperson for the British Association of Dermatologists hit back at her claims.
He previously told the Daily Mail: 'Sunscreens are a safe and effective way to protect your skin from burning and other forms of sun damage.
'Millions of people have used sunscreen over many decades so we can be confident about their safety profile.
'For people with lighter skin tones, there is a common misconception that you can build up a base tan which will protect you.
'A tan is a reaction to sun damage, so to develop a base tan, you have to damage your skin.
Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun'
'Evidence also suggests that a "base tan" offers the equivalent of SPF 4 – not enough to provide meaningful protection.'
He added: 'If you don't want to use sunscreen, you need to be really on top of other forms of sun protection.
'Make good use of shade, minimise the time you spend out in the sun when the UV index is three or above, and wear clothing that covers your skin.
'These tend to be very effective ways of protecting your skin – though ideally you would use sunscreen in addition to these options as a final line of defence.'
Meanwhile Dr Richard Parsons, a senior lecturer in biochemical toxicology at Kings College London, warned that any sun burn still raises the cancer and long term damage risk.
He told the Daily Mail last year: 'Building a base tan is fine. But you have still got to have that level of protection.
'If you burn you are still going to increase your chances of getting those DNA mutations which can increase your risk of cancer.
'As you get older, you can get lost elasticity in the skin you can get skin damage like wrinkles. So that's actually lasting damage.'
He added: 'We're not talking "I've got a real bad sunburn, but it's ok it'll be gone in a few weeks". That will have lasting implications.'

Jessie J rushed to hospital just six weeks after breast cancer surgery
Singer Jessie J has been rushed to hospital just six weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer, as she shared a photo from her hospital bed Chart-topping artist Jessie J has disclosed that she's been taken to hospital, just six weeks after having an operation for breast cancer. Earlier in the year, the singer had informed her followers that she was cancer-free following the procedure. Yet, the 37 year old songstress has now shared that she found herself back in the medical facility, where clinicians discovered an infection and fluid in her lungs, alongside a snapshot of her in the hospital bed. "6 weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned," she divulged on Instagram. Jessie explained that despite symptoms suggesting a pulmonary embolism, thankfully, it was not the case. "I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD." In addition, Jessie stated that after undergoing numerous tests, doctors concluded she has an infection and "a little fluid" on her lungs. She continued: "Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient.", reports the Mirror. Taking to her Instagram story once more, Jessie candidly spoke about the tough road to recovery post-breast cancer surgery. She confessed: "The recovery, physically, is far from quick or easy, and mentally, it's been the most challenging time for me." She also touched upon the struggles of motherhood during this period, saying: "Especially being a mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am." Jessie expressed her dismay at having to alter her professional plans for the year and mentioned that while.

‘10 years after Poldark, I hope my brooding period drama fills the void'
Sam Claflin has been a familiar face on our screens for over a decade. He won the hearts of Hunger Games fans as Finnick Odair in the dystopian film franchise, left cinemagoers heartbroken opposite Emilia Clarke in Me Before You, and gave a sinister performance as real-life fascist politician Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinders. Now, the 39-year-old is playing arguably his most vengeful role yet, becoming the latest actor to embody Alexandre Dumas' legendary literary character Edmond Dantès in The Count of Monte Cristo. Metro recently spoke to Sam about portraying the compelling character, remarking how ever since Poldark began 10 years ago, it's felt as though there's been a gap on TV for a new brooding period drama… and perhaps The Count of Monte Cristo could fill that void. 'I definitely hope so. I know there have been shows like Bridgerton that have brought a fresh edge to the genre, but I think there's always an audience for these classic retellings,' he responds. 'As a kid who grew up watching The Three Musketeers and being such a fan of Alexander Dumas' previous works, that world and that era is strangely exciting and almost fantastical, because it feels much before our time. So it almost feels like a history lesson.' It was apparently evident during our Zoom call how big a fan I am of dark period dramas, as he then added: 'You can only hope that audiences are craving as much as you seem to be, but I definitely feel like it has all the elements that could, could make it a must-watch.' Like us, Sam couldn't believe it when he took stock of the fact that Poldark – which shot Aidan Turner to a stratospheric level of fame as the scything army captain Ross Poldark – is 10 years old. 'I definitely am like you. I love historical drama. But I guess we haven't had that much,' he says. 'I remember when it was all the rage, it put Aidan Turner on the map. It was a great series.' Edmond Dantès has been depicted multiple times in films and TV shows over the years, with actors who've taken on the role including the likes of John Gilbert, Richard Chamberlain and Jim Caviezel. The character embarks on a warpath for revenge when he's wrongfully imprisoned for several years and separated from the love of his life. When Edmond returns to society, he's transformed into the Count of Monte Cristo and is a shadow of the man he was before. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'It's known as a classic for a reason,' Sam shares. 'The characters are so rich and complex, and that's not just Edmond's character, but every single character within the story, the subplots and sidelines. 'It's just an incredibly authentic insight into what life was like back then in France, the politics, as much as seeing how the nobility lived.' In recent years, some of Sam's biggest projects have included starring as rockstar Billy Dunne in Daisy Jones and the Six, and as Sherlock's brother Mycroft Holmes in Enola Holmes, alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill. He has no shortage of iconic roles under his belt – but for him, The Count of Monte Cristo was a 'dream job'. 'There's so many layers to him', he explains. 'The whole story is him pretending or acting as another character, even though he's someone else – it was quite a head spin. Am I Edmond, or am I still the Count of Monte Cristo? It was a challenge, but one that I was very excited to get my teeth stuck into.' In the early stages of his career, Sam admits that he tended to go for roles that he felt would take him 'as far away from myself as possible', so that he could 'hide behind the characters that I was playing and disappear in them'. 'Or at least thought I was trying to do my best to do that,' he shares. 'But actually, and this is me looking back in reflection, I feel that it loses some of its authenticity when you're completely hiding.' So in recent years, he's tried to lean more towards characters that he can relate to on a deeper level, or who have had similar experiences to him, or someone that he knows. More Trending 'I don't know anyone who has been as vengeful as Edmond Dantès. But I definitely found myself more recently being more drawn to roles that are modern-day and men rather than boys, if that makes sense,' he states. 'Up until recently, I kept feeling like scripts were coming across my desk looking for someone in their mid-20s who is a boy turning into a man. I'm like, no, I'm 39, those stories have got to stop. 'I have new strings to my bow. I'm a dad, and I've lived a life and navigated a lot of things that I feel I can bring to my art or storytelling that will feel authentic and real rather than pretending.'
