1 dead, 3 injured in crash that caused shutdown on Interstate 4
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man has died, and three passengers were injured in a vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, resulting in the shutdown of all westbound lanes on Interstate 4.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 48-year-old Ruskin man was driving a Kia Sedona heading west on I-4.
East of I-275, at Milepost 1, the Kia veered onto the inside shoulder and collided with an attenuator.
FHP said the vehicle was then redirected back into the travel lanes before crashing into a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 21-year-old Parrish man, also traveling west on I-4 in the inside lane.
FHP said the driver of the Kia died at the scene.
The three passengers traveling with him all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The driver of the Nissan was unharmed.

Kia EV Pickup: Everything We Know So Far About the New Electric Truck
If you're considering buying an electric vehicle, but you still need to haul things, there's a new Kia electric pickup truck coming to North America that you may want to wait for. While the plucky Kia Tasman truck released last year had a polarizing design, it was still considered a success. Now, Kia is celebrating by releasing a second pickup truck -- this time, an EV. Details are fairly slim right now. "Kia plans to introduce an EV pickup truck based on a new EV platform designed for both urban and outdoor use," the company said in April. "The vehicle will feature best-in-class interior and cargo space, a robust towing system, off-road capabilities and advanced infotainment and safety features." The inclusion of off-road capabilities would set the EV apart from the Hyundai Santa Fe, which is the only pickup truck that Kia or its sister company sells in the US. It'll be on a new EV platform, so it will also be set apart from the company's current EV offerings, like the Kia EV6. The infotainment will likely be similar to current Kia EVs and vehicles like the dual-display technology in the more recent Sportage SUV. Kia last week also showcased its more affordable EV sedan, with CNET on hand to see the latest 2026 Kia EV4. A Kia spokesperson told CNET in June that it has nothing new to reveal just yet on the Kia EV pickup truck. Will the Kia electric pickup truck be available in the US? Per the statement, Kia is expecting to sell roughly 90,000 of these new EV pickups per year, a lofty goal in a market where the Ford F-150 Lightning is barely hitting 30,000 units sold. By most accounts, it's an ambitious sales goal to hit for a vehicle that'll represent Kia's first attempt at appeasing the US truck buyer market. However, there is still room for optimism. "The models built on the eGMP line sold over 100,000 units in 2024," said Liz Najman, director of market insights at Recurrent, a company that offers independent insights on EV performance. "Moreover, like the EV6, Kia pickups will likely be made in the US, helping avoid costly tariffs that will drive up prices for consumers. It is likely that price will be a major factor for consumers in the coming years." Najman also said trucks were the two top-selling vehicles in 2024, so it's possible Kia can reach these sales goals, provided that the automaker can hit that sweet spot of competitive pricing and capability. "Electric vehicles are seeing strong sales numbers when they deliver on what customers want," she said, highlighting that with electric car sales, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Jeep Wrangler PHEV each sold over 50,000 units in 2024 and the Tesla Model 3 and the Model Y sold over 150,000 and 370,000 units, respectively.

Kia takes pre-orders of new battery-powered PV5
Kia Corporation began taking pre-orders for its new PV5 van/minibus range in South Korea, the first in a series of battery-powered purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) the company plans to launch over the next few years based on Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP dedicated electric platform. The PV5 is a mid-sized PBV designed both for personal use, such as commuting and leisure activities, and also as a commercial van for last-mile logistics. It will initially be available in two main configurations, passenger and cargo. It uses Kia's new Flexible Body System, which features modular components allowing customized seating and cargo area layouts to closely meet user needs. It is powered by a 120 kW electric motor and a 71 kWh battery pack, giving it a maximum driving range of 358 km on a single charge. The van version, which has a spacious cargo area and low loading height, is available in three trims, compact, long and high roof, with prices starting at around US 19,000. Prices for the passenger model start at around US$ 22,000. "Kia takes pre-orders of new battery-powered PV5" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand. Kia's Sales Soar: Drivers Can't Get Enough of These 3 Models
Most automakers don't release monthly sales results, but Kia, a longstanding exception alongside its sister company, Hyundai, has posted promising delivery numbers for May. Last month, Kia sold 269,148 units, up 1.7% year-over-year. Outside of Korea, Kia moved 223,817 units, a 2.6% annual increase. Kia SUVs such as the Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento stood out in May, selling 48,091, 26,017, and 21,889 units, respectively, while combined sales of the K4 and K3 outside of Korea totaled 17,641 examples. One sedan, Kia's K5, has also been making a splash with a 256% year-over-year increase in May. Kia padded its sales by launching its EV3 electric SUV, which won World Car of the Year at the 2025 World Car Awards, alongside the EV4 electric sedan and the Tasman pickup. However, Kia's domestic sales experienced a 2.4% year-over-year decrease. The Sorento was the biggest hit in Korea during May, selling 7,734 units, followed by the Carnival MPV at 6,651 units and the Sportage at 5,295 units. Overall, this year held Kia's best Q1 numbers in history. In 2024, Kia sold over 780,000 units in the U.S.-the company's all-time high, Tork reports. The automaker's strong 2024 performance also marked the seventh consecutive year that it experienced retail sales growth. Increased quality, new models, and evolving brand perception are driving Kia's global sales success, but Kia's flagship all-electric model, the EV9, sold just 37 U.S. examples in May, representing a 98.3% year-over-year decline. Additionally, sales of Kia's electric EV6 have been down 40.8% in the U.S. during the first five months, nearing the EV9's 48.2% sales drop during the same period. Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, said that the EV9's new 2026 Nightfall Edition and the GT-Line model with a two-tone roof are among the incentives that should spur the model's sales growth. For its 4th of July event, Kia is selling the 2025 Niro EV with a 0% APR finance offer for 72 months and a $7,500 cash incentive. The brand also offers 1.9% APR for 60 months and a $500 cash bonus on select trims as part of its holiday specials. Kia has achieved success in recent years by transforming its image, with Peter Schreyer playing a central role as Chief Design Officer from 2006 to 2012 and Chief Design Officer of the Hyundai Motor Group, which oversees Kia, from 2012 to 2018. Before working at Kia, Schreyer was head of the Volkswagen Group's Potsdam, Germany, studio. In 2006, Schreyer was given the opportunity to rebuild Kia's design direction from scratch, with his modern, sleek, and balanced designs leading Kia's global annual sales increase from 1.6 million to 3 million units between 2009 and 2016, according to Autocar. One of the influential designer's key contributions to Kia was the wide tiger nose front grille with top and bottom indents in the center, something he describes as "a frontal element so strong that you wouldn't even need a Kia badge as an identifier."
