George Holani had explosive first half against Raiders

The Seattle Seahawks currently lead the Las Vegas Raiders 16-3 at halftime, and second year running back George Holani has been the driving force behind this performance. Against the Raiders' defense - which featured many starters - Holani bulldozed his way to 61 yards on seven carries. On the opening drive, Holani had a 20 yard rush, and on the second possession, he scampered his way to a 24-yard score. With Kenneth Walker III sidelined with the rest of Seattle's primary starters, and with Kenny McIntosh on the Injured Reserve list, the opportunity at the running back position is wide open. So far, Holani is sprinting full-speed through said window of opportunity. Last year, the Seahawks cut Holani but were able to sign him back to their practice squad. If they make a similar decision at the end of August, they won't be so lucky to keep him. The rest of the NFL will certainly notice this performance. Don't expect Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III to play in preseason opener

The Seattle Seahawks will play their preseason opener this week, against the Las Vegas Raiders at Lumen Field on Thursday evening. Head coach Mike Macdonald has yet to discuss whether or not the starters will play any reps. Either way, don't anticipate starting running back Kenneth Walker III to suit up. The Seahawks held another training camp practice on Monday afternoon. Walker III remained sidelined. Head coach Mike Macdonald had previously stated during Saturday's scrimmage that Walker III was dealing with foot soreness. It remains an ongoing problem. It marked Walker's fourth consecutive missed practice. Expect the Seahawks to continue playing it safe with Walker's health. Their Week 1 regular-season opener is scheduled for Sunday, September 7th, more than a month away. Injuries derailed Walker's 2024 campaign, limiting him to career lows in rushing attempts (153), yards (573), rushing touchdowns (7), and games played (11). The former Michigan State standout is entering a contract year. Staying healthy is imperative to determining his future in Seattle. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is implementing his system. It would be beneficial if Walker was healthy and an active participant at practice. Understandably given his checkered track record, the Seahawks are taking the cautious route with Walker. 2025 NFC West RB duo rankings

It is the time of the offseason, as we have done for years here on Cards Wire, where we go through each position and rank players and position groups in the NFC West. We continue by looking at the top running back duos for the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Not much has changed since last season. The only difference from the start of last season is that the 49ers now have Isaac Guerendo as the primary backup running back instead of Elijah Mitchell or Jordan Mason. Advertisement NFL RB duo rankings: NFC West 1. 49ers: Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo Based on our starting running back and backup running back rankings, this makes sense. McCaffrey is the top starting back in the division, assuming he has recovered fully from last season's injuries. Guerendo is the top backup, too. With the top starter and top backup, combined with probably the best running scheme in the league, this makes sense. 2. Cardinals: James Conner, Trey Benson Conner was third in the starting RB rankings we did behind the Rams' Kyren Williams, but it wasn't by much. He is been a more dynamic and efficient runner than Williams but not as productive. Benson is No. 3 in backups but has starter potential and his production late in the season gives the Cardinals a pairing very similar to the Niners. Advertisement 3. Seahawks: Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet Walker was the lowest-ranked starter but Charbonnet was No. 2 as a backup. Both are productive in the run game and passing game. 4. Rams: Kyren Williams, Blake Corum Williams had nearly 1,300 yards and rushed for 14 scores but Corum had the lowest rushing production and per-carry average of all the backups. The Rams' rushing attack was more workhorse than explosive. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. PFF: Seahawks have top-5 backfield in NFL

The Seattle Seahawks struggled to run the football last season. The ground game finished 28th in the league, averaging 95.7 yards per contest. It wasn't due to a lack of talent in the backfield, with both Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet being effective in doses. Poor offensive line play and inexperienced play-calling didn't help the Seahawks establish the run. An injury to Walker also left the backfield occasionally shorthanded. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is hoping to implement a ground-and-pound approach. Pro Football Focus recently ranked every running back room in the NFL. Somewhat surprisingly given last season's results, the Seahawks' backfield placed fifth. "Seattle quietly possesses one of the NFL's deepest running back rooms," Dalton Wasserman wrote. "That unit includes Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh and seventh-round rookie Damien Martinez. Walker tied for fourth in the NFL with a 91.3 PFF rushing grade last season, though he appeared in only 11 games. Charbonnet also placed among the top 20 with his 78.8 PFF rushing grade. Martinez could be an interesting addition to the unit after ranking third in the FBS with a 94.4 PFF rushing grade at Miami last season." Adding Damien Martinez to the room improved the overall standing. The Seahawks also have terrific depth, with Kenny McIntosh giving the Seahawks four NFL-caliber options. The Seahawks desperately need to improve their rushing attack in 2025.
