South Africa end Boan Venter Scotland Six Nations hopes
He has impressed for the capital side and having joined in 2021 would have qualified to play for Scotland on residency grounds by 2026. But any hopes of having him involved will end when he takes to the field for the Springboks. The Kimberley-born former Cheetahs star was called up last month as part of a 45-man squad for the summer internationals against Italy. But, after not handing Venter any involvement during the two wins, head coach Rassie Erasmus has decided to alter his front row. Venter is due to line up alongside another uncapped duo in Marnus van der Merwe and Neethling Fouche. Read more: South Africa will face the Georgians at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. Erasmus explained his team selection: 'We wanted to make sure that Siya is 100 per cent fit before selecting him, so it's great to have him back in the squad, while Boan, Marnus, and Neethling have been training hard and deserve their chance. 'Marnus and Neethling played against the Barbarians, so they have an idea of what international rugby is about, while Boan has shown great potential at club level and with the squad in the last few weeks, and we are looking forward to seeing him play. 'Building squad depth has been one of our pillars as a squad since 2018, and they are all undoubtedly ready to make the step-up. 'We know how passionate and intense this Georgian side is, and they will be determined to make a strong statement, so we selected some experienced players who we would like to get more game time before the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, and a few of the younger players, who have put up their hands another run, so we are pleased with the balance we have in this group. 'Georgia are a tough outfit, and they pride themselves on their physicality and brute force in the collisions, so the set pieces, mauls, and breakdowns will be key areas. 'They also have quality backline players to round off their team, so we need to be sharp in all the departments of our game to ensure that we continue to lift our standards, build momentum, and get the desired result.'

Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ By moving to the Saudi Pro League, more eyes will be on the Kimberley-born Nkota. While his salary and transfer fee have not been made public, a player around Nkota's age at Al-Ettifaq can be paid as much as R6.5 million a year. According to the Capology portal, the lowest-paid player at the club earns around R2.5 million per year. The Saudi Pro League has made headlines in recent years due to a number of high-profile transfers. One of these players is global football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Other players who have moved to the Middle East are Neymar, Ivan Toney, and Karim Benzema. Nkota's new club, Al-Ettifaq, who finished seventh last season, are captained by former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum. Former Lyon and Fulham forward Mousa Dembélé is also on their books. Al-Ettifaq are not one of the bigger clubs in Saudi Arabia, but they have tasted silverware. They've won the Saudi Pro League twice, but the last time they lifted the trophy was in 1987, 17 years before Nkota was born. So, what do we know about Nkota's new club? Unlike the likes of Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ittihad, they are not as cash-rich, as they're not owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. However, the club is under the control of the country's sports ministry. For the upcoming 2025/26 season, they will be under a new manager in Saad Al-Shehri. The previous manager, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, left by mutual consent after 18 months in charge. With more eyes on Nkota's talents, he will be hoping to earn more Bafana Bafana call-ups in the future, and perhaps one day a move to Europe. Nkota's move is a big step for him, and it shows just how much South African talent is being noticed beyond our shores. It won't be easy, but if he can prove himself in Saudi Arabia, there's no telling where his career could go next. Fans will be watching closely, hoping he makes the most of this opportunity. While the Soweto giants continue their pre-season preparations in Spain under newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the club has opted to part ways with one of its standout young talents. In an official statement, Pirates revealed. 'Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached for the permanent transfer of Mohau Nkota to Ettifaq Club in the Saudi Pro League.' The 20-year-old, currently with the Buccaneers on their European tour, is expected to finalise the deal shortly. 'The move is subject to the 20-year-old agreeing to personal terms and passing a medical,' Pirates stated, signalling that only formalities remain before Nkota completes the switch. 'Nkota's departure comes after a standout debut season in the Buccaneers' senior squad, where he featured in 39 official matches and registered 12 goal contributions,' the club reiterated. Nkota quickly became a fan favourite with memorable performances both locally and in the CAF Champions League. 'He's a millionaire at 20': Orlando Pirates fans react to Nkota's departure
Orlando Pirates fans have expressed mixed reactions to the club's decision to sell winger Mohau Nkota. The 20-year-old scored seven goals across all competitions last campaign for the Buccaneers in his debut season. On Sunday, the club confirmed that Nkota would join Ettifaq Club in the Saudi Pro League after agreeing on personal terms and passing medicals. 'Nkota's departure comes after a standout debut season in the Buccaneers' senior squad, where he featured in 39 official matches and registered 12 goal contributions,' the club wrote on their website 'Promoted to the first team at the start of the 2024/25 campaign following a stellar showing with the Club's DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side, the Kimberley-born attacker quickly made his mark. He (Nkota) made his senior debut on October 19, 2024, in the Carling Black Label Cup clash against Magesi FC, coming off the bench at halftime to replace Monnapule Saleng,' said Orlando Pirates. Nkota's departure will give more space for new signings such as Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi. The duo were signed earlier this month after the transfer window opened. As soon as the club announced the winger's departure, some fans were upset by the decision. 'Have you ever had a moment where you dont know to celebrate or be sad?I have already accepted that Rele has to go. I wasn't expecting Mohau to go now,' @blaq_maestro tweeted. 'Orlando Pirates has left us very very short now. By sending Saleng on loan we don't have a replacement for Nkota,' @GustavoNinela. The majority of football fans on X (Twitter) felt that the player deserved to move after his impressive debut season. Nkota becomes the first Orlando Pirates player to be sold to a Saudi Pro League team.
