Illegal off-road bikes seized in crackdown
Police have seized illegal bikes as part of ongoing efforts to tackle dangerous driving in West Yorkshire. Officers from the Kirklees Nuisance Anti-Social Vehicle Team were joined by the roads policing unit from Bradford and Wakefield to patrol the Kirklees area. Since last Thursday, they have confiscated three off-road bikes and a car that was being used "in a manner which would cause alarm and distress", police said. Eight cars and a van were also stopped for motoring offences, including using a phone while driving. Since the dedicated team was formed in June 2024, they have seized more than 150 bikes and have carried out more than 2,100 prosecutions. West Yorkshire Police said these operations were part of a wider plan to improve road safety. The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) in Batley and Spen and Dewsbury have patrolled surrounding areas after residents shared concerns about unsafe driving. Insp Charlotte Nicholls of the Batley and Spen NPT said: "Those who think it is somehow OK to drive or ride in an illegal and unsafe manner should know that we won't tolerate it and neither will residents living in the areas they offend in."
