Georgia football scheduled to play five ranked opponents

The Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to play against five ranked opponents during the 2025 college football season. Georgia will also play two other teams that received votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart don't have to face a grueling road schedule like they did in 2024, but UGA will play a lot of tough games at home, which is expected to put Georgia's 31-game (nation's longest) home winning streak in jeopardy. Georgia begins the 2025 campaign with games against two non-Power Four opponents in Marshall (Aug. 30) and Austin Peay (Sept. 6). The Dawgs will then face nine Power Four opponents over the final 10 weeks of the regular season. Seven of Georgia's nine Power Four opponents received votes in the preseason Coaches Poll, but only five received enough votes to be ranked. Both Auburn (50 votes) and Georgia Tech (27 votes) received among the top 40 most votes in the poll. Every ranked opponent on Georgia's schedule No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers (Sept. 13) Georgia plays Tennessee in the Bulldogs' first road game of the season. The Georgia-Tennessee game will be the first SEC game for both teams. Both Georgia and Tennessee made the College Football Playoff last season and are breaking in new starting quarterbacks. Tennessee is the only ranked opponent (in the preseason poll) Georgia has to play on the road all season. No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide (Sept. 27) Georgia will look to change its fortune against Alabama. Both Georgia and Alabama have bye weeks ahead of their critical matchup in Week 5. Georgia will look to snap its losing streak against Alabama in front of a big crowd at Sanford Stadium. No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels (Oct. 18) Ole Miss dominated Georgia in 2024 and the Bulldogs will look to return the favor in 2025. Ole Miss lost a lot of talent to the 2025 NFL draft, but Lane Kiffin and company reloaded via the transfer portal. This should be a fun one in Athens. No. 17 Florida Gators (Nov. 1) Georgia meets Florida in Jacksonville after both teams have bye weeks. The Gators have one of the toughest schedules in the country, but have been slowly closing the gap on Georgia in recent years. Will Florida be able to beat Georgia for the first time since 2020? We'll find out in early November. No. 1 Texas Longhorns (Nov. 15) QB Arch Manning and Texas roll into Athens looking to get the better of Georgia after going 0-2 against the Dawgs in 2024. Texas will be making its first ever trip to Georgia as a member of the SEC and looks like a national championship contender. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads!

Kirby Smart weighs in on Georgia's drops issue

The Georgia Bulldogs led the nation in dropped passes last year, with 36 total dropped passes. When Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked about what caused the problem with dropped passes, he didn't mince words: 'There's a lot of times that (a dropped pass) is mental and technical — you can have both — and we try to help them both ways,' Smart said during his appearance on Atlanta's WZGC-FM, 92.9 FM The Game. 'The biggest thing is getting confidence in practice so that you can have confidence in games. You get confidence by your habits, right?' 'I think last year that's a cumulative effect of like 'Oh God, oh God, oh God it's going to happen. I think they did it to themselves. You can get in your own head, hitters do it, pitchers do it …. it's something we have to work really hard on with the guys to gain confidence.' Smart believes wide receivers can more assurance in their catching abilities if they execute in practice, whether that's through the JUGS machine or through pulling in contested catches. Georgia overhauled its receiving core from last year. USC transfer Zachariah Branch and Texas A&M transfer Noah Thomas replace Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett, who each had nine drops and are on NFL rosters. Dillon Bell, who had eight last year, is still on the Georgia Bulldogs' roster, but he'll be looking to gain more consistency if he wins a camp battle with Colbie Young. Georgia has plenty of talent in its wide receiver room. This article originally appeared on UGA Wire: Georgia football coach Kirby Smart weighs in on Georgia's drop issues

Georgia Bulldogs OL ranked among college football's biggest athletic freaks

The Georgia Bulldogs are set to field one of the most talented rosters in college football this season, continuing their trend of producing NFL-caliber players under head coach Kirby Smart. A key area of interest is the offensive line, which lost four starters to the NFL this offseason. However, according to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, the Bulldogs will feature one of the sport's most athletic players in offensive lineman Micah Morris, who was ranked No. 96 on Feldman's list of the 101 biggest athletic freaks in college football. Feldman highlights Morris's impressive physical stats, noting that the 6-foot-4, 330-pound redshirt senior is considered the program's biggest "freak." Morris has benched 420 pounds for two reps, squatted 505 pounds for two reps, and recorded a 28-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-6 broad jump. While the Bulldogs are replacing multiple starters on the line, Morris brings valuable experience. He has rotated at the guard position over the past two seasons, starting five games in 2024 and playing in 13 of 14 games in 2023. This experience is expected to be a major asset as he steps into a full-time starting role this year. "I think to see them gel and playing with a chip on their shoulder," said Smart when asked about the Georgia offensive line. "When we talk about playing with an edge, passion, fire and energy. PFE is one of the things we're looking for. No greater position that you possess passion, fire and energy than the offensive line. There is something about breaking someone's will or saying I have to move you from point A to point B, and movement is exactly that. Movement is what creates one game." Morris is a key factor in how the UGA offensive line will look to generate more of a push in the run game this fall.
