ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A 15-year-old is in custody after a chase involving a stolen car on Monday morning, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. In the early morning hours of Monday, Rockingham County deputies got into a chase with a stolen Kia Sedona out of Caswell County. Investigators say the chase began on NC 87 near the Caswell County line and went into Reidsville at speeds of over 100 mph. Deputies took the teen into custody with the assistance of the Reidsville Police Department after he lost control of the car and crashed into a telephone pole on Price Street in Reidsville. The teen was not hurt as a result of the crash and neither were any officers during the chase. A juvenile petition for the teen suspect was obtained and he is in the custody of juvenile justice, where a secure custody hearing will take place later this week for crimes committed in Rockingham County. The teen will also be facing charges from Caswell County as well as probation violations in Guilford County. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Elderly woman killed after being rolled over by her car in San Jose

The Brief Bella Vierra, 78, was killed after being rolled over by her car in San Jose. It happened at the corner of Lyric Lane and Otono Court. The CDC recommends that older drivers, if possible, use alternatives to driving, like ride-share or public transportation. SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Police say a 78-year-old woman was killed on Friday after her car rolled over her. It happened near the corner of Lyric Lane and Otono Court in South San Jose. This is the eighth traffic death in San Jose this year, but police say this accident was especially tragic because an elderly woman was killed by her own car. Someone left flowers near the scene of the accident in her memory. "Any place that was on a slope, I rejected because I knew it would be very scary to park," said Minoo Jha, of San Jose. Jha says she lives on a street nearby without a steep hill but frequently walks on Lyric Lane, where Bella Vierra died after being rolled over by her car. She says she heard about Vierra's death and wants older drivers to take more precautions behind the wheel. "Steep hills are very tricky for drivers and the older you get, the more vulnerable you are," said Jha. What we know On Monday, San Jose Police held a news conference and said Vierra parked her car on the street and as she got out, her 2006 red Kia Sedona started rolling backwards. "When the driver was exiting the vehicle, the vehicle began moving and subsequently knocked the driver over and rolled over her. Medical personnel responded to the scene, and unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene," said Stacie Shih, San Jose Police Dept. spokesperson. One neighbor told KTVU she believes she saw Vierra on the road just before the accident. When she got home, she saw police cars on her block. "I just thought it was one of those confused, older people trying to drive or whatnot. It was like a shorter person," said Marielle Deguzman, of San Jose. By the numbers The CDC says 25 older adults are killed in traffic crashes each day in the U.S. It also recommends that older drivers get annual eye exams and, if possible, use alternatives to driving like ride-share or public transportation. "It's unfortunate that we had this fatal collision. It's just a tragedy," said Shih. The Dept. of Motor Vehicles also says drivers should use the emergency or parking brake if parking on a hill. San Jose Police say they don't know what caused the accident, but they'll continue to investigate. The Source San Jose Police Dept., Santa Clara County Medical Examiner, CDC, California DMV

Man shot, killed after leading police on chase in AR

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot by an Arkansas trooper and officers after leading them on a high-speed car chase from Poinsett County to Crittenden County on Thursday. On Mar. 20, Poinsett County Sheriff's deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Joe Versie, 54, for reckless driving, and Harrisburg Police joined the pursuit before Arkansas State Police was requested. According to ASP in a press release, an ASP trooper ended the chase with a tactical vehicle intervention on I-55 near the 3-mile marker. Fatal hit-and-run crash leaves one dead ASP said that while Versie was driving his Kia Sedona, he stopped in the median, and his car caught on fire. As officers were trying to put out the fire, he continued to remain in his vehicle, ignored commands, and started to move toward the rear doors. Versie told officers he had a weapon, and when he tried to reach for it the ASP trooper, PCSO, and HPD officers shot him. He was pronounced dead on the scene. ASP Troopers and other officers involved were not injured. Versie will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm the manner and cause of death. ASP said that an investigative case file will be presented to the Crittenden County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law. 1 dead, 3 injured in crash that caused shutdown on Interstate 4

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man has died, and three passengers were injured in a vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, resulting in the shutdown of all westbound lanes on Interstate 4. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 48-year-old Ruskin man was driving a Kia Sedona heading west on I-4. East of I-275, at Milepost 1, the Kia veered onto the inside shoulder and collided with an attenuator. FHP said the vehicle was then redirected back into the travel lanes before crashing into a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 21-year-old Parrish man, also traveling west on I-4 in the inside lane. FHP said the driver of the Kia died at the scene. The three passengers traveling with him all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The driver of the Nissan was unharmed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
