Claims against pop star Kenshin Kamimura ‘exaggerated', Hong Kong court hears

An interpreter for Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura exaggerated her evidence against him in his indecent assault trial in Hong Kong, defence lawyers have said in closing their case before dozens of fans. The defence on Thursday advanced closing remarks at West Kowloon Court after Kamimura decided not to testify about the alleged incident that led to his expulsion from Japanese boy band ONE N' ONLY and kept him in the city since March this year. The trial, which began on Wednesday , continued to attract hundreds of spectators, most of whom were fans of the 26-year-old artist. More than 200 admission tickets set aside for the public were distributed, but many of the court attendees were asked to watch a live broadcast of the hearing on separate floors of the court building. Kamimura appeared gaunt but relaxed throughout the two-hour hearing. Some fans broke down in tears upon seeing their idol walk past them during court adjournments. The defendant has denied a count of indecent assault for allegedly groping an interpreter at a fan meeting in Hong Kong while the organisers and staff celebrated their success at a restaurant in Mong Kok. The interpreter alleged the Japanese star repeatedly made swiping and tapping motions to touch her left thigh at Ming Kee Restaurant in the early hours of March 2, ignoring her cues that she did not welcome his advances.

Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura molested interpreter, Hong Kong court hears

Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura molested a female interpreter and made unwelcome advances after a fan event in Hong Kong earlier this year, a court has heard. Kamimura, a former member of Japanese boy band ONE N' ONLY, returned to West Kowloon Court on Wednesday to stand trial for a count of indecent assault arising from an alleged incident at Ming Kee Restaurant in Mong Kok in the early hours of March 2. The courtroom was packed on Wednesday, with the 316 tickets set aside for public seating all distributed. Most of the public attendees were from mainland China and arrived with luggage and bulky-looking backpacks. Some of them were told off by security staff for trying to make instant noodles during court adjournments. The complainant, who testified for the prosecution through a live video link, said she had provided interpretation for Kamimura and 20-year-old Japanese actor Junsei Motojima during a fan meeting at Regala Skycity Hotel the previous day. The court heard the two celebrities and their assistants had gone to the restaurant to celebrate the event's success. The interpreter said Kamimura repeatedly made swiping and tapping motions to touch her left thigh after joining her table of nine people.

J-pop star Kenshin Kamimura pleads not guilty to indecent assault in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, April 15 (Reuters) - J-pop star Kenshin Kamimura pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault before a Hong Kong court on Tuesday, after he was accused of assaulting a woman at a Hong Kong restaurant in March. Kamimura, 25, is a former member of the six-member boy group ONE N' ONLY but was fired by his management agency, Stardust Promotion in March over "the discovery of a serious compliance violation", according to the company statement. Kamimura's hands were shaking before the hearing began, and he broke out in tears after loudly pleading "not guilty" at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court. When Magistrate Li Chi-ho asked if he needed a break, he said he could continue, adding "no problem" in Hong Kong's Cantonese language. Under Hong Kong law, indecent assault carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment. Reuters was unable to reach Kamimura's lawyers for comment. Dozens of his fans started queuing up outside the court early in the morning to get passes to enter the courtroom. Some said they had flown in from Japan and China to see the star, known for his role in the Japanese drama "Our Youth". A judiciary clerk said they have given away over 170 passes. Kamimura was granted bail, with the next hearing scheduled for July 31 and expected to last 3 days. According to the charge sheet seen by Reuters, he was charged with indecently assaulting a woman in a restaurant in the city's busy Mong Kok district on March 2 this year. The charge sheet did not provide further details.
